Every Day is a Brand New Chapter in our Lives.

E

Rainbow couldn't be any happier with the last few months - her newfound relationship with a certain yellow pegasus has soared to fantastic heights. The pair of pegasi are deeply in love, spending considerable amounts of time together while basking in each others' company; everything is perfect.

Well... according to everyone except for Rainbow's younger adopted sister.

Seeming to despise the newcomer interrupting their once solely sisterly dynamic, Scootaloo hasn't been afraid of voicing her displeasure; Meanwhile, Rainbow wants nothing more than to see two of the most important ponies in her life get along.

However one fateful day, an unexpected Wonderbolt Emergency forces Rainbow to leave Scootaloo in the care of Fluttershy - surely this will work out, right?

Can these pegasi ever be a family of 3? And what exactly is Scootaloo hiding to prevent herself from bonding with Fluttershy?

B.) People hate "Flutterdash" and "Scootadopt" now apparently... (?)

you just earned a like from me

That was a really nice story! I love family-based stories like these, and I think you did a nice job capturing the essence of a one-sided relationship. Was the relationship between Wind Sprint and Quibble Pants an inspiration for this?

Yes, it actually kind of was. Good eye.

This concept has so much potential would work so, so much better if it was set earlier, like some time after Sleepless in Ponyville or even mid-S1.
But these frequent reminders of The Last Crusade and the late season personalities just ruin it for me :fluttershyouch:

Yeah, honestly, I wasn't even originally planning to mention "The Last Crusade", but even with an AU tag, I was worried about the flood of "Um, Scootaloo actually has confirmed parents" comments.

I'm not sure what you necessarily mean by 'late season personalities' (I'm genuinely curious what you meant by that), I actually really didn't like that episode for the portrayal of Scootaloo's parents. They love their kid... so they don't pay attention to their child until they want to rip her apart from the friends and family who are actually there for her. (Logic!) The only part I liked about the episode was the "CMC Appreciation Day" tribute - that was actually really nice!

But yeah, perhaps I should've consider an AU episode extension (like with "Sleepless in Ponyville" or "Flight to the Finish") - heck, maybe that explains the mixed reactions this story is receiving. Oh well, you live and you learn. I just hope the characters themselves were alright.

I'm thinking the inclusion of the late-season show elements is a reason for some of the mixed reception. I don't like most late-season stuff either, but I'm willing to look past the mistakes of the show if I think an author can make a decent story out of it. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about feeling the need to make your story align with show canon, especially if you don't like the show canon in the first place. It restricts the storytelling potential and turns away those who also didn't like it.

As for the personalities, I'm going to assume they were referring to Fluttershy's angry speech, which does feel a bit over the top.

i'd say it's the flutterdash
it's a garbage ship
also if it's romance, tag it as such ffs

I had a lot of fun reading this!

Cute scootadopt. I miss those stories. Not as common these days.

10424454

There's a little romance, but that's not really the focus. The focus is meant to be on the inclusion of new members/expanding your family and even a little bit of self-worth and love. Romance is a very, very minor detail in the grand scheme of things here.

10424441

Yeah, you may be right about that.

I don't know why but I've always liked writing a more assertive Fluttershy. Not necessarily mean or unkind, but one who can stand up for herself/speak her mind in the moment while being a cute bundle of fluff afterwards.

10424385
I can't tell you if that is the reason for others. I personally always really appreciate S1-2 AUs (didn't know you have some, I'll check them out soon:twilightsmile:), thankfully they aren't too rare on this site in general.
By "late season personalities" I didn't mean Scoot's parents, that episode is too awful to even analyze, I meant the characters directly involved in this story. The best example is Spitfire, she is portrayed just like later seasons of the show do it, as an unlikable drill sergeant, not as the calmer, more professional lead pony she used to be. Hope that makes it a bit more clear.

I dont see it anywhere, did you credit the artist for the pic? I really want to know please. Also liked for the simple fact I hate it when ppl dislike stuff like this

You know what, I forgot to put in it and now I can't find the original image again (only mine appears on a Google search). I'm going to keep trying to find it though because that is an amazing pic.

This was so cute

I think I found the image.

It's past part of a collection, but the original poster is in the description, if I understand how Pinterest works

Thank you! You’re a hero! 😊

10424007
Well then those people are loco in the coco, this was full of fluff.

Good Flutterdash (this is rare nowadays...)
Good Scootadopt ... another plus.
All up.... a nice family based story dealing with some deep inner feels and it was engaging to read.
I miss seeing new stories like this. Thanks for sharing it.

Man this was so well done. Felt natural and I was surprised since I don't usually see Fluttershy get mad but its understandable with how Scootaloo tricked her. Yeah can't see a bad scene in here so its a definitely a favorite and like from me cause this is rare nowadays to see a Flutterdash fic- especially one that deals with Scootaloo so well.

Scootaloo deserves all the love and respect. :scootangel:

10424007

Well, I guess this comment didn't age well. As soon as I commented that, I've received a ton of likes and comments telling me how much people love this fic! Honestly, I wasn't expecting this nor was I trying to be needy in getting positive responses, but it really does mean a lot to me to hear people say they've enjoyed this.

Thank you so much everyone! You made my day!

This was a very well written story in my humble opinion.

The character portrayals were very well done and I do like how you've kept the fact that at her core Fluttershy's personality is the same, but showing how being with someone like Rainbow Dash can bring out other aspects of her that she normally keeps hidden. Even the hint that in places that Fluttershy has changed Rainbow to be a little more on the understanding side of things.

The portrayal of Scootaloo in this one I think is perfect, brash, doesn't think things through properly, and definitely stubborn.

I will admit myself the inclusion of Scootaloo's aunts threw me, but that's in part because I haven't yet seen the episodes that introduce them - I've only seen to the end of Season 5 and to be honest... I'm a little frustrated I haven't been able to see the rest yet.

The story's pacing was perfectly executed with building the tension and explosion perfectly, yet instead of going the route most people (Myself included) Would have gone of them having a full out shouting and screaming until Scoots shouts about Stealing Rainbow Dash

The conclusion I admit left me with a small happy smile, a brilliant one shot.

That was beautiful, like seriously it was.

Easily one of the best Scootadopt fics on this site.

I missed these sort of stories (they were easier to find back in the early days of the fandom). Nice work! Clearly I need to look through your other stories.

Good work, feels right out of the show.

Overall, very good. The only things I'd change would be an acknowledgment that Fluttershy has known Rainbow Dash since they were fillies right at the beginning of the confrontation. That line "..but I was fine with it just being me and Rainbow before you showed up!" needs an immediate response. Fluttershy was a part of Dash's life long before they started dating and Scootaloo really needed a reality check at this point. Scootaloo sees Fluttershy as the one trying to cut her out of her friendship with Dash when it's Scootaloo trying to break up a friendship that has lasted since they were fillies. It really makes Scootaloo look like a selfish fan-filly.

This was some really good stuff. Great job on the excellent story, and I look forward to many more.

This touches upon a very real subject and does so quite well in my opinion. Bravo!

My first FlutterDash story(more or less) joins my library!

Though, I’m among the crowd that has nothing against how Scoots situation was handled in canon. I’m just not... nit-picky like that I guess.

But I’ve nothing against tweaking when one is aware of the full context of something.

Now, I want to find more FlutterDash to read!

Sooooo… who’s going to tell Rainbow why Scoot can’t do Hide & Seek anymore?
Also, yes you definitely deserve a raise!
