Twilight Gets a Puppy

Howl of the Cutie
[ Ponyville School House, (seriously this thing is never named)]
The chaotic chatter of foals filled the room as Mrs. Cheerilee settled into her desk. It was still a few minutes until class began and the foals were still adjusting to being back in school for a week now. The ringing of the bell would signal them all to be ready to learn so she let them talk and argue and do what ever they were doing until that time. Better she let them get it out of their system now. Still once again she was glad she was only dealing with 4th through the 8th grade. Ponyville starter got them while they were still screaming toddlers and they were gone to Canterlot High before they became surly teenagers. Not to say that there were not issues mind you, and there were several students she still taught privately who's families didn't want them taking the round trip train ride to Canterlot every day, either because the foals were needed on the farm, or other more personal reasons. This was still a mostly rural community after all. But all in all she was teaching what many considered the sweet spot in the age groups.
As the foals chatted about their weekends Cheerilee took the time to look through her planner for the day. Her eyes ran down her list when she noticed a extended break period had been penciled in right after class was to start. She frowned slightly trying to recall why she had done that though looking up on her list the answer became clear. She wondered if she would have to alter today’s lesson plan to accommodate him, but after a moments thought she opted to avoid the change. After all it was likely something he was unfamiliar with too.
She rose from behind her desk after shutting her planner and headed to the door looking around curiously in the hall seeing no sign of him. Odd, he had seemed rather excited when they had talked, though it wouldn't be the first time some pony had over slept when shifting to a new schedule.
Well it would still be a a good idea to lead off with the new information. It was only a pity she wouldn't have any one else in his scholastic group. Dogwood, and Sandy were going to be graduating and headed to Canterlot high at the end of the year and she would be getting in a few new students next term. Likely a few more this term as well if Mrs. Crabapple finally retired as she kept proclaiming she was going to do.
A loud popping sound, followed by a thunderous crash and a few of her students screaming out brought her out of her thoughts. She jerked back into the class room to see a number of her students had left their desks and run to the other side of the room away from a massive pile of text books that had appeared between her desk and theirs.
Cheerilee blinked as the bell finally rang and the pile of books started moving on it's own. A purple clawed hand poked out trying to move a particularly heavy dictionary off what she assumed was it's head.
Cheerilee sighed realizing what was going on.
“While I appreciate your efforts not to be tardy, we have doors for a reason.” Cheerilee chided trotting over to help him emerge from the pile he was buried in.
“Tell that to my sister. “ muttered a voice from the pile. “First she was piling books on me that I might need , then she freaked out at the time and here I am.”
“Well you are here on time so I suppose there is that.” Cheerilee smiled glad she had written in the extra time. “Class I would like to introduce a new student starting this semester, he's a week behind so I’m sure some of you would like to help him catch up.”
The purple scaled figure finally climbed up out of the books removing a math tome from his head where it had gotten impaled on one of his spines.
All of the foals in the room looked at the Dragon before them like he was a live viper ready to bite, all save one.
“Errr hello, I’m...” The dragon started before the one filly unafraid of him spoke up with a smile.
“ Hi Spike.” Applebloom shouted.
“Errr hi...yeah, I’m Spike.” Spike offered with a wave to the others. “ Guess I’m your new classmate.”
Okay, I am confused.
Why is Spike now a student at The Ponyville School?
8734075 High brows thinking that social interaction with other young kids is healthy. I grew up around people that were in Korea and Vietnam so I could never make myself believe the actions of those my own age were acceptable in civilized civilization. Though maybe the Congo or Kenya

It's kinda a promo thing. Right now the MLP theme should be playing then it gets explained.
My brain thought it was cool.......
As it is modeled on an old west style single-room schoolhouse; they generally weren't named except after the town they were in, cause the town usually didn't have more than one school.
Ponyville School House then would be a likely name. The town probably doesn't have a high-school as Equestria is still a strange mix of Renaissance, Early industrial, Modern and high medieval, so they might still tend towards apprenticeships instead of high schools.
Nice spike in school. Can't wait to see what going to happen.

Don't worry, my brain thinks it's cool too.

If you think about it, canon-wise he's roughly the same age as the rest of the foals in Ponyville.
Spike in school? Now this is something interesting, and particularly something that missed out from the official canon. Since Spike hatched when Twilight was eight, he should still be around the age of the CMCs when he moved to Ponyville. Therefore, by law, he should attend school like every fillies/colts. Although he might be more knowledgeable and mature than most from living with his siblings.
Huh. Now THIS is something that you don't see every day...
Too short, need more!

Considering Twi didn’t recognize the high school in EQG I was kind of thinning that highs he isn’t a thing in Equestria. There private school and college and for pegisi it's flight camp. Saying high school is in Canterlot, well uh it a few hours up the mountain.
8735122
True may need to rework it some. But Twi was privately tutored too so that might be why she didn't recognize it

I mean by the time you get your cutie mark and know what you want ot do wit your life your assumingly around 12-16. so yeah there differently K-8/ I think there more Specialist schools for anything higher the primary. Given Maud's rockogly and such. But on the other hand, there might be high school it just Ponyville rual so it not really big enough. Cheerilee seems to be the only teacher.
on a side note, yeah always did wonder why Spike wasn't in school, i kind of assume Twi just home schooled him between her own studies. oh and allowance because he owns his own comics
PS: on the trian thing, well given it a steam train having to go uphill the whole way up to Canterlot can't image it very fast. ingoring the plot over night thing for the mystery cake episode i'd assuming at least 2-3 hours to climb the mountain. no actual proof though

The biggest issue with things like the train is that the show alters how long it takes dependant on what is needed.
Oh hey, made by TDR! Time to get some quality reading done.

I guess you could say it rubs on the magic of thought. You think the rrip will take an hour so it does.
Her name is Crabapple? I've been calling her Crandall!
I really like these alterations. You're doing a really good job.

My guess? Based on Edna Krabappel.

We still have a bit of that down here in NZ. The two colleges/high-schools ( in walking distance of where I live are Pakuranga College (named after the township/suburb nearby) and Macleans College (named after the former owners of much of the farmland in the area). In fact, I can only think of one school in the general area that's not named after a local landmark or township.
I don't think he needs to catch up, sending Spike to school seems to be more about getting him to socialize with those around his own age
That's because that is its name, duh

Pinkie, naming your schoolhouse after the town is not conducive to successful originality.
Always wished they'd done more CMC and Spike eps. The one they did have was great.
...Have... have you met a middle schooler before?
As a high school teacher, you get maybe a bit of rebelliousness, but they usually respect you if you are good enough of a teacher and engaging with the subject. And while it does certainly take a lot of effort to corral elementary school students, nothing compares to middle school, where half the kids have suddenly lost all concept of authority, and are also just socially smart enough to mentally destroy others.
I'm probably biased. I remember pretty much all my teachers in high school, since they were actually good ones, and while studying to be a teacher, I worked a few days at an elementary school. Despite not even being entirely sure what I was doing, it was a fairly okay job, even when dealing with the problem students. (And probably, so is Cheerilee, if I think about it, since she knows she likes her job, and she probably hears horror stories from other grades.)
Holy Shit... I read over 1000 Storys but that never happend Spike in school
Spike sure could needs some friends and education. Than again his apperently Twilights level mostly
Of course it's never named. It's the ONLY school in Ponyville (apparently) so it'd make since that it would be called Ponyville Schoolhouse. And since that's the most obvious name that would mean there's no reason to mention the name, obviously. I mean it's not like it's going to be named Podunk School for Pones.

Until Twilight eventually opens her Cult of Friendship School.
DR and Silver probably can't mess to mutch with a Dragon

Heh...knowledge of how this goes makes that a very funny, very sad, and very dark statement friend

Spike is like a teenager or above, so that with his sharp tongue will teach bullies their place.
But will it be sooner or later?
