A Stern Lesson

Royal Guard Sterner Stuff, a seasoned guard, is one of many guards at the Grand Galloping Gala the year following the one that Twilight and her friends wrecked. It's a practice run for the upcoming wedding between Princess Cadance and Shining Armor. Things take an interesting turn for Sterner Stuff when he meets a beautiful pegasus, but the night doesn't end there.

So were both mares the same? I kind of expected that would be the case, but I can't figure out what that last line is meant to be about.

Thanks for the comment. Nope, the mares were different. Think of the changeling as a bit of a distraction from Sterner reuniting with the mare he danced with; a sort of interfering with fate character. Regarding the last line, I think you are reading too much into it: Sterner is simply starting to tell her about where he'd been since the galloping gala.

'Funny story: I was kidnapped by a changeling and held prisoner in my own house while Equestria nearly fell' isn't exactly a great line to end a story on.

To be fair, I'm one of the downvotes on this story. I threw it together in about four hours for a contest; I didn't even have a chance to proofread the thing before I hit the submit button. In my opinion, it's kind of a piece of crap. I could go back and polish it up (give it a central theme, drive the characters a little better), but I'm not sure if it's even worth it.

Shoot, I didn't even make a cover image for it.
