It's fanfiction all the way down.

T

Sometimes I start things and don't finish them. Probably because I'm a terrible person. As a result, my Google Drive is full of half-finished ponyfics.

This story is a collection of those fics.

Chapters (24)
Comments ( 151 )

I wish cutie mark class was actually a thing, and the CMC get their permission slips in the mail two years late. :applecry:

Ooooh, this seems like an uber interesting concept! :rainbowderp:

That Cherilee impression was pretty hilarious. And similar to other characters or not, I really wish I could get more of this guy(or girl? Changelings seem pretty genderfluid by nature and this has seemed mostly first person so I may have missed an errant "he" or "she")

Again, liking this story more and more. Shame it's just snippets of what could have been. Thanks for posting it though! I'd much rather have these nice little fragments than them not existing at all.

Though I totally wouldn't object to you picking this up again later. nudge nudge, wink wink :derpytongue2:

Well shit...that is indeed a tragedy.:ajsleepy:

Dayum, well *I* feel sorry for him, pretty complicated life he has there.
Also is the Siren song universe like this? Because the world in this story sounds like something I can wrap my head around, and I'd enjoy reading more of it that is the case.

I read your blog post earlier and wished it could be a real story.

I'm so happy right now.

I don't have time to read this now, but onto the list it goes. :)

Le me listening drinking : PHRTHTHTHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT:rainbowlaugh:!!!

You're a horrible person.

5268534

It was! But yeah, Double Take and Siren Song just felt way too similar.

5268567

Double Take is a he, but he doesn't get all worked up about sex. As established in part 3. So he'll have no problems turning into a mare.

5268584

Ha ha ha. I might. It was a cool concept, and I can rework Double Take's voice to be more original. But first, I actually have another book to finish.

5268647

Why yes! Yes it is. If you like corrupt cops, oppressive propaganda, and lonely protagonists just trying to keep their heads above water then come on down to Siren Song's house of ponyfic. Because we got lots of that.

5268669

Eeee.

One day, I will write a draft of Swiftwing Has a Nice Day that I actually like. This version... well. It isn't bad. But the structure needs a lot of work, and more importantly, it fundamentally fails to achieve the goal I set out to achieve. The point of SHAND as a story is to show Vision from the point of view of an average pony just trying to get through life in our favorite undersea dystopia. And while the Swiftwing in that draft may not be heroic, she isn't average either. It really bugged me during the review phase and I ended up putting the draft down.

Well then I'll read Siren song (based on your other comment/recommendation).

Also good luck with that other book. I'll hold onto the vague ember of hope in the back of my brain for more Double :raritywink:
I knew I followed you for a reason :rainbowwild:
Also thanks for responding to all my comments. I usually like to comment in bulk, but seeing as these ideas were really separate I felt the need to comment on them all XD;

5269038

I hope you enjoy it! The book is actually the sequel to Siren Song, called Daring Do. It's very good but very hard to write.

Also, about comments... come closer. There's something I need to tell you.

Writers eat comments to survive.

This needs more.
End Of Line.

:pinkiegasp: T-this changes everything. I need to comment more now ._.

Also awesome! Hopefully Siren's Song goes well, and I'll have a sequel to look forward to! :yay:

Oh Feather Brain, you know why he had those deformities, don't you?

Is what I would have said if I didn't realize that the answer was in his name a second before I hit "Add Comment". Pony does awful things to me sometimes.

I'm glad this finally got posted. I was wondering when you'd publish this and the next one.

5269287

Yay. I'm glad someone got the mystery.

First part is great. Just needs more.

Twilight, when you wink with two eyes, it just looks like you're blinking really hard.

Hm. I'm not really seeing Double Take as too much like any of your other protagonists. I suppose I could be missing something, but... yeah, while I wouldn't want you to feel like you had to write something you didn't want to, I'd like to see this developed into a full story. It's quite interesting, I think.

What lazyreader19 said. I mean, it has a somewhat happy ending in that Amaryllis is likely a mostly benevolent ruler of the world, but still.

5280162

Yup!

The final scene of the story was going to be a band of pony heroes breaking into her fortress to end her reign of terror. She captures them, but when the time comes for them to die, she has a change of heart and lets them go free.

Good god, Cadance. :twilightoops:

Hope you'll continue that story some day.

Pfft, regardless of the size of the plotholes, this is hilarious.

Definitely an interesting idea, though I see what you mean about him seeming similar to other ideas.

It's interesting to see the ponies from this POV and this guy definitely has a lot more going on than he shows. I find it slightly confusing to follow that he seems to have these flashes of showing the deeper plan and then covering it up though, so I dunno if I'd enjoy this.

I'm not sure if he sounds too much like other characters, I'd need to reread them and be looking for it I think, but this definitely sounds like it'd go down some dark pathways.

I can see the story bits being difficult. I think it might be difficult to portray Cadance as so suspicious and distrustful. It really seems like after so much time she would've eased a bit on her feelings.

Having yet to venture to reading the related fic, I'm sure a lot of this went over my head. This was still an interesting read though the fact that they mention he was dehydrated and hadn't eaten in several days was mentioned and then immediately dropped felt a bit odd for me. I realize this is mostly meant to be a medical examiner's report but it seemed to include more than would be expected for a simple report. It sort of felt more like a brief case summary. Though I freely admit I'm not experienced in such things. It came across as at first a simple coroner's report and then spread to include case notes and commentary which seemed unusual.

Still a solid piece and a fascinating bit of insight into a character.

I think you might be biased in my favor, but um... thanks. :twilightblush: I love it when people leave detailed and thoughtful comments like these. It's really nice to know that these stories had potential after all.

Swiftwing Has a Nice Day is the one I'm most determined to finish. It had the right atmosphere, but I was never quite happy with it.

How will this being canon interact with it in its final form?

And finished. Even if you think it wasn't up to Vision's usual standards, I still think it's good. :)

5280198
…Sigh. We'll, I'm glad I decided to skim the comments manually. Why is it that the notification system sometimes works fine and sometimes doesn't work at all?
Anyway, on the actual subject of your reply, would the story just have an open-ended ending there? The natural question, it seems to me, is "And what did the heroes do after they were released?", so…

This messes up some of my presumed Siren Song timelines, if it indeed takes place in 1045 (assuming the show's first season is 1000).

“Lie,” Celestia said.

Hips don't lie, Princess.

Oh, and Cadance? Try not to date any stallions on your way through the parking lot. :trollestia:

5334423

Woah, woah! That is baseless slander!

Cadence is married now. She can only see other stallions with Shining Armor's permission. And, you know, it's important for married couples to share their interests.

Twi: :twilightoops:

I'll second what the others are saying. I like this story and I'd like to see more of it.

I'm kinda confused on what happened, though it's been a while since I read Siren Song, so I don't remember all the lore regarding it. Was Chain Link an escapee? A precursor to what happens in the story? I really don't get how or why these events occurred.

5373577

Chain Link was an escapee who came back to Equestria, ran out of mantles, and then died of withdraw.

I really enjoyed watching Double Take interact with ponies and explain the analysis and reasons behind doing so. I really got into the example of a "word game" between Double Take and Twilight Sparkle to the point where I felt disappointed when the text suddenly stopped. I was having fun and was engaged with and interested in what was transpiring. Thank you for sharing this.

Seriously, just mark it as comedy and random, forgoe plot hole worry

I dunno, I'm not really seeing the similarity to Siren Song so far :-/

Whoa, this needs to be a series. Or if it is,I need to be linked to it posthaste! I've only ever watched my friend play skyrim a little, and yet this was surprisingly easy to get into!

Quite awesome, Twimanimarco.
