Celestia, though she has long sought an apprentice for herself, has never once found one she felt required her personal guidance. Disappointed, the Princess decides to go to the Canterlot Library to visit an old friend. And it is here that, for the first time, she comes upon a mare with a very noticeable love of magic.

Great job on this one-shot. Yeah, it makes sense that, in a timeline where Twilight DIDN'T hatch Spike's egg and become Celestia's personal student, she would become an assistant librarian. And, I LOVED Twi's chat with Celly. Glad to see the failure to get into the school did NOT damper her love of learning. Of course, it helps that this is open-ended enough where we can easily visualize this being ANY ONE of the alternate timelines as well as speculate whether this is BEFORE or AFTER the major problem spotted in the timeline was taken care of by the timeline's locals.

At any rate, splendid job on the exchanges, characterizations and general wrap-up/possible sequel set-up in this one-shot.

It's refreshing to see a bit of an alternate Twilight who pulled herself back up after failing, followed her passions and actually seems happy with her life. It seems pretty popular to make failed-exam-Twilight at best coast through life, at worst a bitter wash-out.

This was an interesting story of "what-if" that makes the outstanding feat of not going dark with Twilight having failed her entrance exam. I like it!

Be interesting to see how this would play out in a longer story, with Twilight moving to Ponyville to become the Librarian when the old one retires, and thus, be there to become one of the elements regardless of not having been Celestia's student.

Yeah. That might be a pretty interesting idea. Plus, she would probably be under much less stress most of time, leading to far fewer freak outs during non-"fate of the world" situations.
