His memory's fine, save for his name. The detachment is pretty much what people suffering from a severe enough depression would experience, feeling aloof and dispassionate about things they would normally care about. The loss of his name is a part of the attachments he had, and unlike memories are more a label on a package than a fundamental part of someone's identity. Normally the name wouldn't matter, but Anon's an established "character" and within the context of the story I'm treating him as if he'd come from a normal human background before arriving in Equestria, rather than assuming he'd always been "Anonymous." (For plot reasons, of course.) There's that, and the analog thing, too.

Well, in all honesty, things like what we can eat and how to read and write are so drilled into us since we could toddle that it becomes a part of our subconsious. And our subconscious is something we will never lose. So yeah, he knows it. Also, just an fyi on mind stuff, did you know that the human brain has unlimited memory capacity? 9222925 Yes, I do know about the apparent limitlessness of raw memory storage in the brain, and how it's almost certainly due to quantum effects acting upon individual ion channels, allowing them to tunnel electrons and whatnot.
And yes, the search engine of the brain tends to suck in all but a few rare individuals who can remember such things a crease on the corner of one page in a book they read 30 years ago.

I would imagine that should they fail to find a spell to correct his gender, Discord would be able to assist in the matter.
At the very least, it would mean he'd be taking a margin of responsibility to correcting the problems that arose because of him, even if they were accidental.
I made this account just to say that I didn't read stuff on this site for few years and when I decide to check it out again I first come across this (which I read going in blind) which is the most ridiculous scenario I've seen yet

I'll keep reading... Just some thoughts: try to make the story about the characters and events that occur and don't focus entirely on him coping with the whole body change and gender swap thing. I guess it is the main plot device here but I think that focusing on his gender alone could lead to some "cringy" situations. Im not quite sure how to explain it because "cringy" doesn't cut it. Try to also maybe ignore the real world where changing genders is a heated topic so you can focus on more enjoyable aspects of writing fanfiction than just trying to prove your standpoint. I'm not blaming you for anything or saying you are doing any of this stuff. Its just that this story can go into many different directions and I hope it's not going to go to shit. But you know what? Just do whatever you think is best and that's fine.

Focusing on characters and events is my preference, so no worries. The gender, species and age change have their role in the story, but it's not about coping with them (although I can't ignore them entirely, of course).

Well that's something. Feel bad for Rainbow though. She is kind of the biggest victim of circumstances here I think.
Still enjoying the general direction of the story. But she becomes an accidental mother and then her house is wrecked.
Seems some things are going to simply be, in this case, biological connection.
Hopefully rainbow will be in a state of mind to listen and not yell at a baby that destroyed her house with tears

I'm working under the assumption that a special set of skills are put into house-building, as opposed to working with clouds all willy-nilly or as part of a weather team, since they have to maintain those shapes for a long time, carry lots of weight (like the floor and walls in Rainbow Dash's foyer) from non-pegasi without allowing them to fall through, and likely do other things.
Odd and a bit disconcerting. But they are in the palace so it should be fine guess.
If it isn't then either magic or the place they are in are not safe. So keep going?

Sorry: for some reason I hadn't noticed your post until last night.
I'm just generally slow to update stuff, but I've been pretty distracted and preoccupied by various things lately, my depression got worse for a while, and about two weeks were lost on account of being sick.
I'm finishing up an update for another story right now, then I have another story to update and a short one-shot to add, then I'll begin to work on this again. Hopefully I'll have another chapter for this story before February.
