Twilight Velvet is a mare leading a charmed life. She's always relied on her ability to see a few moments into the future to keep her out of trouble, but when she gets caught up in danger that spans centuries and continents she's going to need to rely on other ponies if she wants to survive this bizarre adventure!

Two decades before the return of the Nightmare, an ancient evil is unearthed by ponies who aren't equipped to recognize it. The fate of the world is at stake in a game of cat-and-mouse between Twilight Velvet and four spirits of chaos!

Written for National Novel Writing Month. I'm going to attempt to publish a chapter every day as I write it, so there will probably be even more editing mistakes than my usual work (if that's even possible).

Saving Awaken for a few chapters on, then?

Is this story the work of an enemy Stand? (Hey, someone was going to say it. :raritywink:)

Looking forward to seeing how world-saving runs in the family.

JOOOOOOOOOOOOJOOOOO-Wait...what do you mean that doesn't work here....oh...OK fine. *ahem*. TWIIIIIIIIIIVEEEEEEEEEEEE! Surely there is someone to make this more JoJo? No? Why not? Because everything is already a JoJo reference? OK.

Nonsensical meanderings apart. Good story. Look forward to more.

The only I can think of from that title alone is "Sonic Underground!"

Ah, young Daring Do. So innocent, so naive. She'll learn better.

Did this donkey, by chance, wind up in Ponyville years later?

So Windigos bring winter and feed on deprivation and hatred. What do Pookas do and eat?

Do they, maybe, hang around invisibly and bug someone until they get driven to chaos?

Could this story be the work of an allied Stand?

Guess I'll track it and find out.

Hamon is a breathing technique, therefore, breathing is a JoJo reference.

I wonder if this is going to be the expedition where Daring learns that her future is going to be the Indiana Jones style archeology and not just the more academic sort.

9266436
BreathBreathing is a JoJo reference for another reason. What does breathing involve? That's right. Carbon dioxide. Hmmm.... Let's look closer here.... Carbon DIOxide? Nah....couldn't be that DIO is within all carbon based life on this planet...

Let me guess, your next line is going to be, "AYAYAYA!"

In all serious though loving this so far and can't wait to Meet Velet Joseph (and if all goes well would love to see a sequel with Sparkle Jotaro)

Precognition is a handy power, especially when it's precise enough to let you harness the butterfly effect. I'm even more interested now.

*Sees image.*
Twilight's mom... / ...has got it goin' on!

“Listen here,” Velvet said. “I need to pick the right flavor or else the rest of my day will be thrown off! What if I get vanilla but what I really needed was pistachio?”

Yup, that's Twilight Sparkle's mother all right.

As for that display... are we sure Velvet isn't a pooka herself? This seems like it's going to be a battle of mischief vs. mischief. I look forward to seeing it.

Man, she’s disturbingly good at Lepidoptary.

Chaos opportunities just sitting there unused...somepony has to pick them up right?

And yeah, definitely Sparkle’s mom.

Overworked but loving. And he knows to call his daughter in her nonsense. I like him. He just needs to spend a bit more time at home if he can.

World needs more father figures.

I'm gonna guess the statue in the museum is gonna be the Santana parallel, if we keep comparing this to JoJo. Good stuff.

Wow things are getting tense.

Now question, how exactly does Velvet's power here work? When she looks into the future, does how far/much she looks into it affect how long it takes her to see it? Or does she see however much of the future she wants within a heartbeat of her activating her power?

Getting intense now. Hold your Awakens, everyone, we're not there quite yet.

9272088
I'm pretty sure it's just a few seconds/minutes into the future, but very precise because of that, and it only takes about a heartbeat to see the outcomes.

Oh merde. Shapeshifting, or killing her dad and using the body as a puppet?

Very PHYSICAL so far for a chaos spirit. Not that that’s reassuring.

Quick, race to the other museum!

Shit's about to go down, my dudes.

This take on Twilight Velvet is just great, I love her abilities.

“...you’ll regret it if you don’t follow our advice,” the dark blue pony he was speaking to said in hushed tones. He didn’t look particularly frightening but the shirt he was wearing, black and white checkerboard, implied he at least had a deadly fashion sense. He couldn’t have been much older than Velvet was, and she didn’t remember seeing him around the museum.

Hmn. Night Light?

Oof. I doubt Velvet's father is gonna survive, but I do have hope. Having your magic consumed and your organs melted never has a good survival rate.

On another note, Mudhoney died rather quickly, similarly to Santana. I'm also pretty sure The Heart of the Sun is the parallel to the Red Stone of Aja. Now I'm just wondering who the Nazis are gonna be...
(Yes, I'm gonna keep comparing this to Jojo and drawing the parallels. I take this duty upon myself.)

I am eagerly awaiting whatever riff on "Your next line is..." happens.

I'm also wondering what the theme here is, or if the theme is no theme.
"Ooze!"
"Madness!"
"Christmas Lights in the Attic!"
"Bistronomics!"
"A Freebie!"
"By your powers combined, I am CAPTAIN PL- what do you mean I can't make that reference? Ugh, copyrights."

9274523
I hope she gets her hooves on some balls soon.

… That came out wrong.

And so we have a battle couple. Of course, there are more pookas to deal with, and it's a long way to Veneighs. Hopefully Daring's willing to help clean up her mess.

And Velvet's magical similarities to Celestia raise some interesting questions...

9274568
Well, they are chaos spirits. Given that, themelessness would be entirely fitting. As would Bistromathics.

Nice use of the oozes weaknesses.

Good thing the process of draining Harmony from his biology was slow. That's the kind of thing that doesn't take much to result in messy death. Of course, I suspect that the Pooka was actually trying to turn him into an ooze. These things must be done delicately...

Next worrying question, are all the Pookas the same or do they have their own weird quirks?

Next interesting question, why is Velvet's magic like Celestia's?

9274777
I'm not sure, Bistromathics could actually be an advanced application of Harmony Magic. They describe it as a strange dance with a hidden sense to it after all, buried in the absurdity.

Of course, it being Chaos and Harmony isn't actually a contradiction. It's like Jazz. The High Harmony of pattern emerging from Chaos.:derpytongue2:

Or I'm thinking too hard...:pinkiehappy:

i do believe all governments work like this

“It probably cost too much and went over budget?” Daring joked.

Oh dang, RIP Twilight grandad. Maybe.

That pooka was not prepared for modern chemical knowledge.

So Mudhoney the first of the poocas has been defeated and Velvet's father is saved (for the most part) loved this chapter and eagerly awaiting the next one, also it looks like Celestia is going to be the Lisa Lisa of this story (since Velvet's magic is so similar that I'm assuming that she is going to turn out to be Celestia's daughter) and that's going to awesome to see, can't wait!

Ooh, some Caballeron foreshadowing. Nice. Wonder how he goes evil.

I can kinda see the cult (or "gentlemare's club") being the Nazi parallel, with maybe Clearwater as Stroheim? Night Light is Caesar, probably (except he lives presumably).

Ah, born of conflict between the elements. Clever.

So going by the pattern (sides not opposites) we have possibilities for:
Earth Water Ooze
Earth Fire Lava
Water Air Smog
Air Fire Lightning

Cabelleron, nice touch. I wonder how Canelleron got caught up with ANOTHER ancient chaos spirit...

So the bat pony monster hunter is blind and is getting around with echolocation? I’m assuming they’re nectivores given how she likes her coffee.

Is there really all that much vitamin C in limoncello?

Well, at least the quasielements aren't getting involved. I'd hate to see a pooka of Vacuum. :twilightoops:

My grandmother had the same problem - she got the same headaches and weird magic I do. I mean, there was the rumor she used it to win a few bets...

"Your next line is going to be..."
Also, that prophetic streak may be part of the similarity to Celestia's magic...

Ominous overtones, though I quote like what you've done with Caballeron. Looking forward to more.

9276749
If we're going by the Planescape combinations, Air and Water become Ice, which makes me very concerned about unseasonable hail. (Also, Air and Fire make Smoke.)

“Eh, books don’t do much for me,” Clearwater shrugged. “Come on. We’re meeting the Limozeen on dock eight.”

I see what you did there

I also spot a MiB reference

9276817
Ice would make sense, though of course we could get the worst of both worlds with freezing clouds that have a liking for lungs. Sure it's no Vacuum paraelemental, but Belkers are nothing to sneeze at.

Of course, maybe Vacuum isn't in there because it isn't one of the four harmonious elements. Instead it's one of the chaotic ones we can infer from that description. Wonder what the other chaotic elements would be. Vacuum, Dark Matter, Neutronium, and Antimatter?

Also, can say from personal experience that if Fire and Air don't make Lightning then fire tornadoes are both real and very impressive to see.

9276825
Oh yeah! Hope she doesn’t pull out the neutralizer. If she does, Hope our precog knows to blink.

If it's not paraelementals, I'm putting imaginary money down on Mudhoney being water, just so the rest can be Earth, Wind, and Fire.
Also interesting to see their kids being assembled.
Me am nosleep reading comprehendsion

9276829
The quasielements are produced by combining an element with positive or negative energy, as opposed to paraelements that formed from two elements. Positive energy yields Lightning, Steam, Minerals, and Radiance. Negative energy produces Vacuum, Salt, Dust, and Ash.

9276829
Obviously the chaotic elementals are Vacuum, Dark Matter, Surprise, and Cheez. :derpyderp2:

*Sees first chapter title* Ah, I see you're a Stand User of culture, as well.

“I can’t do it on purpose. it happens when I have a magic surge. My grandmother had the same problem - she got the same headaches and weird magic I do. I mean, there was the rumor she used it to win a few bets but I can’t focus it or anything or I’d have the winning lottery numbers instead of… instead of whatever this is.” She motioned at the wall.

Neat.

9277833
How could I possibly forget the element of surprise?

that must horrible to watch somebody die, and know they are beyond your help when you see every possible outcome.
