Moosetasm

A partially insane Knoxville Brony who likes to write. I also edit. And Vector too. Who knew? Not I. If only I could focus on just one...

ruin as come to our familly .....

Pretty sure sacrificed is a bit strong of a description of what happens. They temporarily drain it from overuse. I never understood only using four unicorns when using more would have lessened the burdon on the others and made moving the sun and moon less taxing...

9718759
Well ponies are idiots, so...

9718759

Well it's not exactly a simple spell, the more people you involve, the more complicated it gets. 'tis a tricky thing, too few ponies means not enough power, but having too many participants risks muddying the spellwork and loosing control of the ritual.

9718891
There is little canon explanation. IDW comic and journal of the two sisters are both noncanon and can't be used as reliable sources for an explanation...

Loving the atmosphere so far :raritystarry: Looking forwards to reading more!

It’s awesome that this is going live! :pinkiehappy:

What just happen to Celestia, and who were the royal guards. they seem to been trying to help her from before. I was hoping get some answers in this one but now more confused then ever.

Well. You've driven Best Pony insane and have many more on the chopping block. I can't promise I'll see this through to the end, but you have me intrigued for now.

Oh my. The deviations from what we know keep stacking up. I suppose something as beautiful and inspiring as the Sonic Rainboom can't be allowed to exist in universe as grim as this one.

In any case, Blueblood and Fancy both know he likely won't survive this. The question is how long he'll last.

there is no such thing as ‘evil.’

Oh dear, the tempting of fate's begun already :unsuresweetie:

Thanks for all the comments so far, everypony!

I guess I should mention chapter three has a higher word count than the prologue, chapter one, and chapter two... combined. :rainbowderp:

9718753
Such maddening prose...

9718759 9718931
Umm, yup it’s permanent. From the show transcript:

Fluttershy: And every day, the unicorns helping Star Swirl would use so much magic, they lost their powers forever.

:pinkiecrazy: Forrrrrrrrrreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

9718849
Umm... well... you’re not wrong...

9718891
Why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?

9719431
Thank you much!

9720133
This is going live even if it kills us! Or me... or you... both, it’s got to be both.

9720371
Celestia didn’t listen to her dietician and decided to eat a lead salad. Alas, the guards were not faster than the muzzle velocity of a black-powder swallow.

9722218
I love writing for seen-too-much Best Pony.
Knowing your tastes and limits... I think you have a few more chapters before the nope-out happens.
9722350
Aren’t alternate universes without the Rainboom just... spectacular? :pinkiecrazy:
Unless the positive and negative furies in Blueblood are out of balance, as they are in Lo Pan; then they turn into demon and live forever.

9722395
Best way to propagate evil is to deny its existence. :rainbowderp:

You are doing a incredible job portraying the atmosphere of horror from the Darkest Dungeon.

Shining nodded, scratching absently at his foreleg. “Yeah, nothing wears you out like several life -and-death struggles all packed into one day.”

Oh, if only you knew...

By the itching of their manes, something wicked this way came. And is currently staying. Heck, it's probably bunking with Pinkie. And Ditzy may be mad, but she's still devoted to her duty.

Great horror thus far. Looking forward to seeing how long I can tough it out.

I mean, what are the chances of us getting attacked again?

Blueblood, you're building a bad habit :facehoof:

This was a nice chapter! Those mosquitos :pinkiesick: I'd been ready to complain about the pacing dragging a bit in the first three, but this covered a fair bit of ground much more quickly, which I'm totally on board with.

9723765
Thank you very much. I hope you continue to feel that way.

9723870
Mosquito bites itch. Especially when given by Mosquitos carrying the Crimson Curse. While I can’t tell you here which characters get introduced, or when, I can tell you that Best Pony gets a scene next chapter. She does it herself.

9724054
The pacing changes tempo between fast and slow. It makes the fast pieces seem to happen all the faster. I think it mimics combat planning very well; the planning and prep is slow. But then all hell breaks loose.

Either way, Ditzy’s right; this stuff will keep for months, maybe years.

They're like dwarf bread. You take one look at them and realize there are so many other things you could eat. Trees. Rocks. Your own tail. No, you'll never go hungry with muffin rations.

And so the adventure begins... for a given value of "adventure." Let's see how many explorers come back, and in what shape.

9725720
Terry Pratchett dwarven combat bread; lethal when wielded; more lethal when eaten.
It’s the first mission. I mean, what could possibly happen?

I thought i knew this game. Darkest Dungeon awesome game!

misplacing her feculence

:pinkiehappy:

One almost-death and one bout of hopelessness... Yeah, I’d say that expedition went as well as could be expected. Those courtiers are the stuff of nightmares.

I hope Blueblood burned Cynic's body. With that necromancer around, his sins are coming back to haunt him in an all too literal way.

“And I said ‘hey, ma! What’s with all the sauerkraut? And my—oh, hey! Look who’s back! Gotta go tell the town!”

I see he was only a few minutes into that particular story. Didn't even get to the part about the big fat hermaphrodite with a flock-of-seagulls manecut and only one nostril.
... Honestly, I could see that guy as a Darkest Dungeon enemy. Complete with the lucky snorkel.

The stallion’s own glowing knife had jammed itself up under his jaw and driven itself through his mouth and into his dead brain.

Ah. I suppose that's one way to prepare for sudden but inevitable revival.

I do quite like how Blueblood is suffering and twisting as much as any of his mercenaries. Time to see how much further around the bend they all go in the days to come. And how well Dash can fill the void with cider.

9727435
It is one of my favorites.

9727483
I’m particularly fond of that line, lol.
Oh, and then there’s this:
derpicdn.net/img/view/2017/2/4/1354832.png

9727623
He did. :raritywink:
Just as I suspected! Oh I hate it when I’m right!
Pretty far.
All the cider in Equestria.

Ugghh the giant Mosquitoes I remember those!

Fire and bug spray. Fire and bug spray will see one through.

Flagellant Big Mac wasn't what I would've guessed, but I think I'm into it.

9729290
I hate the Crimson Court enemies, especially when they catch you outside the court.

9729398
I never understood why there wasn’t a class that used fire.

9729486
Eeyup.

so, does the summary mean literally or does it just mean the unicorns can't do any other magic all day or longer till their magic recovers at which point they have to do it again?

Finally, the crossover we need but don't deserve, and if this chapter is any indication, you have nailed the atmosphere of DD. I look forward to this.

You know the sad thing? Had Snips and company been sent to a less* punishing dungeon to start with, Snips likely would have lived and grown from the experience. But the Courtyard is an unforgiving and brutal place and going into there... no matter how well equipped or prepared the party, someone is going to die.

Sadly, this time it happened to be Snips to pay the price.

For what it's worth, I don't see him haunting Blueblood... at the very least, not in the same way as the other ghosts that have been haunting his sleeping hours. After all, Blueblood didn't kill Snips like he did the others... and the only reason that Snips was there was because of his own choices. However, guilt for sending someone far too young to an early and brutal grave is a completely different burden to bare.

Still, I would like to see a ghostly Snips who's just softly and quietly asking Blueblood 'Could you please send a letter to my mother to tell her that I'm sorry? I thought I was ready to go out into the world and be an amazing adventurer and make it a better place but... I was wrong. Also, tell Snails that I'm sorry too...' Not blaming him for his death but... haunting him in a different painful way.

9730815
Given that this is a dark horror version of MLP, I don't think he'd change it to be *less* horrifying than the canon version, where they lost their magic forever.

9731373
I don't remember that part in canon, then again I don't watch the show. I heard it was 100 unicorns working together every day and only being able to do that and spending the rest of the day/night recovering enough magic to raise/lower the sun/moon.

9730815
9731385
In the episode Horse Play, they spell out that Starswirl helped the other unicorns raise the sun and moon each day, and that those unicorns used so much power that they lost their magic forever.

9731373
Foreverrrrrrrrrr! :pinkiecrazy:

9731059
That, is one Tartarus of a supposition to make. I’ve lost characters on novice dungeons before, all it takes sometimes is a single crit with a bleed or blight effect. But you are quite correct in your statement about the Crimson Court being an entirely different beast. First time I ever played the court, I fought my party through to the end, everyone was fine, and then... my party faced the Crocodilian? Total Party Wipe.

9731444
As I said, I don't watch the show.

9731444
Oh, I get what you mean. Sometimes shit does happen but.... let's face it, his odds would have been much better if he hadn't needed to face something like the Crocodilian. That bloody thing and the Court has claimed more adventures in my games then the other dungeons combined.

“We got so little family left, big brother,” she wept into his chest.

Dare I ask what state Apple Bloom is in? Granny Smith? Heck, given the sheer quantity of Apples in canon, the thought of the line being almost extinct is a truly chilling one.

Mind you, the Batman slap immediately before actually did a lot to raise the mood after the gruesomeness of Snips's death.

In any case, I'm still here. I want to see where you go from here, especially if Fluttershy implies what I think she does.

9732470
Arg! I don’t know how that missed editing. It’s supposed to be “all we’ve got is each other now.” Well, I’m fixing that.

Forgot to comment but the last mission was a disaster, they did complete but dam!
Plus poor Rainbow she really needs help, and needs to get some other means to destress.

Also wonder what going on with sweet Apples, wish AppleJack go check on it.

:rainbowlaugh: Perfect choice for both the mechanics of abominations and who to use for one. Especially given the mental image of a spindly Equestria Girls humanoid beating bandits with their own kind.

We’ll never be able to collect the bounties if the authorities can’t identify them!

What, do the authorities not keep cutie marks on record? I suppose there are more stringent nudity taboos in this Equestria than most...

But you’ve gotta get back on the horse, and on the wagon too.

I have several questions about how ponies came about that first idiom.

“Why?” Rainbow looked up at the others with tears in her eyes. “What am I doing wrong? Why does this keep happening?”

Someone teach this mare about probability. Given enough attacks over enough time, some are going to connect.

Hmm. Most curious developments at Sweet Apple Acres. I suspect some degree of flimflam, with or without capitals.

And mental health management is indeed a must for this lot. Even the ones who don't accidentally scry into stygian depths of forsaken nightmares.

Hmm... Celestia making 'upgrades' to Sweet Apple Acres? Me thinks we know where that green comet is going to land.

We've all had that adventurer who just, for reasons unknown to all but the higher powers of Darkest Dungeon, seem to draw fire more then any other... yet somehow their luck holds enough that they don't die.

As for the Necromancer... one cannot help but feel like Celestia isn't telling the whole story about her knowledge of them, or why they are there.

Just to clarify, this story will draw from both the Crimson Court and the Colour of Madness, as well as the base game? Or is it just CC (with all the mosquitoes, I assume that one is involved, at least).

9732512
The Crimson Court is a very unforgiving area.
You may get your wish, sooner or later.

9732614
I’m always brought back to
i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/587/965/556.jpg
Which makes ponies... for lack of a better term “weaponizable.”

What, do the authorities not keep cutie marks on record?

... ... ... :facehoof: damnit. Oversight. Well, they do take them all back anyhow...
I’m not entirely sure how they came about that idiom, but I am sure I’d have to add the prawn tag if I got into it.
“lulz git gud, Rainbow Crash”
I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the Flim Flam brothers in this fic.
Mental Health? In this setting? They drill holes in ponies’ heads to relieve schizophrenia!

9732717
:trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright: Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Yes, which is why I had the reaction from Amethyst during their first bout in the ruins. We’ve all had that moment where we go “will you just leave that character alone?! You haven’t touched anyone else!!” Whether for stress or damage, it’s always so aggravating, lol.
The necromancer is there because the Ponest Dungeon has full dental coverage with no deductible.

Oh got dammit! Shining a Klepto, and having paranoid issues, and he just seriously bucked up!

There's a chapter title that bodes ill...

Good to see Ditzy isn't delivering Detritus Specials anymore.

Quibble Pants as a prostitute... My mind doesn't even want to entertain that idea.

“The Great and Powerful Trixie is here to sell amazing and astounding curiosities, not watch you two ‘getting it on…’ though she will if you’re inclined to continue.”

"Fair warning, this won't get you a discount on the cauldron."

:facehoof: The kleptomania and denial are one thing, Shining, but this is sticking your hoof in the open mouth of the statue in the Tomb of Annihilation. It's just a shame that the others have to suffer for his stupidity.

...Is Shining going to kill Twi-... Amethyst? Because he seems insane enough to do it right now. Granted, that's not going to help his case with his boss who is likely going to literally witness the betrayal and murder.

9734360
If that’s the worst thing Shining does in this Fic, he’ll be getting off easy.

9734442
I try to make sure the titles are descriptive.
She’s busy...
From my locations & cast folder:

Working-colt 1: Quibble Pants - Quibble Pantsless?
Working-colt 2: Time Turner - Turns a bit a time
Working-colt 3: Spearhead - ... this one speaks for itself.

These cauldrons are made from genuine iron!
This is what happens when everyone is pissed off, rushing through things, like... basic safety.

9734556
Naw, Shining is too much of a stand-up guy for that.

9735265
Potoo, eh? At the risk of offending anyone religious:
66.media.tumblr.com/2b8a583bdf6febe7aedb7a786e5ed715/tumblr_mmvukcZnyH1r1kd1ao1_400.jpg The Great Potoo... finds you worthy.

9735353
WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS WAS A THING!?

Poor Amethyst.
