I must say, I enjoyed this story. It had a stereotype-breaking character and a common story line, playing them off together in something brand new. I can honestly say that I'll look forward to the chapters to come.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and as for breaking stereotypes, habits die hard as they say, and I'm not quite done with the crime with Quill. It might be a spoiler, but you'll see what I mean when it happens. And as for this story being an evasion tool, thanks! I think it would help a lot of people... ponies??? It's not very important to the over all story. I didn't find it necessary to include it if it only has a small role to play in an over arching story about a struggling writer with a knack for getting in trouble with the law. And even though it doesn't look like it, she does struggle with her work. THAT is a bigger part of the story.
So, she now has parent figures. Aw!
I hope she finds her way in life.
Also, you said in a previous comment that romance wasn't a big part of the story. Is it not a big part yet or will we not see any Quill-love in this story? I wanna see her happy with somepony at some point! And then watch that love get snatched right out of her hooves by the cold hand of Death.
Also, if this isn't a story about romance, what is it a story about? These chapters seem to be brief synopses of her foalhood, but they don't seem to focus on any one event. My advice? Slow down a little. Unless there's something big coming--say, her getting her first job and struggling to keep it with her past transgressions--then it's fine to skim over these things; but if this is what the story's going to be like, it's going to go a lot faster than you'd probably like.
I know I'd love to read more about her new family and their struggles with a new child and her struggles with a new home!
Overall? Can't wait for the next chapter.

Oh, Awkward... you want to learn more about her family life... I see, well... you'll just have to see what happens! And as for the inconsistencies in the story telling, have you ever read an autobiography? Or even just I biography? They only focus on the more important parts. The parts that shaped the person into being who they are now, rather than explaining her entire life and putting detail into every little thing. That is what I'm trying to emulate in this story. Quill is writing this at age 29, and going over her life thus far. Only dealing with her mentor, her friends, and her parents. And the short little snippets of important things she feels has impacted her life such as losing her best friend, discrimination, fame, and eventually love. Soon you will see that part be more of a focus, but not the main point. The point is Quill's life. Who she meets, and what she takes away from an experience. And you'll finally see her life calm down. She'll move to Ponyville, befriend the Main Six, Meet Lyra and Bonbon, and reconnect with an old friend. But this being an autobiography, you'll have to read this with the knowledge that it will be, at times, all over the place.

I seriously can't wait to read all of that--especially befriending the Mane 6! I mean, Pinkie's a shoe-in, but the rest of them might be slightly more difficult. Maybe she buys all her clothes from Rarity and her apples (and other crops, if AJ grows more than just the best fruit ever) from Applejack! Since she's an author, she'll probably go to the library often, bringing her and Twilight together, and... actually, now that i think about it, there's not much that would happen between her, Rainbow and Flutters... unless she has a love for animals of some capacity, and suddenly becomes athletic... which I really hope doesn't happen...
maybe they meet through the other Mane 6. Like, Rarity's Spa Day with Flutters and Rainbow and AJ's constant head-butting.
Well, however it turns out, I can't wait to see what happens.

You have really funny ideas, I really love your enthusiasm about this! But, you see, when you are right about Pinkie and Quill being super close, as well as Twilight and Rarity, Apple Jack is going to be the one who she doesn't get along with. You see, though she isn't Athletic herself, Quill is a sports fan. And as for animals, Quill would be a monster if she didn't like them. But Quill actually has little in common with Apple Jack. You see, though she loves Sugar and Chocolate, she isn't very family oriented, and she barely knows the definition of hard work because even when working at the diner she never felt as though she was actually working. Sure Apple Jack and Quill are both orphans, but neither of them vocalize that fact so they never get very close as a result. But you'll see more of what I mean when we get to it.

A rough start, with the new characters and situations, but it gets better. I feel like a good portion of this could be explored a little more, but it's definitely entertaining. I wonder why Carrot Top didn't like Quill. If it wasn't her gayness, could it be something she wrote about? Perhaps her friends or family love her books, and she grew to hate them--and her by extension--because of their constant admiration towards Quill. The hint towards the Quill/Twilight ship was adorable, Spike needs to grow up and realize that Twi is her own mare, but I can understand how he doesn't want things to change--like most children do, when it comes to family. The letters were heartfelt and caring. I hope we hear more from Lilac soon. It would suck for Quill to grow lonely and try to make a move on an inebriated Twilight Sparkle, only for Lilac to walk in just as the two mares are getting into bed!

As for a Twilight/Quill ship, it was just them having wine together, nothing more. Yes, Lilac will be having a bigger role to play soon, but I have bigger plans that don't involve her when it comes to Quill aswell

As for why Carrot Top hating Quill, I left that open ended for a reason. Remember, Quill doesn't know why Carrot Top hates her, so giving an explanation why, really defeats the purpose of saying that she still doesn't have an answer.
