I am interesting in seeing where this will go. Honestly I didn't see where else this could go, at least in relation to Spike having anything to do with this relationship. I mean they pulled off that band-aid in the last story so I am really eager to see what part he has to play in this. It kinda just seem like he is here to have them skirt around the guy. But I think or at least hope he will have more of a part to play than that.I do wonder tho by the summery it seem Shy is more .... content?, No.... confident maybe is the world, in their relationship than it seems Rarity might be at the time. Man how ironic would it be if Spike is the one to help Rarity become more secure in her relationship with Shy. Talk about kicking a guy when he is down lol. But I don't think it would be done like that since we are seeing that these two do care about Spike but this situation isn't something easy to fix and it is just bound to happens that relationships change after what they went through in the last story.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say Spike doesn't play a huge role in their relationship insofar as this story. Romances only has room for two, after all (most of them, at least). Though I do have plans for him in a future story.

Lol I kinda figured that honestly. I mean this isn't 'his' story but theirs. He has served his purpose in the last one. I am VERY interested in seeing you do a story that if I am lucky with him being the focus maybe without him having to suffer throughout the whole thing and the following story lol. I know it is dumb it is just Spike is my favorite character so I tend to enjoy stories with him involved and I naturally want to see good things happen to him lol.
Mmm, it's not very clear what this one is going to be about so far. The summary is rather vague and the first chapter seems like a continuation of Spike's conflict. You did, however, say he's not playing a big role at this point so I'm intrigued about what's coming.
As a long-time reader (to put it mildly :p) I'm very happy to see this finally going up. It's really turned out beautifully Tai <3

Great chapter, the relationship has grown since Obsolete but I still wonder why it has to be on a need-to-know-basis since the would probably be a lot more ponies in a relationship like they are, but that is not important now.
I was surprised by Fluttershy going to speak with Spike when she saw him, most of the time people will try to avoid what could cause confrontations, but she went to him, to talk with him, I praiser her for that, she is showing us that she still her friend.
Rarity still flirtatious, but that's part of what makes her who she is. I am actually glad she didn't use Spike's pet name that would probably sour the mood or worse, it tells me that she has learned from the past. But somehow I sense a bit guiltiness, not sure why they shouldn't feel like that may be because they were on a date while speaking with Spike.
Spike, he kept it together it takes some real strength it may not have been one of the easiest things to do especially since both of them were there together. Even more when he put the pieces together, but he still young, Rarity was his first crush but that type of strength has its limits, he probably needs a bit more healing, I do wonder if he has already talked it over with someone already.
It's a great chapter, I there has been some nice steady character development, I can wait for the next chapter! I was afraid there wouldn't be an "Obsolete" sequel
For a second I thought Rarity might be tempted to go to 22 Acacia Avenue.

Spike has definitely developed since the last story, but part of that maturity is leaving well enough alone when he knows their relationship doesn't include him anymore. For what it's worth, it means this story more or less chases the development of Rarity and Fluttershy's relationship after such an event and not so much Spike's aftermath specifically.
Well this has been an adorable catch-up. Points to Steel Resolve for pointing people this way, I've had a lovely morning/afternoon binging the series. Can't wait for more

Hm. I wonder just what the opening of this, with Rarity flirting with the guy followed by his palpable disappointment... and if that is going to be important moving forward with Fluttershy's feelings. Hmhm.

This is interesting for sure. THIS is something I really REALLY wanted to see touched on in some way shape or form. When you have read as many fanfics as I have you see alot of the time a character build up a harem or something and the other person involved just goes along with it or just okay with being intimate with someone of the same sex when they have shown no interest in that before. THIS is how I think it should be, the person really having a hard time with it, showing the internal struggle of it. People don't just flip a switch most time and can do things like change their whole sexual views and this is a clear showing of that. Great job.

This is interesting. And Rarity's moment with Shy is sweet. I liked what she said..... I fear tho that she is speaking without truly knowing what the problem is. I know Shy is scared of losing her, and Rarity think that can never happen. But lets be real here and I might have FULLY missed the mark here. But I can't help but think Rarity ISN'T physically attracted to Shy. She love her as a pony, for who she is and how she make her feel and all of that. But as a MARE.... she just isn't attracted deep down to a mare. And that is a HUGE road block for a couple. It isn't like they are in their golden years were sex isn't something they think about. No they are like in their late 20s or so and they want to be intimate. But, and like I said I could be all wrong here, there is a party who just isn't attracted to the other and want to be intimate with them.
Not bad for a chapter, but I a felt little lost, one-moment Rarity is dreaming, the next it is Fluttershy's nightmare about herself and Mean-Rarity where the real one shows up yet it still Rarity's nightmare unless she pulled an inception that made it a bit hard to follow.

From the timeline that we got from this chapter, they have been dating for a little over 3 months but they have been friends for years. You do bring a point that in the previous chapter I have and still question about on Rarity's choice of words in one or two of the paragraphs.

Yea it is just something that has been itching at me with this story. I mean from what we have seen Rarity just didn't seem all that comfortable with being intimate with Shy. And even from the last story, the one with Spike, she seem to talk more about how Shy made her feel than being just plainly attracted to her. And Shy being who she is so WOULD pick up on the fact her beloved isn't physically attracted to her like she is with her. And that would make her fearful of losing her big time.

It's a problem. Shy had just barely shown Rarity that she was capable of ignoring the physical form of her lover (Rarity is as straight as an arrow in this story.) The problem is that having failed utterly a few times prior to managing it once Rarity is still a little gun-shy. They still haven't hit upon the obvious answer of sex toys, Rarity is still too focused on the idea of oral as the end all be all of lesbianing. Once they settle down and find a catalog things will be better, especially since Rarity could conceivably move several objects at once making for some really intense experiences and Shy can do all sorts of fun things to Rarity with feathers. That and let's face it, when you get horny enough I imagine being mounted with a strap on wouldn't be appreciably different, and in fact could be a better experience because your partner is paying attention to your every tiny moan to give you the best time possible.

That is very true and could be where they go. But I think that is putting kinda a band-aid on the issue. I mean isn't the core of the problem that Rarity isn't attracted to Mares. Your suggestion would be great if like a stallion lost his junk or something but this is really digging into the core of them as ponies, lol. That is like saying a straight guy can do a gay guy if he is holding a flesh light. If the one party is lacking that natural attraction to the other than they wont feel horny with them. They would be forcing themselves to be intimate with them and that just make it seem like more of work than a expression of love between two ponies, lol. I think they really need to work this shit out, if they can come to a kind of peace with their feelings honestly. If they can do that I can really see your suggestion be a good fix for the two of them.

Well, no, it's like saying it's possible to pleasure someone without being engaged in the sex act yourself. And I'm sure Rarity would be more than happy to see Shy satisfied without worrying about whether the act itself turned her on.
The body is really weird like that. Yes, attraction helps, but you can still get horny and feel pleasure even if your partner is not your type, or even your gender preference. Granted, it's a lot easier if attraction is present. Rarity just needs to find traits in Shy she finds desirable and that should take care of a lot of the mental hangups.
Sometimes a relationship is like that. One person isn't feeling it but the other is, and they give it the old college try. That's an expression of love as well.

You bring up a very good point, and given that it's the crux of conflict, it's something that is addressed in this series (though this story alone might not tie up all the loose ends). I'd recommend reading Lust if you haven't already; it provides a different perspective on this exact conflict line.

This was very nice. I LOVE the way you handled it. You didn't dance around the issue. You didn't make it where Rarity was like 'oh I am fully sexually attracted to Mares now' or something. You let it stand. Yea Rarity honestly isn't sexually attracted to females, BUT she loves every other aspect of Shy and honestly that so outweigh being able to get off with someone. Sex is GREAT but it is something you can't built a relationship on. Sex sooner or later will fade or dwindle and it is what you have besides that that really matter. I think this is something they will still have to work on but I think they left this in a good place for them to progress as a couple.

It takes two to Tango. Yes, Rarity is flirty, but that is not inherently a problem. Long before dating was a thing for Rarity and Fluttershy they were friends. Fluttershy was not surprised by this aspect of Rarity. The problem is when you are dating someone who know is flirty and don't tell them that it bothers you. Fluttershy has at least some responsibility because, as mentioned, Rarity cannot read minds.

The thing about Rarity is that she flirts too much, she is already dating Fluttershy, one of the timidest ponies known. They have been friends (possibly for a long time) before dating. They already knew (hopefully by now) most of their quirks, so Rarity should have known especially since "Obsolete" that if she keeps flirting around its going to cause misunderstandings. Yet she is flirting even in her dreams, as a Guy, if I flirt around while I am dating a girl, people would call that a type cheating and if the roles were reverse it still the same, what makes Rarity any different?

Double standards, of course. If a girl is flirty, everyone thinks of her as fun and carefree. If a guy is flirty, he's probably a creep, unless he's superhot, and then he's probably the type who will cheat on you given the least opportunity.
The point is, being flirty is not a problem. It's how it affects people you care about. By itself, it's harmless. Rarity is brightening the world a bit by making ponies around her feel desirable, and not making direct advances on them. It's only been harmful in Spike, who took it way too harshly that she found someone, and basically began to hate every little thing he'd ever done for her because he had false hopes, and harmful for Fluttershy because she has enough issues without her new girlfriend metaphorically lifting her tail for every male they see.

In truth, I am a bit angry at Rarity, she is openly flirty while being on a date with Fluttershy. I do agree that being flirty is not the problem but how it affects those around. If you were on a date would you flirt with anyone while your date was next to you? It just that it annoys me, she didn't mind flirty with the one stallion trying to get the flowers, then she is notified by Fluttershy that Spike is on a nearby stall. What if Spike saw her flirt with the stallion how would that look? Would have caused even a bigger issue? But that didn't happen, because Fluttershy pulls her away at a different stall and leave us hanging as to why. Spike had false hopes because Rarity kept on giving him false hope.

Yes and no. It wasn't like Rarity was promising him anything beyond what she gave, which was affection and attention. He was the one who assumed it meant more. It's actually a little sad, because in canon, I think Spike is actually just a helpful little guy who yes, does have a crush on Rarity, but doesn't assume doing little chores to help her out entitles him to her love.
She should have had more of a care for his feelings, but it wasn't like he ever told her what he was feeling beyond that he liked her and liked being around her.
Again, Rarity is not psychic. She's not out to hurt anyone, pony or otherwise, she's just a very friendly and flirty pony who is used to other ponies doing nice things for her because she makes them feel good for doing those things. We've all seen people like that in our lives, people who we might dream of being with, but often it's enough to have made that person happy for a moment. We don't blame those people for making us feel that way.

I am actually happy about Rarity in this chapter, the previous chapters not so much, it just felt like she was out of character at times. Like she was being weighed down by some type of guilt it made it even worse was when she was apologizing and it just irritated me even more. I guess it was because she was being a bit flirty when she was on a date.
I am really glad when Rarity, let the stallion know, "This is Fluttershy, she is my mare-friend" and I was like "F-Yeah!! that is what I was waiting for!!!" (of course, doing that in a crowded place was not the best thing to do ). I know it would take a whole lot of guts, but Rarity step it up and did great and that alone made me enjoy the chapter even more.
I ain't no dreams expert, but that was some High Level of Inception right there!! It made me go check the movie out.
Fluttershy in this story was by far the one character that had both the greatest strength and weakness. When I mean by that is that she did everything to make sure that Rarity wouldn't worry and was her pillar of support yet in turn, it made her have some real self-doubt about herself. I was glad that she stopped Rarity from asking Spike "are you ok?" it's like someone asking you "are you angry?" you reply "no" yet they keep asking you until you do get ANGRY.
