Just a random guy who stumbled into a fictional universe that actually inspired him to write.

This fic hits the mark for me. It always irked me when people said -- after it was already revealed -- that Princess Twilicorn had been inevitable and that "everyone" saw it coming. I didn't see it coming, it wasn't the future I'd imagined for her, and even now it still seems. . . awkward, at best.

I have read, here on FiMFiction, a slice-of-life story that looked in on Twilight Sparkle in her later years, in a scenario much more like I'd envisioned. She'd become Royal Archmage (or some such title) and one of Equestria's most renowned scholars. Her friends' varied interests had drawn them apart over the years (and Pinkie Pie was a notorious airship pirate!), but Twilight still corresponded with Applejack, if I recall right. It was a sort of bittersweet story, but it was good enough to stick in my mind.

The search function here on FiMFiction is pretty versatile, and I can usually locate something if I put some effort into it, but this one defeated me. I can't remember the name, and I just can't find it. If anyone else can recall which one I'm thinking of, please point me toward it!

7739822 Exactly my thought. I'm not saying it's necessarily bad that she became a princess but it certainly came out of left field with no indication or inkling that was her future. The look of utter confusion and worry on her face immediately after he ascension really hit me when I re-watched that episode.

Even if she had ascended without immediately being given a completely empty promotion to royalty it would have been better. I just wish they would use the inherent challenges and conflicts of her authority more effectively. More often than not the writers are happy to just ignore the fact that she's a princess.

As for the story you mentioned, I think this is it: Yours Truly by Thanqol

YES! Thank you!

That is the story I was thinking of. From back in 2012. Why was that not in my favorites list?
