E

It is the day of The Summer Sun Celebration. Not just any celebration either, but the one thousandth. Twilight Sparkle, the personal student to Princess Celestia, has been sent to Ponyville where it is being held to make certain everything has been set up and is ready. However, Twilight believes that something bad is about to happen. As the time for sunrise approaches, can Twilight figure out a way to avert disaster?

Well...

This has implications.

Well, I have to say, very good job on this first chapter. It seems like - in this universe, at least - Celestia's letter was the absolute truth and there WAS no impending disaster (other than Twilight's inevitable breakdown) and the Overseer job was just an excuse for her to get out and socialize in an area where nobody would have any pre-conceived judgements based on her past behavior.

Of course, I could be wrong on that. And, at any rate, I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

Maybe Luna's dead. Maybe she was cured when she was banished andso Nightmare Moon isn't a threat. Maybe Twilight did her match wrong and this is the 999th year. Maybe the Elements are counting different

This is... intriguing... Very intriguing.

7489565 Or maybe it's a thousand years per element, and since there were six...

Starting another AU; I think you may have a problem Ink Hoof. Well, I'll follow and see where this goes.

7489768 1) I know I do. I admitted much when I did the second Rainbow Unicorns story. However, 2) this is not going to be the start of another AU. At least for me. The reason why I'll explain after I finish publishing this story.

Ok, I was just joking. I've read all your Rainbow Unicorn and Friendship is Shining stories and I like seeing the characters reimagined in different roles. Keep up the good work.

Celestia lowered the moon too soon, and NMM smacked into the other side of the planet. :trixieshiftright:

7490063 That would be hilarious. A story where Nightmare Moon returns, but ends up in the wrong kingdom, like the zebra lands or something. She then has to make her way to Equestria before fighting Celestia and creating endless night.

7489407 The entire show hinges on twilight being right about NMM...and this throws everything off...

An interesting take.

A very nice end. While some may have been expecting a big epic adventure, I feel this was a good end. As was said in another fic, the adventure was not the important focus, the friendship is.

Hmmm.

Well, this is...

....this is honestly far too short.

7492640 yeah, I agree because well, I don't believe ep 1 Twilight coming out of her shell without an epic adventure

Hey there. Thanks greatly for getting the second (and last chapter) of this AU posted. I have to say, the emotional content, exchanges and wrap-up were all well done in all the right places. And I also liked how well you combined the differences to canon with the similarities. I'll certainly be looking forward to more of your work as soon as time and inspiration will allow.

7492640 Well I don't have any exclusivity over the idea, and don't really plan on doing anything more with it. So, if you -- or anybody for that matter -- want to try their own take on what would happen if Nightmare Moon didn't show up in the pilot, have at it.

So that's it? No explanation as to why NMM didn't appear?

What about Discord later on? Tirek? Sombra? The Crystal Empire? Chrysalis? Any villain who needs to get zapped with the Elements of Harmony, which have yet to be reassigned?

7493258 In my version, none of them show up. That was why I told 7489768 that it was not the start of a new series. All of the big villains -- Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra, and Tirek -- never show up. No big world saving adventures. And the slice of life adventures -- like the parasprites, the gala, and Zecora -- all happen pretty much exactly the same as the series.

And that's what I'm going to keep telling myself.

However, like I said to 7492640 , I don't have any exclusivity to it. So if someone else wants to take the idea and go another way with it, they're free to.

But Twilight never gave up on her dream, and after a few short years devised a means to return Nightmare Moon to Equestria on her own! :pinkiecrazy::rainbowlaugh:

IMO, it was the 10 thousandth year. Right idea, just a little early.

As to their friendship, well, without the Elements & the ordeals that earned them the Mane Six never became that close.

I have no idea what I just did, but I thought out the idea of twilight doing nothing because nothing happens seconds before I read any of the comments or story... Welp.

I wonder why Luna didn't return yet?
