After Twilight and her friends manage to catch up to Starlight Glimmer and protect Party Favor and the others from the mad unicorn's attack, Twilight and Starlight's ideologies clash once more. Twilight tried to convince Starlight that their friendship was more genuine than the 'real friendships' Starlight was offering to them but she refused to listen.
In the season 5 premiere she manages to escape and they let her, which came back to bite them. But here, Starlight will learn that there are worse fates than death. Much worse.

That was a wicked chapter. Even though Starlight's reformed it's still amusing to see how many more fics can be made giving her further punishment than what she had.

6932354 That's because Starlight got nothing and Discord, who's done far less damage than what Starlight could have done, gets not even a sideways glance from the Mane 6 and it cost them in "Twilight's Kingdom". And worse, the Mane 6 learned nothing from that, as proven in "Make New Friends, But Keep Discord" and to some extent "What About Discord?" Friendship is hypocrisy. I'll bet G1 was better. Now come at me bronies and feed me your rage!

Actually, Discord and Luna were the whole damn point.
Luna felt back for the evil she'd done alright... and that guilt resulted in the birth of the Tantabus because she bottled up her unhealthy desire for punishment (over, and over, and over, NEVER WANTING to forget her sins).
Discord, in spite of him torturing ponies and driving countless other ponies insane, no one thought it was good idea to make as many ponies an ENDEARMENT towards as possible. Because Fluttershy was the ONLY ONE willing to give the fiend a friend, and ONLY Fluttershy, this resulted in Discord's fits of jealous and possessiveness with her, and that Tirek had exactly ONE THREAD he needed to cut to string Discord along.
In short, the mane six have VERY MUCH learned from their mistakes.
And seriously? In this verse? She'll come back as a ghost, a lich, or have a daughter who will want bloody revenge on the mane six, because that's how this sort of narrative universe WORKS if that happened to her.
The mane six realized that banishing or turning her to stone would eventually come back to bite them in the rear, so they did the only thing they could, and forced Starlight Glimmer to make friends with DIFFERENT KINDS of ponies.
Because seriously, the inane ad hominem "exposed the hypocrite" argument used to defeated the Equalist movement left me going, "OH COME ON!" A friend had a MUCH BETTER idea that one of the mane six get their mark back or fake losing it or similar, and take a page out of Glimmer's play book, hiding it, and reveals it ONLY AFTER being a perfectly supportive member of the community and not lording their superiority over others or making anyone else feel inferior.

If you ask me what Starlight did was unforgivable and even if she is reformed she deserves punishments like this!
Interesting story. But far from flawless nonetheless.
Thus, with Starlight gone, the Crystal Empire will be forever buried in enchanted snow, along with Crystal Ponies who choose not to leave; Trixie Lulamoon will never find an understanding friend and will not know the value of having one; and no one will stop Queen Chrysalis from taking over Equestria by kidnapping the Main Six, Celestia, Luna, and all who are heroes or important figures to the country, as well as anyone capable of standing in her way.
May the goodness of Equestria rest in peace.

I wrote it just after the season 5 finale so I wasn't aware those events would happen.
And many years later she had learned to fight without her horn and returned to take revenge for her cruel mutilation.
Then she destroyed what Chrysalis and the Storm King had left of Equestria.
Thank you for nothing, Twilight.
Would you be interested in making any sequels to this story?
It seems to leave open a number of possibilities for what the price of Twilight’s mistake could be.
And Equestria is completely screwed since she will no longer be able to save it from the changelings along with Trixie and Discord.
