Sometimes, things don't turn out perfect like you wanted.
Sometimes, you make mistakes.
And when those mistakes cause you to turn in on yourself...

Sometimes, you need to find your family.

Huh. Nice.

oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy :pinkiehappy:

Neat! Can't wait to see where this goes

That Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks in New York... I'd mention the taxis, but come on, do you really think being on the sidewalk would save anyone?

Sadly, the internet is painfully fickle. You can be on top of the world one second, and the next, your house is burning down. Such is the way of things when people's attention span is so short.

Lets see where this leads our little reforming narcissist.

Yup. That's a thing.

I wasn't sure at the time if that blog was just being cheeky or not, but that appears to be a resounding not, alright. :o

Juniper has to be in here somewhere, but I'm digging the solo introspection so far. An extended run around inside the head of a character obsessed with appearances feels like the right way to flesh her out.

Poor Impact, brought low by its own success like Comic Sans before it

She may not have been "perfect" as a person—who was?

Sensing some recurring themes between these two stories.

Interesting start. Love the style of hashtags in this story

Ri2

Ugggggh, not HER.

This promises to be quite the experience. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it, especially given Juniper's similar state of fragile confidence.

And we finally get a first glimpse of one of the tagged characters, four chapters in. >_>

>peach gloss: on
Makeup's gotta be insane in EQG.

I'm really curious what these two have for history and what they have to say to each other. Beyond comparing notes on composition and film technique.

I really like your take on Vignette and how she's changed.

some terrible, terrible subhumans were truly dedicated.

How to describe the Internet in seven words.

In any case, an unexpected but entirely believable connection. Looking forward to seeing what Vignette's like when she's not hiding behind a mask of perfect shot choreography and metric manipulation... assuming she remembers how to put the thing down.

Cousin? Cousin?! Gaia's rocky mountains! Throwing us a serious curve-ball there Bookish. I approve.

Cousin! Intriguing! I mean they are the same color.

Fluttershy is PROBABLY not related to them. Right? Probably? Zephyr Breeze adding to the family's odd concentration of reformable rascals?

And this seems like fertile ground for a collaborative project!

where the rain could do its job and be soothing and water the world's plants—and probably also a certain girlfriend, she thought with a chuckle

"For the last time, Juni, I'm not a dryad."
"I have yet to see conclusive evidence of that."

She grinned, pushing her violet glasses more securely atop the bridge of her nose. "There's no project Juniper Montage can't conquer."

I'm imagining the full ominous anime lens reflection, and you can't stop me.

"Honestly, it's times like this I wish we had our own, separate building instead of a wedged one fused to a city block." Her voice lilted with the air of a daydream. "I would design it to look exactly like a carousel."

When she first saw her pony counterpart's home, the resulting squee shattered glass at twenty paces.

Ah. A family relationship would explain Vignette's abandoned connections in more traditional media. Indeed, Canter Zoom could be her father... which means if she thinks she can get reconnect with him through Juniper, she's in for a bad time. Still, this opens up a lot of fascinating potential directions. Looking forward to seeing which one you take.

Ah, the age old question of what the suits see, and what the public sees. I've got friends in the film industry, and its a pretty scary place. Even on the scale of what most people are aware of.

Long ago, before the era of hashtags...[/akuvoice]

It's easy to overlook how Vignette really does have the mind of a brilliant marketer. Goodness knows I have. The key is making sure she's focused on promoting something worth consuming and not just the positive feedback loop. Hopefully her cousin will help her learn that lesson.

And, of course, there's the more immediate lesson of "the public will get sick of the same old thing given enough repetition."

Can I please get a timeline for the stories in this universe?

D'aww, tiny Juniper. :raritystarry:

Damn straight, I don't. At least, not anymore.

Hmm. Makes me wonder what his iMDB page is like...

Wonderful to see Vignette at her height... though it does raise questions about her fall...

But the military invasion subplot was the only reason I was watching these movies! Guess I'll just rewatch Saving Private Montage again.

"Anything for a fan. But I'm afraid today's adventure is just being a gofer."

"Okay." Juniper shrugged. "But you, uh, don't really have the teeth for that. Yours are, like, perfect."

If you make tiny Junie any more adorably sweet I'm gonna think she's actually related to Pinkie.

"'Vignette Valencia: afraid of nowhere, styling everywhere!'"

Equestrialand is a cool guy. Eh shoots videos and doesn't afraid of anywhere.

In any case, my goodness but this is adorable. Especially since Vignette was one of the few tethers Juniper had to something resembling the real world at the time. But you can't let that warm, fuzzy feeling of fan appreciation go to your head.

Little June is just so innocent and sweet. Sad to see the film industry do to her what it does to so many and turn her bitter, until a certain set of girls helped her see there was a better way.

The same could be said of Vignette. Though in her case, some of the blame rests in her sitting in an online echo chamber of her own making.

Happy reunion between the cousins. Glad Val has June to help her through her tough times.

i still don't evin know who the hell vignette is or where shes from than again it took me a few years to find out what the whole sunset and anonymous thing was

like is she from the comics or something i know some exist but i don't care for comics

Vignette was the antagonist of Rollercoaster of Friendship, the seventh Equestria Girls special. It's actually on Netflix by now if you want to watch it without any fuss.

9790124
she's from the EqG special "Rollercoaster of Friendship"

I'm eagerly awaiting the conversation where they both realize that they've dealt with and been helped by the Humane Seven

9790172
wait a second they made for specials since when i mean for Christ sake i cant keep up with them all hell i cant evin watch the last session of the show cause i watch reactors and all of them have copywriter claims on session 9 mind you when that shit never happened on that scale before

9790190
This should help at least a little.

And yeah, keeping track of the million and one things that got made after Legend of Everfree is a gargantuan task. I'm convinced it's a huge reason why people just write/read Sunset Shimmer all day these days instead of branching out. They don't know the branches exist. :rainbowlaugh:

But we die-hards fight on through the media maze! :rainbowdetermined2:

9790211
That's why, partway into season 1 of the Digital Shorts, I pretty much stopped caring about everything but the music videos and the future specials.

That, and the non-music video shorts just didn't have enough substance to them.

There's definitely going to be some awkwardness on both sides, magic-related and otherwise, but for now, they can just enjoy the warm fuzzies of the reunion.

What a happy reunion. Look forward to more. Especially when they realise that they've both dabbled with Equestrian Magic

im Sure social media influencers are all just sociopaths who pretend to have friends

Vingette is the kind of person that profits off of tragedies with the whole instagram mentality of “each like is a prayer for X” and will have a complete non-reaction to one of her fans commiting suicide

I will NEVER sympathize with her ilk

"And that's also what I mean. You know what happened to PostCrush when they decided to go on hiatus?"

That's the best part about doing prequels and interquels: you get to throw in oblique references to stuff the audience will remember that hasn't happened yet in-universe. (Also stories set in the real-world past, on the same basis)

Interesting. Look forward to seeing how much more have things changed for them.

Hmm, I'm not sure where Val is taking this, but I'm intrigued. It feels like she's still in "must be in limelight" mode, even though I thought she was trying to just hang out with June.
