I just wish Dash would turn down the 'I'm so awesome stuff'.  She's full of pride and known to pet herself on the back in front of others, but she doesn't boast till the cows come home.  Many authors seem to write Rainbow Dash in this way, and I think they are exaggerating.  Other than that, you've written Rainbow Dash pretty good in this first chapter.

I hope the second story was a little better in the Dash=awesome department. I'll be keeping what you said in mind, the "I'm so awesome" is a cheap way to characterize Dash, and should probably be used sparingly.

However, I'll warn you that I'm writing the third one now, and it takes place after "Sonic Rainboom." So Dash is going to be (understandably) high off her win, heroics, and day with the Wonderbolts. Don't give up on me for that one, Dash will calm down in the future.

Y'know, I don't really think RD's reaction is really out of character. We gotta remember that she does have hella insecure moments at times and something like this would probably a large load off her shoulders. Hell, I'd say that the phrase "I'm awesome" for her, while undeniably true, is almost as much a defense mechanism, somewhat.

That's more or less what I was thinking. Dash is often a big ball of insecurity with a cocky grin pasted on. She has a lot of respect for AJ, so for AJ to agree to go out with her is proof in Dash's mind that Dash is awesome. And she's always happy to latch onto that proof.

Interestingly, I think there's a pretty good argument that Applejack has a much bigger ego then Dash (Applebuck Season, The Last Round Up, and Super Speedy etc. . .) She doesn't crow as loud, but she expects way more of herself.

Thank you! Part of that is the format, it's hard to have too much angst when next episode they're supposed to be back to normal, but part is that I refuse to make AJ and Dash woobies* in general. Fluttershy is designated woobie on this show, tyvm. Everyone else can discuss their problems like semi-normal ponies.

Update speed is prone to change, but this style of story (one scene, lots of dialogue) is the easiest for me to write, so I shouldn't lag too much. If I start to slow down a lot, feel free to poke me! I don't mind!

I'm glad you're enjoying it! Shipping fic isn't for everyone, and like anything else there are as many different styles as there are authors. For me, it's really important to keep up the dynamics of the friendship even with the relationship forming, but that's just because that's how it is for me IRL. Dash's ego tends to go up and down, depending on the situation. She's especially insufferable in the third chapter, having just come off of her win and heroics in Sonic Rainboom. But in most of the rest of the chapters she only uses it to tease Applejack, or occasionally to reassure herself about how great she is (because I think I discussed before that Dash's ego is mostly insecurity, while AJ's is waaay more actual pride.)

Yay! Another wonderful couple of chapters. Personally, I think Dash's friends should have talked to her about her boasting problem before they made her publicly humiliate herself (they had to know how she would react to a challenge). I liked the episode, but it rubbed me the wrong way, seeing as Mare-do-well was a bit of a hypocrite, showing up to the appreciation parade and everything. Anywho, rant over, keep up the awesome writing, you're definitely one of my fave Appledash writers

I don't know. I mean, she should have been furious, but one of the things they did was hit her right in her insecurities. They left her alone and forgotten, which is pretty much Dash's greatest fear. So the way I see it, when she found out it was her friends she couldn't be mad at them without risking losing the ponies she was closest to. That makes what her friends did even worse, but it also makes her reaction understandable. You know, if you want to psycho-analyse ponies. (And who doesn't, really!? )

I at least tried to give AJ a legit reason to have been willing to do that, by tying the fight from my story "Playing it Cool" to the "Immortilized as my friend" "kiss." In my stories canon, even if Dash didn't realize how she was acting in terms of ego, she knew exactly how Applejack felt about keeping their relationship private.

I still very impressed, it seems each chapter is getting better and better. Its not over the top romance, and it seems real(I may have said that before, oh well) just one question, are you going to end it or are you planning on just continuing with the third season?

That's okay, I've said thank you before, and I'll say it again.

As far as season three, there are a couple of variables. I may or may not be into it, I might be working on a different project by then, and I have other fandoms and original fiction writing that grabs my interest sometimes. If I am interested, the progress will have to be a lot slower. I'd have to have an episode or two of lag, so that I know if one fic has to lead into the next episode, and I'd have to work with whatever episodes come up, or risk taking two or more weeks between stories (I obviously skip a lot of episodes where AJ and Dash don't have big roles, or where I can't really think of how it would impact their relationship.)

So that's a definite maybe! But I do have ideas for other projects in the mean time.

Ahhh I see a set up happening here. Almost as if it was foreshadowing an up coming chapter!
