I knew there was something I meant to do today.

Since you've deliberately left the summary vague I guess I gotta hide spoilers for every comment.

So, all we know so far is:

1) David is in another reality. He has at least two sets of conflicting memories.
2) A reality he had been in had no Equestrian Resistance (either because it was immediately put down or great propaganda)
3) Because of the lack of resistance, David has basically had open season on everypony he's seen, and has apparently killed a ton of them. Possibly all of them in another reality.
4) David is without Excalibur but has access to magic and immunity to the ponification serum.
5) David had the manes (kill marks) of all six of the Elements of Harmony.
6) The reality he finds himself in not only has an Equestrian Resistance, it also has the Elements of Harmony still around, and on the Resistance's side.
7) He is unsure who is supposed to be alive and dead.
8) Sam is alive. I assume this is the same dude who in the prologue of the original AoA was David's best friend prior to becoming the avatar and was turned into a Pegasus that David put down (that scene really didn't sit well with me but that was supposed to be the point I guess). It's tragic because it's only later did he gain the ability to fix the minds of the converted and to also turn others immune to the serum. Hey, I guess he gets a chance to undo that this time.

In (possibly over-brief) reply to a well thought out analysis:

1) Yup.
2) Also yup. The consequences of that are part of his back history, and there are already hints to what happened to him in AOA (as well as other work, some of it not mine).
3) Also yup - again, already hints in AOA.
4) Without as of yet. Otherwise yup.
5) Yup.
6) Yup.
7) Yup.
8) This is the same dude, yup. I'm curious as to why the scene in AOA didn't sit well with you: to be honest, that's one of the things I'm gonna touch up in the rewrite of AOA, mainly because Sam is under-developed.

Just the whole losing his best friend thing and having to put him down (especially since had he lived he may have been cured). Such is the price of war and it was a necessary building block for Elliot, but it still left me with bad taste in my mouth. I'm a sucker for a happy story and that part definitely wasn't happy at all.

True there. That part, I fear, will not be changed at all. Still, if it makes you feel better there are happier stories ahead in AOA. Maybe not in this AOA but still...

sweet work, from all the the anti bureau fics i have read spectrum the one from dalek and this one are my favorites

...Audible gasp I didn't fave this? WHYYYY

5689567 I totally agree, and not just because I've written for two of those.

The Avatar appears. Always a happy sight.

So, I'm guessing that Constantine did not survive in this world? I'm still trying to make out what is going on with that David and this world, especially the sections at the beginning.

Constantine is in Scotland. As for the rest... well, it'll either make sense when it happens or you'll think I'm crazy.

If I had to guess, Sparkle switched sides upon seeing a vision of the Avatar annihilating her kind, possibly from her counterpart's perspective, though possibly not the context behind his actions. But as to why, I can only speculate. It has to be related as to why her spell chose David.

5732545
It's a good guess, and you've got some bits close, but no. I'm glad to be writing something that provokes so much speculation though :-)

So... from what I can tell, David has memories of at least two different realities. One similar to the canon AoA, except no resistance fighters in either reality. Or am I misreading this?

In this chapter, we see memories of Elliot in his "home" dimension - the trick is, he has got conflicting memories - more than two - for reasons that will eventually make sense. All the memories in this chapter are from the same timeline, though.

A thousand times I have killed you and killed you and killed you again.

I... huh. An interesting idea, has the fight between Solamina and The Avatar happened before? Over and over again, in fact? Is the Avatar of Albion some kind of time looping entity, or reality jumping rather? Forever fighting his counterpart until he absorbs it and then restarting the loop to see how the war changes? I'm not sure how one can even interpret this idea. Wherever Solamina is, so the Avatar will also be eventually.

This Twilight Sparkle is cursed to remember all other possible lives, and so is this Albion. Yet they too have one "main" life, Captain Sparkle for this one, and the monster of Albion that Sam and Small Mercy saw. Both of them saw the "Heart of the World", which is what enables them to see all other possibilities...?

I guess the big question is how Twilight Sparkle saw the Heart of the World in this version of the world. We know how the Avatar saw his.

I'm guessing this story is about to conclude next chapter? Possibly the chapter afterwards.

Mr Elliot!” Small Mercy said, sitting up from where she was near him.

I had a flashback of Sam here. "Mr. Frodo!"
