For some people, small, beautiful events are what life is all about!

T

Starlight Glimmer is all set to graduate from her friendship tutelage under Twilight Sparkle. On the one hoof, that's great! She's finally been fully redeemed in her own eyes and the eyes of society. On the other hoof, there really aren't a lot of jobs for magical super-prodigies in a farming town, which means that whatever her future holds, she's probably going to have to leave Ponyville. Installed as a probationary member of faculty at Canter University, Starlight has to cope not only with leaving her old friends behind, but with a bevy of eccentric academics, magical experiments gone wrong, an underground plagiarism ring, and worst of all, students.

Part of the Wibblyverse continuity.

Narcotics tag for alcohol, an addiction to stealing work, and an entire lecture hall getting literally stoned.

Definitely a good start, but there are a few spelling errors that are holding it back, my favorite being "cottoned".

Still a good idea and pretty good execution. I'll definitely be watching over this one.

Thanks. I always really liked the idea of goofy academics, so this plotline should be fun to write. However, I must ask; what's wrong with my use of "cottoned"? Some people around my area say "cottoned on" to mean "understood". Is that just a local thing, do you suppose?

Update: I researched it. "Cottoned on" is technically a real phrase, but quite uncommon nowadays. It's from a 17th century expression "cotton with" meaning "to get along with someone". However, it's not exactly in common parlance nowadays. Thanks for bringing that to my attention; I'll try and avoid that expression in future.

The issue isn't it being or not being a phrase.

Fluttershy cottoned on first

You meant to use the word "caught" rather than "cottoned".

That's what I mean; they mean the same thing.

I don't suppose her teaching experience at Twilight's school will help?

Also, fuck the deer and SUPER FUCK Aspen. Funny Twilight says they can't just go around killing people they don't like, they seem to do a lot of banishing and imprisonment.

Am I ready to work closely w/ Sunburst?

I can't help but wonder what Starlight means by that...

Always on the lookout for a good comedy. This has all the makings of one of the greats. Good luck.

“We can’t depose him,” Twilight interrupted. “Believe me, I asked after the last time he tried expanding the forest boundaries. Apparently, he can’t leave the throne except by death or his own free will, and he doesn’t die unless somebody kills him in battle. He’s a nuisance and a tyrant, but we can’t just go around killing people we don’t like.”

And this fillies and colts, is why the whole deer clusterf**k thing from the comics will never make it into the show. There's no way hasbro could make Aspin a worthwhile anything without making him even more lame than Sombra was.

And Sombra was a total ripoff of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings.

Oh, I dunno. I've had some ideas about villainous deer in the future, mostly based on particularly nasty old stories about the fair folk and elves. They all have their domains and their rules that they dare not cross, but within those boundaries, they'll carve you up like a trussed turkey. But I suppose that's a bit too far the other way to make it into the show, too.

I had some ideas about Sombra as well, but they're still cooking...

This is an entirely silly take on academics and I love every second of it. And TBH when you start looking behind all the bullshit and fancy words thrown around, it can get very silly IRL.

If she went there, she would be alone in a city of two thousand souls. Perhaps even three thousand if you were generous enough to count the nobles.

why does Canterlot have such a small population are ponies close to extinction in your story? that would be considered an abnormally small city in post black death Europe let alone a industrial age civilization.

No, I just grew up in a "town" where the population size was roughly ten, and thus have difficulty remembering that a few thousand people isn't actually that many.:twilightblush: Thank you for pointing that out; I will fix it immediately.

Wonderful stuff thus far. I hope you revisit this soon.
