6 years. There's some references to things that happened in the show. Like the dragon migration, the releasing of night mare moon, and Discord's plunder seed vines. I imagine he was there a year before Twilight went to Ponyville.

I was thinking this through the original, but for some reason the name Atchmon makes me think of Digimon for some reason. Heh, that would be a fun dream for Luna to stumble onto. Atchmon dreaming that he was one.

No. I consider Troubleshoes a totally different breed of pony. Atchmon is closer to Shining Armor in size and body type. Though Big Mac will be larger than both of them, since I consider him a Draft, whereas Troubleshoes is clearly a Clydesdale breed. I'd like Atchmon to not be the biggest, since he wasn't really born a pony. But sticking close to something from the show would make things easier when imagining what he looks like.
If there was a size chart it would be:
'standard' Earth pony stock (background stallions)< Shining Armor model<Big Mac<Trouble Shoes<Rock Hoof
