This story is a sequel to Equestria Girls: Rage and Fear

Now that Starlight Glimmer has returned to Equestria, that leaves Canterlot City without a protector. But after some deliberation Twilight and Sunset have chosen Trixie to take up the mantle of the Mare-Do-Well. At first Trixie is a fish out of water in the role of a hero, but slowly starts to become a natural. However Trixie soon gets overconfident from all the praise and fame she reserves as Mare-Do-Well. Trixie must learn the hard way that its the person not the suit that makes the heroes

Excellent job on the first start of this latest story in your series. Have to definitely respect the work that went into the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Yeah, Canterlot City has LOTS of super-heroes these days, but most of them are, by necessity, so focused on natural disasters, giant monsters, super-powered criminals and alien invaders that they need somebody to focus on dealing with the small-time criminals and generally looking out for the little guy. So, yeah, I could see where they might need a new Mare Do Well after Starlight went back to Equestria. And, yeah, Trixie as the Mare Do Well would pretty much be a full-on Darkwing Duck Expy. Of course, we're going to wonder who are going to end up her Launchpad and Gosalyn later on, but that's for later.

Trixie/Mare Do Well: (appearing in blue smoke) I AM THE TERROR THAT GALLOPS IN THE NIGHT! I AM THE ANNOYINGLY PERSISTENT TELEMARKETER THAT CALLS YOU AT THREE IN THE MORNING! I am - (as a few criminals fire bullets into the smoke) SO glad that this costume is bulletproof. Even though that hurt like the blazes. (to the criminals) Anyway, you larcenous lowlifes, surrender or face the fury of the Mare Do Well!

Small time criminal: (sarcastically) Oh, we are SO scared of a teenage girl trying to play Batman. I know Batman. I once ratted out a counterfeiter to Batman and YOU aren't any Batman.

Trixie/Mare Do Well: Very well. Don't say I didn't warn you, small-time scum. (to herself) Okay, I know this belt has some knockout gas in here somewhere. (pulls out a cartridge and tosses it, only for the criminals to start itching up a storm) Okay, that was itching powder, but it still did the trick. (to the civilians she just helped) Scratch one set of mangy muggers. (to herself) Now to find something to hold them until the police arrive (reaches into her utility belt again and this time pulls out a strong net) Perfect. (uses the net to ensnare the criminals while they are still itching)

Civilian: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Trixie/Mare Do Well: You are quite welcome, solid citizen. Let this be a sign to all those who lurk in the shadows and prey upon the innocent. Let terror pierce their blackened hearts, for though they may flee to the ends of the Earth; though they may fight with all their might; no evildoer shall escape or defeat THE MARE DO WELL! (tosses another smoke bomb and a rope to climb and swing away)

Sorry about that. Got a bit carried away.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to more of this.

Again thanks for the comment, the ideas and the support:twilightsmile:
I really like the Darkwing Duck ideas:raritywink:

10353048
You are extremely welcome. I'm glad you like those ideas.

10353048
And, oddly enough, I HAVE just thought of another few ideas for the MUCH later chapters:

Sunset: I have to admit, so far, you ARE doing a great job, Trixie, but -

Trixie: But what, Shimmer? I thought we had an understanding. You leave the small-time criminals and mobsters to ME, *I* leave the giant monsters, natural disasters and alien invaders to you and your super-powered girl scout troop.

Sunset: I was going to say, you should be very careful about not letting the positive attention go to your head and cause you to forget about the innocent people you're supposed to be protecting. Unfortunately, it seems at least half of that is too late.

Trixie: What are you talking about? There's not a street punk in this city that isn't afraid of the Mare Do Well. The small timers that think that they can slip through the cracks because you have to stay focused on the fate-of-the-world tier bad guys are definitely thinking more than twice, which is a VERY good thing. And all those innocent people are loving it too.

*****************************

And, the first actually super-powered criminal Trixie could fight as the Mare Do Well could be Maxwell Dillon aka Electro (the villain that INSPIRED Megavolt).

****************************

The MAIN villain (the one that reminds Trixie just how serious being a super-hero actually is) could be the Batman Who Laughs (he's from another universe AND combines the most dangerous aspects of the actual Batman AND the Joker, so he would be an excellent analogue to Negaduck). Either that or Wilson Fisk/the Kingpin (who would be a great analogue to Taurus Bulba).

And, again, I let my thoughts run away with me.

10353370
thanks for the ideas, they are much appreciated:twilightsmile::raritywink:

10354098
You're quite welcome, again.

Thanks very much for getting the next chapter up And for liking one of my ideas enough to use something strongly based on it.

Both are really appreciated.

As usual, wonderful work on the exchanges, characterization, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Absolutely loved how Trixie reacted to the note that came with the suit. And the little Shout Out to the 1989 Batman movie (with the "Never leave home without it" line from the mugger). And, yeah, Trixie did a pretty good job against those muggers once she got some semblance of the hang of things.

Of course, I have to wonder how she is going to react if she ever met the human world's Starlight (she's definitely out there even though she never appeared in the series). She might even end up becoming a mix of (a more competent) Launchpad and Gosalyn (albeit a sister figure instead of a daughter). With, of course, the human world's Sunburst in the role of Honker (a teenage human Sunburst would definitely have the right mix of brains, shyness and connection to Starlight for the role).

But, anyway, very certainly looking forward to more of this.

You are extremely welcome, once again.

Excellent job on the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. And thanks again for liking another one of my ideas enough to use something based on it. Plus, the little nod to "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (the mention of the suit's "Training Wheels Protocol") was a good one too. And, yeah, I can see where Twilight and Sunset might be getting worried right now considering how the hero stuff is going to Trixie's head.

Microchips: Mixed news, Trix. It seems this costume has a lot more built-in gadgets beyond just the wrist grappling hooks, utility belt, bulletproof material and even the recently discovered visual and audio enhancement equipment. There is stuff in here that can grant limited flight, enhanced strength and speed, telekinesis, telepathy and teleportation.

Trixie: That sounds GREAT. But you said "Mixed" news. That sounds like GREAT news.

Microchips: The more advanced stuff is designed to unlock gradually as you get more experienced. Kind of a "Training Wheels Protocol" if you will.

Trixie: Training wheels? It HAS to be Sunset and Twilight. I KNEW they were jealous, but I didn't think they would sink THAT low.

Microchips: Relax. You are talking to the only kid in Canterlot High who is EVEN SMARTER than Twilight. I can unlock the Protocols early and give you access to ALL of the suit's abilities.

Mare-Do-Well: Fear not, madam. The Mare-Do-Well has you, now. (takes a look) Whoa. Starlight Glimmer?

(Human) Starlight: You know me?

Mare-Do-Well: Well, I knew a version of you. Long story, involves alternate universes and other basic super-hero stuff.

(Human) Starlight: Fair enough. But, yeah, all right! The Mare-Do-Well! I'm a huge fan.

Mare-Do-Well: Look, I'll give you an autograph AFTER I'm done dealing with your would-be assailants.

(Human) Starlight: That was some great stuff. Thanks for the rescue.

Mare-Do-Well: You're quite welcome. Now, for that autograph I promised you. (gives Starlight an autographed photo)

(Human) Starlight: And thank you for that too. But, I was thinking that, seeing you in action, well, makes me see that super-heroing can be quite dangerous. Maybe you could use a sidekick out there. At least an extra set of eyes and ears.

Mare-Do-Well: I appreciate the thought, really. But I knew this job was dangerous when I took it. Besides, talk show hosts and singing cowboys have sidekicks. I don't want anybody else in harm's way because of me if I can help it.

(Human) Starlight: All right, but just in case you change your mind, I DO have some skills that can be quite useful to you.

Sunset: Look, we gave you a fair chance, but this isn't some street punk, C-list costumed criminal or even super-powered hired gun. This is the big leagues.

Sci-Twi: So, for your own safety, we are taking back the suit and handling this ourselves.

Trixie: What? You're taking the suit? Without that suit -

Sunset: If you need the suit to be a hero, then that's even more reason to take it away.

Trixie: Sounds kind of hypocritical coming from a gal who has a magic geode and a power ring.

Sci-Twi: Perhaps, but the difference is that WE are taking this seriously.

And, for the VERY end, Trixie can get some pointers from Booster Gold (who also started out not taking the hero stuff seriously and showing off a little too much before he got a pretty big wake-up call).

And, sorry, I got a little too caught up in my thoughts, again.

At any rate, very definitely looking forward to more of this.

I'm glad you like the chapter:twilightsmile: and thank you for the continued support and ideas:raritywink:

You are extremely welcome. And here are another couple of possible ideas:

Human Sunburst could be a paid intern for Stark Industries and got kidnapped when the main villains' underlings were stealing a super-weapon from that company's experimental laboratories.

Trixie: Perhaps this costumed clown can still BE a hero. (puts on a homemade version of the Mare-Do-Well suit)

(Human) Starlight: Now that's the spirit. We're coming, Sunburst.

Mare-Do-Well: WE?

(Human) Starlight: Well, you are definitely going to need a sidekick NOW. Besides, they kidnapped Sunburst. No way I'm staying out of this.

Mare-Do-Well: Fair enough. But you better find a costume too. If the bad guys recognize you after we capture them and save Sunburst, they might try to avenge themselves by going after your family and friends. AND we need a way to reach them fast.

(Human) Starlight: Well, I DO have a modified motorcycle Sunburst built for me before he was captured. It's DOUBLE-turbo-charged AND has a good range of built-in gadgets. That can be our personal ride until we have time to find something better. As for a disguise, perhaps an old-timey aviator's uniform and a mask will suffice again until we have time to find something better.

Mare-Do-Well: Okay. Now we need to make an entrance in this big baddy's base.

(Human) Starlight: This motorcycle has a rocket launcher AND a laser cannon built into it, so an entry hole won't be a problem. But, (pulls out two set of X-ray binoculars and two earpieces) This way, we can continue to be each other's extra set of eyes and ears in there. This IS going to be dangerous after all.

Mare-Do-Well: (takes one set of X-ray binoculars and one of the earpieces) Point taken. But LET'S GET DANGEROUS! (thinking for a bit) Your friend Sunburst is definitely great with the gadgets, isn't he?

(Human) Starlight: (as she and the Mare-Do-Well get ready to blast an entry hole and get inside) Well, yeah. He was a paid intern for Stark Industries for a pretty good reason after all.

Once more, a really good job on the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. So, now Trixie has found out about the locks on some of her suit's abilities and has gotten into a fight with an ACTUAL super-villain. And, she managed to take down the goons but Otto just forced her choose between chasing him and helping the innocent. Of course, we will see her choice next chapter.

VERY definitely looking forward to more of this.

You are extremely welcome.

Sunset: Did you stop to ask WHY somebody like Octavius would be trying to rob a jewelry store when he usually plays for higher stakes?

Trixie: Well, no. I just figured that- well, trying to take over the world IS expensive so maybe he was just trying to get the fence money to finance a future scheme. Or he needs the gems to power some sort of super-laser.

Twilight: Well, I have to at least give you credit for thinking of the latter possibility, as that is the much more likely of the two.

Trixie: Yeah, well, there is a good reason the original Mare-Do-Well trusted me with her mantle, after all.

Sunset: Well, this has gotten too big for you to handle this alone and we've been at this a few months longer than you have.

Trixie: And let you swoop in and steal the glory? I don't think so! Mark my words, I'll track down and subdue that slippery sinister scientist so fast, you won't have time to be sorry you doubted me!

REALLY good job on this latest chapter. Greatly enjoyed the work that went into the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. And thanks again for liking one of my ideas enough to use something based on it, albeit modified to make more sense and make it even more of a "Spider-Man: Homecoming" reference. Yeah, I really liked Micro being smart enough to get an honest answer out of Trixie and then Trixie charming Micro into disabling the Training Wheels Protocol. And, yeah, Otto is calling for more back-up. We'll see what other help the Sportsmaster will bring in soon and also see what Octavius needs those supplies he is stealing for.

Definitely looking forward to more of this.

As aways thank you for your continued support, comments and ideas:twilightsmile::raritywink:

You are extremely welcome.

REALLY good job on the latest chapter. Again, the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all quite well done in all the right areas. Yeah, it was an excellent touch having a digital version of Sunburst as the on-line voice/advisor after the "Training Wheels Protocols" have been removed (considering he is Starlight's OTHER best friend). And, yeah, the bit with the "confetti grenade" was a good way to show that, maybe having the protocols disabled wasn't such a hot idea, though the "M-Tracer" was a great touch too. Of course, Sportsmaster and the other villains coming in for added back-up was another really good touch (I guess he didn't go with Electro, Hydro-Man, Poison Ivy, the Toyman and the Joker because the former two would know him only too well and the latter three would be too unpredictable [the Joker especially]).

Human Starlight: So, home-made costume with none of the gadgets besides the swinglines and smoke bombs?

Trixie: Yeah. Shimmer and Sparkle might have had a point about how I was a bit too dependent on the suit and being overly reckless, but they don't know enough about what Octavius is planning to have any chance of stopping him - I do.

Human Starlight: So, going to try to be a hero anyway, huh? Sounds kind of dangerous.

Trixie (now fully in the home-made Mare-Do-Well costume). Yeah? Well, LET'S GET DANGEROUS!

Human Starlight: Well, you're DEFINITELY going to need a sidekick, now. If for no other reason than to act as an extra set of eyes and ears.

Sorry about that. Got carried away.

But anyway, definitely going to be looking forward to more of this.

You are extremely welcome once again.

Sorry I took a while to get around to responding to this. My computer had a virus and it took more than a week to fix it. Anyway, very good job on this latest chapter. Again, the work on the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Loved the explanation for the Nth Metal, plus how "Sunburst" tried to suggest calling for back-up (and ultimately did so anyway despite Trixie's protests she could handle this herself) against Octavius and his hired help as well as use of the suit's gadgets against the assorted super-villains AND in keeping the building up long enough for her to get all the defeated criminals to safety. And, yeah, I have a feeling that voice at the end of the chapter was either Sunset or Twilight (either one of whom would have every reason to be upset right now).

Anyway, definitely looking forward to more of this.

And Happy Thanksgiving.

REALLY good job on this latest chapter. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up were all quite well done in all the right places. Yeah, great cameo by Blue Jay as he explained the operation Trixie messed up. And at least Twi and Sunset were considerate enough to provide Trixie with some clothes until she could get home, even if it was one of Twi's old Crystal Prep uniform. And, yeah, Trixie making the realization she did during Cheerilee's class was also great and, at least she has a plan AND help now.

Definitely going to be looking forward to more of this.

Again, you're quite welcome.

Again, really good job on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Yeah, I appreciate how the girls are sticking together despite Trixie admitting she is making this up as she goes along (yeah, as a showgirl, it makes sense that she would be a bit too fond of the Indy Ploy) and now the girls know he is planning to bond with the Nth Metal and become immortal and indestructible. Okay, this requires some pretty quick action. As long as he isn't bonded to the Nth metal yet, Cassie and Steph are definitely good enough fighters to handle Otto (who, beyond his mechanical arms, is just a comparatively average [though extremely intelligent] man with very little combat training) , but Molten Man (who has Super-Strength, Super-Toughness AND can fire heat blasts) is going to require brains to handle, not brawn (even Jubliee, the only one of the four girls who has a super-power, is no match for Mark head on). I suppose it IS fortunate that two of these girls HAVE had training from Batman, so they are good at figuring out ways to outwit super-powered opponents on the fly AND it IS possible they could have weapons that can exploit his weaknesses.

But, anyway, very definitely looking forward to more of this.

Thank you very much:twilightsmile: and a Happy Holidays to you as well:raritywink:

Excellent job on this latest chapter. Greatly enjoyed the work that went into the action, exchanges, characterizations and epilogue set-up in all the right places. Definitely loved how well the girls did against the Molten Man and Otto. And, yeah, the karma of Otto's hirelings getting in some payback was quite delicious. Also really liked Spoiler's reassuring Trixie that the steel mill was scheduled for demolition anyway.

REALLY looking forward to the epilogue.

Thank you for comment and the support:raritywink: and happy 2021:twilightsmile:

You're quite welcome and same to you in that order. :-D

Excellent job on the exchanges, characterizations, general wrap-up and future adventure set-up in all the right places. Particularly liked the little nod to the Nightmare Knights comic book mini-series in the new team name (as well as the two new members of the team mentioned) as well as Trixie getting the Mare-Do-Well suit back. And, yeah, the additional set-up for the upcoming Starro adventure makes a lot of sense.

VERY definitely looking forward to the next adventure.
