Moose Mage

Hello there, friends. I've long admired the artistic branch of the Brony community, so I decided, "You know what? I'm sure no one will mind if I contribute something myself." Let the adventure begin.

“Life isn’t so long. I need to make enough time for everyone I love.”

For all his life, Flim’s only real family was his brother. His only real home was the road. And his only real love was his craft.
And now, Flim sees a chance for a life beyond one long trek in a covered wagon. He must decide what he wants.

This is really brilliant. It kind of read like a stage play due to the quick dialogue, and yet... *sigh* I really can grok where both of them are coming from. I have a twin and a little brother, and I know that sometimes it's the words you don't say that mean the most. The hint of darkness with Flam's illness was a nice touch, and this is definitely something I could re-read. Mind if I recommend it to people?

Go right ahead. I've read all of this guy's other work, and even his most successful story is shamefully underviewed and underrated.

But... why?? Did he do something horrific in a past life?

In a word, yes. But I wouldn't dream of shocking you with the details. Well, actually... I don't suppose you recall that whole assassination-of-Caesar debacle?
I've said too much.
Thanks a million for the kind words, friends - in all honesty, I'm not too bothered by low story views. Really, a few supportive comments like these are enough to make me giddy for weeks.

So I read the first chapter... days ago. No real complaints, though this hasn't endeared me to the Flim Flam Brothers or fiction about them either - not even a little. This is roughly on par with the quality of your other stories (though I like some of your stories more than others; I will say that). I do have two questions though. One, how much did you study those two episodes to get the brothers just right, particularly in speech mannerisms? And two, how many chapters are you anticipating for a story like this (assuming you're at a place where you can divulge anything about where this might go)?

Thanks, Phazon; I'm glad this story seems to be at par for you so far. As for the vernacular, I certainly made sure to sit down and watch both of the Flim Flam episodes before I started writing. But oddly enough, my main method of diving into these old-timey speech patterns was to revisit an old childhood favorite of mine, The Music Man. Harold Hill's fingerprints really are all over Flim and Flam, and luckily, since I've known Music Man for so long, I'm feeling pretty comfortable experimenting with this American-turn-of-the-century language (though I'm trying not to lay it on too thick).
I'd be happy to tell you how many chapters are left; just two more, which I want to try and have released by the end of October.
