Ponyville was supposed to be Ditzy’s fresh start, a chance to leave the past behind and be her own mare. So what if that fresh start includes sleeping in her second cousin’s spare bedroom? So what if she’s working double shifts at the Hay Burger? She’s got a plan, a plan that starts with the expensive items that mysteriously appear on the second-hoof store’s shelves on a very special day of the month.

A season one story.

I think for Derpy "barely any accidents" is relative.

"My business burned down!"

"I'm sorry."

"Twice!"

"I said I was sorry.

For the record, this is the bit that got me thanked in the story description. I haven't read any of the rest, and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

Interesting. A cornucopia isn't just a symbol of wealth: it's also a symbol of nourishment and spiritual, not material, wealth. Charm may be misinterpreting her own mark.

Interesting. I think I'm gonna like where this is going.

Looks like she needs the Cutie Mark Crusaders. :scootangel:

Oh. Oh. Well, that paints matters in a stark new light. Poor thing. Though this does tie back to Charm's question last chapter. Ditzy's trying to escape her cutie mark just as much.

Glass eye after an accident, huh? Well, that would make a lot of sense.

I have a hard time believing I’m the first one to stumble upon that explanation, but who knows?

Yeah, that's the thing. Burning bridges may keep you warm for a while, but you'll be left with ashes in time. Charm may be freeing herself and her possessions, but she doesn't have anyone to enjoy that freedom with. We'll see what she does from here.

It's been a while since I've last encountered the 'rich person forsakes their material wealth to find meaning' archetype. I can't wait for her to meet Ditzy.

I think the commonly accepted explanation is that she has strabismus. To be honest, I've seen so many stories with that as the thing that I forgot it wasn't official. Kind of like human-loving Lyra.

Someone in a previous comment made a note about the cornucopia being symbolic in that way, too. Good on them and good on Ditzy. :derpytongue2:

Cutie marks are rarely so simple that they contain a single meaning. Oh, a pony may associate theirs with whatever activity or mindset made it manifest, but the sum totality of a person cannot be expressed in a single layer. That's just not how people work.

Also, Best Pony casually and unthinkingly doing Best Pony things is always great.

There are two lives: The life you live before you meet Best Pony, and the life you live after. Magnificent showcase of what good a chance encounter can do. Thank you for it.

Very nice. :)
Thank you for writing!

Well that is one of the more common causes of lazy eye.

Not sure how I feel about 'Derpy' as an insult here.

Honestly kinda expected Charm to float Ditzy a loan. But this works too.

Not completely sure who Charm considered true peers. Id hope Ditzy.

Reading every Depth in Innocence Contest entry: Story 4: A Charmed Life by BlazzingInferno

Huh. Another story with duality and parallels. Almost feels like a theme at this point. A look at the lives of two mares and how chance happenings helped them help each other. Both characters have depth despite the short word count, (though it is in the name of the contest, so I shouldn't be surprised) and the idea of Ditzy having having a glass eye is something I'm surprised I don't think I've seen before. The story has a very grounded, small scale feel, which isn't a bad thing in the slightest. Makes me feel like (sans the talk of cutie marks) this could happen in the real world. I quite liked it, even if it's not the kind of fic I usually read.

Oh, damn. They say a character should always want something, and that is a heck of thing to want. :D

She leaned in and whispered in his ear. “I was made for customer service.”

YOU WERE MADE FOR LOVIN' MEEEE

This was so heartwarming. :D
