American troops, but a German symbol on the tank?

7352061 All will be explained...(Don't want any spoilers now do we? And the entire convoy is German.)

7352403 Awesome! Can't wait!

Cautiously optimistic about this story, while the setting is great, I'm wary of a few things:
Will the German soldiers simply be 'evil', or will they actually be regarded with an attitude of sonder? The 'Every Nazi is a Nazi and therefore inherently evil' cliché is, excuse my repetition, worn out, and therefore a bit hard for me to subscribe to.
Will the armies be period accurate? I'm trying to figure out if this is a rifle company, or a machine gun company, but the tanks (possibly artillery?) are throwing me off. AJ noticed the Iron Cross, but didn't mention any other emblems adorning the vehicles or flags. Perhaps they're a specialized Brandenburger company? Boy howdy, that would suck for the Allies in Equestria.

Either way, I'm a sucker for anything involving The Good War, so I'll end up reading it anyways.

Only noticed one spelling mistake, grammar was overall good, and the story is easy to follow.
The narrator of the story appears to have a personality, despite being third person; Maybe I confused some of AJ's thoughts as narration?
Regardless!
Keep up the writing GenChaos, I look forward to the world you're creating. '_'7

P.S.
Love the setup, the Hedgerow Battles were a time when getting lost was very, very easy, so its believable that our platoon disappears in the sloping maze that is western France.

7354617 To clear up a few things(though it will be spoiling some things, just a heads up) the Germans are supposed to be a small regiment of Wehrmacht troops, mostly consisting of rifle troops. Mechanized Infantry also rode with the convoy, that explains the half-tracks and kubelwagens. Think of it as a (very)small Combined Arms regiment without mobile field guns and artillery, but I don't want to spoil to much since I have plans to go into further detail in future chapters. In regards to the whole, "All Germans of the time period are evil and kill Jews" cliche is just ignorant, and I have plans for them, but there again, I'm not going to spoil too much. However, there might be one or two SS officers that get thrown into the fray. Would explain the Tiger. Although I can't quite remember if the Wehrmacht Panzer Corps where issued Tiger tanks or Panthers. So yeah, I am glad you enjoyed the prologue! And thanks for the great feedback as well, It is very much appreciated!

I speculate that:
If we assume the units in Equestria were taken from the same general area, I've been unable to find any General Infantry units that would have encountered the forces you described in the Cotentin Peninsula.
However, if they were taken from a larger area (~50 miles), then the Nazis we're dealing with are likely the remaining elements of the 716th Infantry Division, lead by a few Tiger I's from the II SS Panzer Corps. Both suffered massive loses in Operation Overlord and retreated to Caen, where they would have disappeared from.
You say you can't remember which tanks Wehrmacht Panzer were issued, but you mention SS officers in tanks, I can say that, of the units present in the area, only SS Panzer units had Tigers. Wehrmacht Panzer units in the Normandy area received only Panzer II, III, IV and Panther tanks.
I don't know all to much about the German unit organization during the Battle of Normandy, so I had to do some reaserch. Why did I do it? I have no fucking clue, but it was fun!
Also I didn't have to work this weekend, and I needed to do something to pass the time.
If you want to keep things secret, don't correct or deny anything in this post. Who knows maybe I even helped you somehow!

If you can't tell, I'm really excited for this story. :twilightsheepish:

7360441 Heh, thanks for the info, very informative. I did a bit of general research before starting this fic to refresh my memory of the war. So hopefully the basic gist of it will be at least somewhat historically accurate, but, this is a MLP fan fiction after all.:twilightsheepish:

7360633
I DEMAND PERFECT HISTORICAL ACCURACY, DOWN TO THE BOOT SIZE OF EVERY SOLDIER YOU ENLIST IN THIS STORY.
I'm joking of course.
While speculation and nit-picking the fine details are fun, I simply did it out of curiosity. Whether or not the characters in the world you create are perfect representations of what would be found in our history is irrelevant, its your world to shape. I'm quite sure I'll enjoy it however you write it.
Besides, if you didn't plan on using complete, 100% proven, heavily researched facts from the get-go, trying to switch to them now will only make the story harder to write. I know it would take a while as my previous 2 posts were drawn from, and I'm embarrassed to admit it, approximately 10 hours of researching troop movements and battle details.

This is all a drawn out way of agreeing with you. :raritywink:

Exciting action, can't want to find out what's going on!

Well, I'm interested. There are several grammar mistakes, though; you seem to consistently use "where" instead of "were". I'm willing to pre-read, if you're interested.

There's a part of me that expects the poison joke to turn them into the Nazis that we saw in the beginning.

7395142 Yeah~, when I type, I type REALLY fast. And though I usually overlook my chapters before publishing them, it does not help that I was in a rush to finish this chapter since I am going to try and release a chapter every week and I was late on the last chapter from my Internet being down for a few days or so. And thanks for the offer. You can send me a PM if your willing to edit/pre-read my chapters in the future. Glad you are enjoying the story thus far.

Ah. So the Americans may not be speaking English, either.

"Syster, andra vill tala med dig. Ta farväl av den mänskliga." Another similar feminine voice broke the conversation.
"Naturligtvis, ska jag vara med dem inom kort." Echoing Wind responded.

Not sure if it was your intention, but those sentences would translate to "Sister, others wants to talk to you. Say good bye of the mankind (or something like that)." and "Of course, shall I be with them shortly."

Proper sentences would most likely be "Sister, andra will prata med dig. Säg hej då till människorna." and "Naturligtvis, jag kommer snart. (Not neccessarily the most accurate translation, but it means pretty much the same thing.)"

Take it from a native Swede.

7519273 Heh, Well thanks for the tip. I'm no Swede so I had to use google translate and I love the language, that's why I used it. Thanks for your feedback, much thanks. Cheers mate!:moustache:

Hmm, always love a good WWII pony fic.

I guess the Germans have been there at least a nine months to a year for them to have integrated into Equestria already to such a degree.

Can't wait for more

How can not a single one tell that they are Americans the flag is kinda on there uniform

Is this being updated soon?

7649836 School has really been kicking my arse when it comes to writing, but I am hoping future chapters won't take as long to write. It only really took so long for the last chapter to come out because I'm lazy and spent all my free time playing video games rather than doing anything actually productive.

So in short. Have faith, have patience, and I promise you it will pay off.

7650155 acknowledged! Have abgood night!
Devildogg signing off.

7649832 Have no doubt that they have noticed it, that's why they get such a nostalgic feeling when viewing the American's uniforms. They just can't quite remember what it(the flag and the uniforms) mean and represent for reasons that will be revealed later in the story.

(Sorry it took so long to reply.)
Thanks for the question, and thanks for reading. o7

I'm guessing these Germans have been in Equestria since early 1940 (The Invasion of France/subsequent occupation) The reason they don't recognize the American flags is because the U.S. wasn't fighting them at the time when they left. Thus they recognize it but not really remember why, and/or they've tried to put the old world behind them after they gave up trying to return.

Haven't read the fic yet but when I saw this chapter I decided to read it first. Happily awaiting the rewrit before I get started on it

So far this is a good story. Well written and not rushed. I look forward to the next chapters.

7805989 Well, it's currently going under a re-write. But I'm glad you enjoyed it as it is.

Well if the rewrite makes it better. Sweet! I like how you so far did not have the GI's say "Hey look ponies, let all be friends" before you even got half way into ch1. You gave the US GI's a decent Battle of the Bulged mentality too. You also did not make the Germans super Nazis, and over vilify there role. If a rewrite makes this better I can't wait.

Nice to see the rewrite of this is up and going. Liking it so far! :pinkiehappy:

Will Lyra be appearing in this story?

Death's Head...
I'm already looking forward to his demise.

On a lighter note, this military history nut offers his services should you have any questions.

FYI, soldiers tend not to salute when contact with the enemy is likely. Tells the enemy who to aim for.

Also, "defiantly" should be "definitely".

8174239 Oh boy, I can only imagine how she'll take soldiers being the first actual humans she meets.
And I very much hope she doesn't meet the SS bastard first.

8175000 Yeah, damn snipers would take the heads off your company commanders if you weren't careful, I just didn't really put that in there, cause I was in a hurry to post this. Whatever.

I will definitely take you up on that offer. I'm already pretty big on history, and I'm trying to make this fic well-researched and as historically accurate as possible, so If I have any questions on anything I simply can't find in the books or the web, I'll ask. Thanks.

Fixed.

Is Schindler just straight SS or is he part of the 3rd SS Panzer Division? Both used the Death's Head symbol, but the latter was mostly stationed on the Eastern Front around the time the Allies were retaking France.

8178370 The Totenkopf was actually used by the German military all the way back to the days of Prussia, in which it was used as insignia for a hussar regiment. The Totenkopf was also used by the Wehrmacht and the Luffwaffle for it's traditional value, the skull symbolizing ones will to sacrifice yourself for your community, in the case, Germany.

As to what branch Emil came from, that will be revealed in later chapters.

Glad to see the story is still alive

8189351 Yeah, sorry about the wait, mate. Summer's rolling up, so I should have more free time to write.

Compared to a human, how tall are these diamond dogs? Specifically Emil.

Talos From Prey? Just asking about the reference

8220026
They reach just below his nose when he is standing, while sitting they are the same height. They do walk on all fours though, so I’d imagine that they’d be the same height as him on two. Emil has a height of around 6’ 2”. Ponies being up to his waist, Griffons his shoulders, Diamond Dogs to his nose, and Minotaurs about the same height on average, though he has meet taller ones.

8220094
Never played Prey, the Talos was just a random name that popped into my head, like from Talon. Though the god Talos from Elder Scrolls comes to mind, but it was mainly a reference to the claws birds have.

Okay, so Emil's been in Equestria long enough to learn the names of the species and gain a reputation across several cities/towns. And somehow, I sense our pony version of "the master race" is taking him to more of his kind; I doubt she thinks he himself can be of some great use all by himself.
