The point I'm trying to make here is that writers shouldn't assume that prospective readers watch/read/listen to the same things they do. It's fine if you want to write for a niche audience, but don't make the assumption that something is universal when it isn't. "Everybody knows who X is!" Um, no. No, they don't.
