There is actually a very logical explanation for such.
From Chapter I:
Thus, it became obvious it her to "pay attention to the clitoris". Like most people (or in this case human-like ponies) this knowledge tends to come from experimentation.
Once that piece of information is known, it doesn't take much logistical power to put two and two together to get: Clit + Clit = Pleasure for all, plus the added benefit of being able to make out with your partner. Also note that it was Sweetie Belle who initiated, not Scootaloo who probably would not have thought of such a thing.
It's important to note that they do not have a name or explanation for these things, simply feelings. As for if and when they do learn the specifics... well we haven't gotten there yet.
Hmm, at first I wasn't sure I could see Twilight as someone who would be interested in foals, but it kind of works. I mean, she knows Sweetie well, she knows how mature and intelligent she is. Twilight obviously wouldn't do this sort of thing with any random innocent foal, so I guess this is okay. The part near the end where Sweetie describes Rarity's flavor, that was priceless.
