Little Jackie Papercut

E

When "Rara" Coloratura returns to the big city where she once lived, she just happens to have some spare time. This leads her to an encounter with another showmare at the top of her game.

The two make a deal, and quickly become friends. One day, during a friendly little chat, Trixie asks Rara about something that's been bothering her.

The answer reminds her about something important.

Heh, cute.

As a Weird Al fan, I approve of the Albuquerque reference. Well played.

Hhhhmmm not exactly what I can call bad, but I just expected a bit more.

Curious story. Definitely high quality in its execution: properly written, true to character, and acknowledging overall show development and character growth. (So many stories feel like they're stuck in second season or something.) Bonus points for acknowledging minor comic-canon characters, as well.

However, it ends just as quickly as it starts. The initial premise (Trixie and Rara find a fellow performer in each other, and team up for mutual benefit) works perfectly as a fun short, building an interesting headcanon that perhaps future stories can be written from. But then they discover that they both have love interests in Ponyville (which also came about very suddenly and was a bit jarring) and they set out to snare them and Cheese shows up out of nowhere, and suddenly it feels like just the prologue to a bigger story.

So. Very good story, but it feels like I came in for a snack and instead got an appetizer that made me really hungry.
