Tangerine Blast

(He/They) Sometimes you just want to hear your favorite story told a little different

T

Twilight Sparkle's clone does not want to work for Chrysalis. Fortunately, she's bucking brilliant and has a plan to get her and her sisters out from the Changeling's oppressive rule.

Unfortunately, her plan goes sideways quickly and now she has to herd five annoying clones while traversing the social nightmare of Pony society.

((This is a rewrite of the episode The Mean Six so that the clones all stay alive. It goes beyond the episode and into how the lives of everypony would be affected by this change. Because gosh darn it I like them too much for them to stay dead.))

I love the episode as is, but this seems like an intriguing idea.

Oh yeah, me too. It's actually one of my favorite episodes. I just liked it so much I wanted more!

Ooh, more, please! I like how this is going!

One thing can change the whole outcome. Interesting how Meanshy showed deep down she is like her original, are the others as well?

Having the clones be at least somewhat grateful to Chryssie and/or actually cooperate with her would be a nice premise as well.. no lucks with that so far though.

9867307
Because very few seem to want that. Or wanted that from the episode. To me anyway.

*sighs*

Got used to my preferred premises almost never being written, over 15 years of reading fanfiction and 25 years of reading books. Just a bit sad about this particular one, with all its all its possibilities... As long as they don't include yet another rushed OOC reformation that ppl write so often these days.

9867691
To be fair to fanfiction, rushed OOC reformations are canon.

If only Hasbro made them shine out more.

Well, well, well... what do we have here?

I find it interesting. Perhaps Chrysalis will reminisce of her past since the show isn't helpful

9867778
To a degree, yes, but fanfiction does not have all the limitations of the show format, so it's more about author's skill and wish-fulfillment VS story flow dynamic. After all if author wants certain things to happen - they will, no matter how inconsistent or illogical they might seem or be.

Also, It's less of OOC on canon, but more of the loosely defined personalities. Unlike Mane 6 vast majority of characters aren't defined that much, especially in the earlier seasons. And when we don't really get THAT much info about certain character or an earlier version of them is used it's one thing. But when someone established suddenly behaves completely differently for no apparent reason (or just for a badly written one) - that's a whole different thing.

If you want something done, make it yourself.

Keh, it's about time and priorities. Shorter stories never really appealed to me, and writing a dozen of works at the same will just lead to them all going nowhere. And that without my *meh* irl job and mediocre (at best) writing skills. Should I be actually able to rewrite my current Sunset story and have it reach well into the Equestria arc by the end oof the year - that would be enough to satisfied with atm.

usually in most fantastic works where clones of the main characters appear in some way at the end they are always killed in some way without even giving them a chance to prove themselves. Cruel and sad statistics

This is absolutely fascinating and I can so easily see this happening. How does this not have more views and likes and favorites? It's such a wonderfully unique and interesting take on that episode and I'm genuinely thrilled to see it, not to mention I can't wait for more! It's so well written and the characterization is spot on. Any idea when the next chapter might be ready?

“You know,” she panted to the probably-unconscious Earth Pony, “I’m only doing this… because you’re an asset to me.” A branch whacked her in the face, splitting her lip. “No other reason!”

Baka.

They're imperfect duplicates, but they're not that imperfect. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this concept.

I'm aiming for about three weeks since first posted. Maybe less if I me and my editor's schedules align.

when in doubt, telepoubt.

So Twilight screamed, and kicked the ground, and said as many foul words as she knew. Then she cursed the original Twilight for not knowing enough foul words!

Best line in the chapter.

This shows a ton of promise, I'm loving it. As it's been said, the characterization so far has been great as well as the new spin on the whole situation. Hopefully this picks up more readers as it continues to update and gain ground, it really deserves to be noticed. Anyway, I'll be eagerly looking forward to the chapters to come!

In all honesty those clones had a lit if potential. Too bad Hasbro killed them off

Excellent chapter and can't blame clone Twilight for opting to get out of there.

Even by Pinkie standards, pronouncing "Thgiliwt" is impressive.

Then they would be in hot water without a paddle.

That didn't seem right. Twilight made a mental note to double-check her mind for any lasting damage.

In any case, whatever happens next should be very interesting indeed. After all, teleportation isn't an option for the other clones, and I doubt Twolight would've taken any of them with her. Looking forward to it.

“Stop stop! Please stop they’re not bad ponies!”

“I know they tried to steal from you, but they’re really sorry! They didn’t know what they were doing. Please don’t kill them!”

Pinkie was standing in front of the Tree of Harmony, a hoof resting on the trunk and the tree’s bright magic surrounding her. But unlike the harsh ribbons that had attacked the clones, this magic was soft and gentle and wrapped around Pinkie with a warm glow.

Before Twilight’s eyes, the Earth Pony seemed to grow lighter. Her nicks and bruises closed and healed, her posture became more stable as she put pressure on the side she had been favoring, and even her coat and mane seemed to smooth out and shine.

That's pretty cool that Pinkie can sort of control the tree of harmony like Twilight can, and I'm guessing the other bearers can do it as well.

I have the feeling this is going to be an amazing ride. Can't wait to read more of this. :pinkiehappy:

Is this story still being continued?

10036516
Yes it is! Super sorry for making everyone wait and worry. It's been tough finding time to write lately but I am planning on continuing as soon as possible

10036523
Awesome! I like it a lot and am excitedly waiting for the next update.

Let me guess. Pinkie Pie got on a roll?

“We surrender,” said reflection said, right before Twilight was knocked over by an excited pink missile.

Pinkie used Glomp! Twilight is KOed.

Pinkie the real princess of friendship.

Ah, glad to see this got an update. Very enjoyable use of the dark magic clone group. Had a good long laugh at the point 'Evening' turned around and realized she'd grabbed the wrong Pinkie. Also, nice subtle switch to using Evening for the Alicorn clone without explicitly stating it.

wow, I’m surprised and at the same time glad that this story is still alive.
Of the clones, my favorite Twilight. I would like to see her as a cold, insensitive character who thinks "any decision should be based on a cold calculation and not on emotions." On her misunderstanding of emotions, you can make quite a few comic situations. (why do you have eye fluid?)

“Of course!” She took a confident step forward and grinned at Chrysalis, selling the lie for all she was worth. “What do you think we’ve been doing? Waiting around for you to show up? As you can see, we’ve mastered the Elements and even captured one of the Bearers. From where I’m standing, we have all the power. Not you.”

This is an interesting scene, because is shows how the power of a lie can be used for both good and ill.

10071093

She seems to already believe that power and control is the only way to live.

Also, considering her unenviable situation, it is hard to blame her for feeling this way.

“We surrender,” said reflection said, right before Twilight was knocked over by an excited pink missile.

"Please, do whatever you want to us, just make her shut up."

Okay, okay, I kid. Pinkie diplomancy for the win! Or at least the getting the clones to the bargaining table. Whatever comes next should be very interesting indeed.

As for most interesting clone, it has to be Evening. The others are one-note and uninterested in developing beyond that note, but she rapidly grew into a compelling and complex character in her own right, struggling to define herself beyond the lessons she unwittingly learned from Chrysalis.

Looking forward to more.

Wait...'Fluttershy' is cruel. Why does she care about healing anyone?

10071461
There's actually two answers to this question. The first is that I'm interpreting the clones as less direct opposites of the Main Six and more just a twisted version of their elements. So Twilight clone still cares about her friends but cares more about what they can do for her and how she can be in charge of them than working in a team. 'Fluttershy' has a cruel kindness. The type of person that will bully you relentlessly then claim it's for your own good. To 'toughen you up' or something. She also has all of real Fluttershy's basic knowledge and that includes medical knowledge. It's really easy to be mean to someone verbally and a little rough physically than it is to see someone seriously injured, know exactly how to help them, and still want to do nothing. I'm defiantly leaning with her more towards bully and less straight up villain with them so some adjustments had to be made from what was shown in the episode.

The second reason is I just really like the Nurse-with-terrible-bedside-manners-but-actually-secretly-cares trope and thought it'd be fun to write.

Pinkie's diplomacy strategy is going I'm Baby
And then everyone else is like, oh shoot, she baby
And then they stop being evil. Works every time

Oh my god I can't describe how thrilled i was at seeing this update. First of all, Pinkie is absolutely the pony version of Naruto when it comes to stubbornly making friends out of enemies.

Second, I'm not sure I have a favorite so far, but I really loved what you did with Rarity. The most one-dimensional (to the point even the other clones wondered if she was more than that) clone by far, and yet when presented with genuine generosity from Pinkie it was like something sparked and she slowly came to life.

Finally, I absolutely love how even when Evening scoffs at Pinkie giving her a name, every time she's mentioned after that she always refers to herself as Evening in the narrative. That was a wonderful little touch. You are definitely a talented writer and have quite the knack for characterization, and I can't wait to see where you take this.

*chanting*
Up-date, up-date, up-date!

I was stoked to see this get an update. It was a great one too. Instead of being evil, it'll be funny enough and fitting for them to just be epic tier trolls. Maybe friendship school will be about learning to use those powers of messing with people in a productive manner. Don't know what you have planned exactly but it's all been great so far. I'm really liking the newly forming friendship between Evening and Pinkie as well!

I must say, I love the way you wrote these clones. I think my favourite so far is meanshy. Its nice to have a fanfic that makes better use of them then what they got in the show.

Love this new chapter, My favorite is Evening Sparkle right now with her trying to keep the other clones safe but doing it in such a bad way. She is the Ultimate Equestrian tsundere for friendship.

I think my least favorite is Raining Parade but that is just that she seems to have so little personality currently, though that might be because she seems to have rainbows laziness and self interest increased to maximum, so that may change with more development

This was a laugh a minute, keep it up!
