Outlaw Quadrant

An author, occasional artist and critic all rolled into one! I may never grace the front page in my lifetime but if you're looking for something on the lighter side, you've come to the right place!

E

Youth is a convenient excuse for mistakes made in the past. Many wouldn't spend the time to reflect and simply continue on with their lives, satisfied that they have learned their lessons.

With Silver Spoon, not so much. After years away from Ponyville, she comes to the realization that the only way to move forward is to go back and deal with a chapter of her life she'd much rather forget.

Beautiful~

This is from Silver Spoon's point of view, isn't it? I ask because Sweetie keeps calling her Diamond Tiara over the course of the story.

6489685 You are correct. I did another check and found out I twice had Sweetie refer to Tiara instead of Silver Spoon. Not sure why I did that but it's been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out!

6493683 I wanted a nice balance between past and present although I also thought the flashbacks were more interesting overall.

I'm guilty of trying too hard being "cute" with my phrasing. A lot of times, it works but I'll have my clunkers that make little sense in retrospect.

With the spacing, it's a technique I do like to use. For the referenced passage, that might have been a late addition so I didn't think about going that route.

Appreciate the comments!

Yeah a few mistakes here and there. I just had to point this out.

“I’m so sorry, Diamond Tiara.

(Oops.)

6502394 Here, I thought I caught all of those mistakes. Self-editing isn't a strength of mine.

It's been fixed now. Don't be afraid to point out anything else.

6503631 Alright then.

said Sweetie Bell,

“So, are you here to see Diamond Tiara,” Sweet Belle asked.

In my eagerness, though, I let it slip out that when the ponies in Canterlot had asked me about my time at Ponyville,

any other answer other than this one.

Repeating yourself.

6505435 Much appreciated! I've corrected each one.

This story really pulls me back into reality.

Sometimes, reading a lot of MLP stories can have that "pink-fog" effect on my mind: actually believing that friendship is magic, we are all gonna' be happy, our relations with other people will last forever and so on... Real life, of course, is way more grim. Your story reminded me of the friends I lost while growing up. Some grew apart because of distance, and some because we each changed too much... Well, yeah. You kinda' summarized my feelings with Spoon's thoughts. We all learned a lot from them, and the memories are all we need.

It would be interesting to see Tiara's train of thoughts too. Do you picture herself as the same brat, or do you believe she have changed as well? (without relation to the newest episode)

Nice to see you are trying something different, though. I would really like to read more shorts from you.

Also, the first comment to this story has been made by an antlered snow-pony, who from now on I am completely in love with.

6531186 Tiara has changed, certainly, but how is something I decided to leave up to interpretation.

Personally, I would say Tiara has integrated herself more into high society. She spends much of her time attending various fancy social gatherings. It's what she wanted and yet, Tiara feels this life is full of burdensome obligations and she doesn't care much for the high class ponies that are supposed to be her friends. Maybe one day, Tiara will turn a leaf similar to Silver Spoon but she's not there yet. It's certainly possible that Tiara knows Silver Spoon has changed for the better and decides not to pull her back into her life since it may corrupt her.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Once I finish Brayside Crush, I intend to do mostly short stories.

I don't know. Some people are made for those fancy social gatherings. They may like it and still be good people. Take Fancypants for example - I don't think he was ever portrayed as a bad character. I can imagine a future where Tiara is where she should be, and where she feels the most complete.

I don't think it is neccessary for Tiara to change her most basic individuality - she should only lose her trait of looking down on everypony else, and handling them like horseshit. Even her big ego does not correlate with "bad personality" - think about Rainbow Dash.

6533837 Interesting you bring up Fancy Pants. I feel the way he's been used since his debut has put him under a more negative light, but I digress.

If the elite are like how they're portrayed within the show, I find it difficult to imagine a grown up Tiara enjoying her elite status while shedding her negative tendencies without some major influence. Filfthy Rich and Fancy Pants possibly but probably not Tiara's mom.

In the end, I decided it would be more interesting to use an intermediary to leave some questions unanswered.
