This would be significantly easier if he weren't even more socially crippled than Fluttershy herself.

7949324 Well, I don't know if you read the actual story, but you'll see he was named Garnet Graphite after his colours. And no, while it's common to name girls after colours and gems, it's not always the case. Of course, SU having shown up blemishes that, but again, the Gems don't precisely have genders themselves.

7956512 Ha, yeah. I got stuck on the 'tries to' part of 'tries to woo', and figured that since most OCs actually go out and flirt and (most of the time) are successful, what would be really interesting is if the OC is so socially crippled to the point he's worse than Fluttershy is.
Again, Fluttershy is the less shy of the two.
