I still think this is the best of the bunch, honestly
Who da fuq is thumbing them down... Oh wait I know.
Interesting take on the Conversion Bureau series.
I am not a fan of the CB, but I approve of a story like this, where conversion is a personal choice rather than the only way to avoid a horrible death from an encroaching barrier of magic (while avoiding being labeled with a certain controversial m-word)... CB Light, I guess. It's a concept I would not mind seeing expanded, especially once you delve into the social and political ramifications of conversion in 19th century America and how this alters the timeline.
The funny things a limitless stream of gold and other rare metals and gems would do to earths economy.
