"How do they not have a huge overpopulation problem?" he asks. I kind of wondered that myself. This isn't the same kind of ratio that was seen in Bloom Filter. This is much more extreme. You would think since it is more even in reality our own numbers would not have exploded the way they did, but that did not stop us. Is there any particular reason Sunny wants eleven mares for each stallion?

Ironically, it is exactly the same ratio as in Bloom Filter. Random data's full of clustering, I guess!
If there is any particular reason, I'm afraid it won't be made clear until the winter comes again.

In any case, there was a practical reason for it there, and they were but illusions failing, and making things what they really are. This, I suspect is much more random, and you cannot predict, let alone accurately what's going to happen, as there wouldn't be any inherent traits to select like there is there.
Once again, it sounds like one in twelve rather than quarter, and nothing in it actually says so. This is far from the first. I should accept this as a quirk, as there's no denying it.
I'm still wondering how our numbers exploded in reality when having it near half and half should have prevented that. If male births have any benefits, it's the fact they should in theory prevent unneeded population explosions. How is it possible they don't fix the overpopulation problem?

Well, you're not wrong.
The story doesn't say. I was just commenting on a little behind-the-scenes spoiler. I'm actually using the same program to pick a gender.
Women had more than two kids. If every human female has more than 2 kids on average, the population grows... factorially. Gender ratio doesn't matter so much as birth-per-adult.

Well, Then if that's the case, no tweaking of gender ratios will ever help curb excessive, needless population explosions, which was the idea the Chinese tried to execute. I guess large, ever increasing numbers are inevitable no matter what you do. Frankly, I'd love that crisis to be global. It would allow all ecosystems to return to normal in our absence.
This honestly sounds like that other tale I mentioned several times, except this one isn't a virus. If it were, his sister would have had it well over a month ago, and she didn't. And there would be no need for hiding, nor would they have been left in cells, as there would be far too many to lock up. It sounds to me she was specifically looking for bronies, and got exactly what she was looking for, a stark contrast to that other tale where it wasn't anyone especial, only whoever was in the high occupancy buildings by chance, and with full intent to clean up the mess later.
The explanation that it was all being told through AB's perspective made little sense when that bias is gone halfway through, and a more objective stance is made. In fact, unless I am very much mistaken, it was outright stated to be one in six, which is still greater a difference than what you said.
