I thought this was hot. No idea why you got the downvotes.

I appear to have gotten a downvote spammer somewhere.

Their misery sustains me.

Great read, hope a few salty downvotes don't keep anyone away

I think these downvotes come from people who like coco but don't like to see her downgraded to worshiping rarity.
Me? I think Rarity wouldn't really do this...unless she got the habit of pranking from dash or pinkie and even then it wouldn't be that cruel.

I'd normally cover this in my commentary but I'm not done with that yet. Here we go.

It's an understandable sentiment, but one I must dismiss after looking at the Similar section to the right. It's been a long tradition of making Coco submissive to Rarity. Now I will concede that I don't believe anyone's taken their relationship in the same direction I did here but I hardly call it downgraded considering the pool I've jumped into. You should have seen the sheer amount of clop and claptrap I had to wade through just to find a reasonably appropriate image of Coco.

However, recall that what's going on is being filtered through Coco and thusly relayed to readers. It's hero worship. That's not always considered a healthy thing and I deliberately did not answer that question because such assertions are best left to readers and not writers (to enforce), in my opinion. I brought his story concept to my pal Softy's desk.

[9/11/2015 10:03:44 PM] Softy8088: I mean, it's not the devotion in itself that bothers me.
[9/11/2015 10:03:46 PM] Journeyman: That is kind of what I am going for. Rarity actually likes Coco, but that's the kind of vibe I want because Coco is going to be biased when it comes to Rarity.

Coco likes Rarity, and Rarity likes Coco, but there is a very clear power dynamic at work. I wanted a relationship that could very easily be considered abusive, but at the moment both parties consent. The two issues at hand are Rarity doing this to Coco, and, more subtly, Coco not being able to get over her own hero worship of Rarity. Coco even outright states that she it didn't even occur to her to refuse Rarity, and she's not sure why. This is continually enforced with Coco's terminology: she keeps referring to Rarity in terms like 'mistress' and 'goddess'. It was all very deliberate.

The issue for Coco becomes not if she's comfortable with what's going on, but that because it's Rarity, it is therefore okay.

[9/11/2015 9:56:34 PM] Journeyman: What are your views on submissive devotion? I've got a Marshmallow Coco story in mind and I'm pondering Coco psychologically. Right now I've got it in my head that she's devoted to Rarity to such an extent that she'd do just about anything for her. Not in a loving sense, but in a sense that Coco views Rarity as being unable to be morally wrong. For example, suppose Rarity was in a serious relationship and Rarity expressed interest in Coco, sexual, romantic, or otherwise. Coco wouldn't question the moral implications of it just because it's Rarity suggesting it.

It's possible to be ripe for abuse, but that's not what I'm interested in; it's entirely from Coco's perspective and is therefore very biased. I just want to leave that fearful, lingering question of "What if?" in the back of reader's minds when a girl finds satisfaction in a perfectly healthy relationship. It just so happens she will not question Rarity no matter what.

[9/11/2015 10:01:28 PM] Softy8088: Hm
[9/11/2015 10:02:02 PM] Softy8088: Oddly I think what you're describing is my exact problem with Twilestia fics.
[9/11/2015 10:02:38 PM] Softy8088: Like, I don't see that kind of relationship as healthy.

It's along the same lines of past years seeing BDSM or hell, sexually explicit cartoon ponies, as debauchery. There's that lingering thread of an uncomfortable relationship. I can Word of God right now Rarity didn't force Coco into it if that's what concerns you, but that lingering doubt in your head was exactly what I wanted. I expected some people to miss it. It's different, but it's a healthy sexual relationship. Even when confronted by Rarity at the end of the chapter, she doesn't resist her in the slightest. She trusts Rarity to be kind enough to her. In traditional BDSM relationships (sexual or otherwise), something I used to make their power dynamic, the one who holds the power isn't the dominant, it's the submissive. On the sub's command things start, things stop. Their word is law. The dom lays out the scene, but it's the sub that controls when it starts and stops. Otherwise BDSM, especially bondage is going to be awful. I quote:

"... that's part of the art of being a bottom: communicating clearly to your top, while still letting them feel like they're guiding things."

It's about trust. There is a very real potential problem in this relationship, you are correct, but it's not whether Rarity would do this or that Coco would accept it. Because Coco is seeing Rarity, in this story, in such a fanatical light, she might misjudge certain things that may be potentially harmful. Even if Rarity does have good intentions, which I will outright state she does, she can still make mistakes. That psychopathy that Rarity will never willingly hurt Coco is the biggest danger of the situation: Rarity is still fallible and all it takes is one accident. Her own devotion to Rarity clouds her judgement.

However I will admit I did make one very big mistake. I made a note for myself before bed to add more during Coco's recollection that Rarity was expressing romantic interest in her despite her being a doormat because it was, back to that same point, Rarity, and she shouldn't have interest in her. I went into my last round of editing before publishing, but completely spaced putting that in. I meant to do so to give the relationship a little more validity rather than making it sound like Rarity immediately jumped her bones.

This lesson in BDSM is brought to you by Journeyman Industries.

Coco needs more love in general.
Thanks for doing your part you beautiful son of a bitch.

This was good.

Please let there be a sequal. :fluttershysad:

It's not like Rarity orders Coco to have her way with Spike only something that crazy will break her.

I do have something in mind. Rarity did mention she'd see Coco again later that night after all.

6455207 :raritystarry: Awesome! And if it wasn't implied i really enjoyed reading this story

Mind break is one of the few things I will explicitly not do in fanfiction. The only corollary to this if it's a result of some extenuating circumstance like those that commonly appear in the horror genre (sanity shattering hellbeasts need love too). I don't find it believable or relatively tasteful, and my apologies to those who have a soft spot for it. I will not nor will I ever do mind break romance or clop.

As for the Spike angle, I have no concrete plans to introduce him in any future installments, but I left that option open in case I have a change of heart and am struck with a reasonable idea. I can still go either way. Should I indeed produce a sequel where Coco and Rarity meet up later that night like she promises, I'm leaning towards him staying out of it, or at least having a very passive role.

Well I thank you for enjoying it. I'm still very new to clop and my sea legs are a little shaky, but I'm putting a few notches in the belt.

6451733
I've built up a thick enough skin; this is my third official dalliance in clop. And just like Abyss, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

If the reaction is positive enough as the days go by, I might be convinced to follow this one up with a sequel.

I don't think "tepid" means what you think it does.

6459895
Mildly warm, last time I checked.

...And still true according to webster. That's why English is stupid sometimes. Some words have different meanings, some the opposite of others. In this case, one neutral, one negative.

Ups come with their downs. Life to her feels constantly pleasant, and not dull or making her want to have hot sweaty love children with her idol. Like, the exact opposite of what I'm going to be feeling at work in eight hours with a boss that makes me want to stick a knife in my ear just so I can stop listening to her.

I liked it. I like exbitonism and I think Coco's worship of Rarity and shy personality make for a fun combo. The only thing that bothers me is the same thing that's bothering Coco. What's up with Spike and Rarity's relationship? I'm a big Sparity person so having the question there and never getting the answer, well it kills me a little. Solid story, but damn it I want to know!
