Following the aftermath of Queen Chrysalis' evil plot to take over Equestria, and the transformation of the Changeling Kingdom, Princess Celestia has insisted that Twilight Sparkle be guarded 24/7 by a trained royal guard. Having refused the offer to be guarded before, Twilight is not too keen on being watched over every moment of every day.
Although she is doubtful at first, Twilight comes to believe that she and her friends have many challenges yet to face.
As this new development unfolds, a creature of unknown origins comes to Equestria with a dark purpose. Light becomes cast over the shadows of Equestria’s ancient past, and a well known truth may come to save this peaceful land.

Alrighty. First off I just want to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how little edge there is here. Judging by the cover art I figured that this was going to be one of those fics I was going to have a grand time riffing with a few friends. Glad I was wrong.

After reading this twice now, I can honestly say I couldn't look away from it. It most certainly has a gripping, shaded tone, while also maintaining that colorful atmosphere. The portrayals for the Mane 6, Spike, and the rest are well done, overall, though I just couldn't quite understand what made Rainbow Dash so pumped up in meeting Twilight's arriving guard, even before she knew it was only one Pegasus. Speaking of which, Starfall Blitz is certainly a character I enjoy reading, imagining him speaking slightly carefree though self-collected, like Bing Crosby, with a touch of anxiety of how to bond properly with everypony. He has that friendly, Bing demeanor, for me at least, whenever speaking with Twilight and the others. But when need be serious, he can convey a Kevin Conroy demeanor from Batman: TAS, due to his Royal Guard Training. His interactions with Moon Frost seem intriguing, as well. Shadow Light, I find, to be equally, though distinctively compelling, hearing him speak as though he were a kid. Timid, anxious, and easily frightened, maybe even having a lighter voice, like a kid. It's no wonder he and Fluttershy hit it off, so well. His moments of epiphany in finding sources of joy in Equestria and Ponyville, after spending millennia locked in the dark, countered with his sudden assaults from inside of him makes him even more a treat. And having him be the catalyst of Celestia and Discord being on the exact, same page, for probably the very first time? Just what are we dealing with, exactly? And did that black dragon get the amulet, along with the staff from Ember? How? That little portrayal of paranoia was spot on, in that segment. I definitely look forward to more. God Bless.

The more I think about it, and read these chapters, I'm actually getting a little sense of The Iron Giant, here. I may have said that, already. If so, sorry.
Anyway, I get that sense of the childlike giant in Shadow, especially in befriending the Crusaders. Then comes the Mansley type of portrayal in Discord, which seems intriguing, though also disturbing. But he actually conveys a more sympathetic approach, it seems. First expressing them with Fluttershy, then Celestia (mutually, I might add), and now Starfall. He really doesn't appear to know anything about Shadow Light, and is even more afraid, because of it.
I wonder where this might lead, in relation to the two characters?
I look forward to next Friday, and find out more. If not then, it would most definitely be worth the extra wait, regardless. God Bless.

It isn't dark enough to add the Dark label on it. I'm trying to stick to a generally believable level of dark for it being My Little Pony, if that helps at all.

Hmm... wow, I've never actually thought about that before.
Well, Moon Frost is the OC of a friend of mine. I imagine she'd want Moon's voice as her own, but I could see Tabitha St. Germain coming up with a good way to fill that role. It's tough to try and pinpoint which voice would fit each character best, but I could try and give you a general idea of who I imagine they sound like (I apologize in advance if it comes out over the top, I've never been asked to describe the voices of characters in my stories before).
Starfall would sound more like a slightly higher pitched Shining Armor if I'm being honest, but I'd say the personality in how he talks would be more along the lines of Chris Evans' Captain America.
Shadow's is honestly the most challenging for me to pinpoint. I think the best way to describe it would be, in all honesty, more like Gabriel Brown's (BlackGryph0n) voice. If Gabriel Brown went for the kind of lost pony voice, I think he'd get Shadow's down easy.
Erebus (the voice in Shadow's head), alternatively, would sound a lot like Mark Hamill's variation of Malefor from The Legend of Spyro. A deep, foreboding voice that just feels evil.
Lastly comes Stormclaw. He has more of a broad, powerful voice (as to be expected from a dragon antagonist). Difficult to say which voice actor would get his down right, so I'm not exactly sure about him.
I'm glad you asked, it's an interesting thing to think about.
