AShadowOfCygnus

'I am made from the dust of the stars, and the oceans flow in my veins: here I hide in the heart of the city, like a stranger coming out of the rain.'

Time passes quickly in a beautiful world, and Twilight Sparkle knows it all too well: the sun is warm, the skies are bright, and Ponyville a richness of wonder and opportunity. The friends, the roads, the food and drink are all in their place, little dramas come and go, and her reports to Celestia proceed apace.

It’s imperfect perfection, and all things proceed exactly as usual until exactly the moment they don’t anymore.

With special thanks to my pre-readers: Luna Farrowe, Thornquill, and Sunicathorsis.

Featured, to my surprise.

Read two stories and their words ringing so sweetly too my ear?
What blessed karma allows me too bear such beauty?
What thing have I done to deserve...such?
I...know not!
Lol. ; ) (wink)
Well done. You had me at the description!
Phew that opening thats wheres its at!
Congrats on being a great writer!
Have A Twily!

(!TWILY WAS HERE!)

Another slow build to a dark conclusion. You have quite the Master's touch.

Hum hum hum, most confusing, yes yes. Thought provoking confusing

At first I assumed it was a lone pony story. Than I believed it was Twilight in denial of an Equestria gripped by famine. Now I know I was right the first time, yet I’m still confused as to how the world ended. If there were even any clues as to what happened of course. I’m just assuming it had something to do with the sky due to Rainbow Dash complaining about her wings and Sweetiebelle looking to the sky in awe.

I felt I was walking along a nice track with trees either side, and gradually the trees grew more and closer, and things got darker, and then things in the darkness started moving. Nice story.

This was very much the intent. Glad it seems to have worked!

All I'll say is, read through the story with the final line in mind and see if you can't spot any indications that something more is off than just the emptiness. :raritywink:

Well, my calculations are complete: Cygnus has done it again.

This is one of those stories that makes the reader flip back to the beginning and start skimming, trying to spot all the foreshadowing. There was no way to predict the ending, but really, the story couldn't have gone any other way.

This is a special type of horror story, which captures a sort of fear rarely seen in stories: The fear of being utterly alone. in a setting like this, the pitch would normally be that "the last mare of Earth is not alone." But this is far scarier.

If there is ever another book collection of the fandom's best short horror stories, (the first having been Nightmare Nights) I would nominate this one for inclusion.

Dam it was an amusement park all along. Now does that mean Twilight is a sort of artificially intelligent entity created for the park that survived the sudden shutdown of all her peers, or is she an actual living Twilight that somehow ended up here. I’m personally going for the former option.
