A New World, a Fearful Way

ch. 38 recovery

Matrix had come back that night without any new news. He had been unable to find Specter anywhere in the town. Angela had told Matrix about what she had learned yesterday about Rage Spell.

“She sounds kind of like Ire. Imagine if those two teamed up.” Linoone said the next morning, trying to lighten everyone’s mood. “They might just take each other down instead.”

“We should still spend some more time searching for Lea.” Angela stated as she finished her breakfast. “While we shouldn’t have Ben going out from they way he’s been acting recently, Sparks got over whatever he was sick with last night, so he’ll be going with Ziggs to look for Lea.”

“Wait! My son is not going out there!”

“Well we need all the help we need and the doctors don’t want you running around looking for Lea. Besides, he’s been cooped up in here for a while now. Ziggs needs to go outside.”

“I can come too!”

The group turned their heads to see Midnight helping Caddi down the stairs.

“Caddi,” Matrix started. “No offense, but you still need to rest.”

“No! I’m fine! See?!” She screwed up he face before her changed into what looked like a changeling version of Kiwi Lime. “Okay… maybe you’re right.”

“I can still help you guys look.” Midnight told them.

“No, we want you to make sure Caddi doesn’t leave mayor.” Angela replied with a slight grin.

“Who told you that?!” Midnight exclaimed.

“He did.” Matrix pointed to Quarry who was asleep, still tied to the chair.”

“How does he sleep like that?” Caddi asked.

“Blissey used sing to get him to fall asleep.” Linoone explained. “You should have seen the looks Mightyena was giving us when she did that.”

“Still… I’m not officially mayor. Besides, Iron Guardian will be healthy enough to return to those duties be tomorrow anyway.”

“Woah woah woah! Did you actually say his name?!” Matrix asked.

“He likes to be called the chief when we talk about him doing his policing duties. We only say his regular name when referring to him as the mayor.”

“Can we focus on the import facts here?! Lea’s still missing, a random pokemon is trying to find a dangerous unicorn, and I still don’t have a piano!” Everyone turned their heads slowly to look at Kya. “I’m not stopping ‘til I get my piano! Now… ESCAPE!”

Kya ran from the room, running into the door frame once before actually leaving.

“All in favor of not letting her leave?” Angela asked.

“AYE!” The group unanimously chose.

“Motion carried.”

“What are you doing?” Blissey asked when she found Kya sulking at a table.

“Being sad.”

“Why are you sad? Or is it just the obvious reason.”

“Well, I do miss my mommy, but I also feel that no one thinks I can do anything cuz I’m broken.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Ever since I tried to help in that battle, I’ve been trying to help around here, but I just seem to be messing up because everything keeps moving around and nothing’s where it should be. Angela told me that’s cuz my eye doesn’t want to work anymore.” Kya explained

“Well I think eventually you’ll find a way to fix it. Is that all?” Blissey inquired.

“I also haven’t been able to sleep very well that recently. I think it’s because I haven’t had a Moonbeam song in a while.”

“Moonbeam song?”

“Well, ‘pparently my granma and granpa liked to sing this lullaby when she had trouble sleeping, so when I have the same problem, Mommy would do the same thing.”

“Well wouldn’t Linoone know it since you said your grandpa sang it to your mom.”

“He can never remember it all.”

“Do either of the others know?”

“I’m pretty sure Angela might, but she doesn’t like to sing. And Matrix just can’t.” Kya gave a little shudder.

‘Reminder: Never make Matrix sing. Ever!’ Blissey thought to herself. “Well maybe I can still help cheer you up. I’ve got a few things to do that would be quicker with someone else to help.”

The flames on Kya’s back end lit up. “That sounds nice! In fact, anything to do sounds nice right now! What do we hafta do?”

“Let me see…”

“I could have been there.” A fist hit a hanging pillow. “I should have been there.” The pillow was hit again. “It was my fault.” Once more. “It was all my fault!” This time the the pillow was kicked, and not just once, but twice.

The rope holding the pillow from the ceiling unraveled, letting it fly across the room. Ben walked over and retrieved it. He grabbed the rope and tied the pillow back up. “Double Kick… I know Double Kick now. Now wasn’t then. Then could have helped.” Ben mumbled to himself.

He started punching the pillow again, adding in more kicks than before. Everytime, he hit the pillow a little harder than the last time. Finally, the rope gave way again. This time, it was flung against the door of the room Ben has shut himself in. A second later, the door opened from Caddi entering.

“So… did you hear they’re not letting you back to look for Lea.”

“What?! But they need all the help they can get. We need all the help we can get.”

“Woah! Hey, I’m not allowed out either, and neither is Midnight. I think somepony got to a phone and called Citrus, so she’s helping and we’ve also still got a few guards helping look. Believe me, we’re going to find her eventually.”

“But how soon is eventually? Ever since I learned she was taken, I’ve just been feeling like… like…”

“Like every single time you find something small to be happy about, you can’t let it be happy?” Ben looked at her with amazement. “Eh, it’s something some changelings can do. The changelings who can are normally the ones who are around ponies more often. We feed on love, but eventually we get a feel for other emotions as well. Currently, you’re crushed because you couldn’t help the pony, well… pokemon, you love.”

“I don’t love, love her if that’s what you me-”

“Shhhhh…” Caddi held he hoof up to his face, followed by her poking him all over the place. “Where’s the mouth on this thing?”

Ben slapped her hoof away. “Okay, maybe I have a crush on her! That still isn’t helping that much.”

“You seem calmer.”

“Why? Are your feeling senses telling you that too?”

“No. The little spring like areas on your arms became less tense after you admitted your crush on Lea. Something is telling me that once you take a chance to calm down, you might actually be able to help instead of staying stuck in here punching stuff.”

“Well I‘m not really in a calm mood. How do you suggest I calm down?”

“You could always try sleeping.”

Before Ben could speak any opposing ideas, Caddi called out of the room. “Blissey! I have something you can help with!”

Before long, Ben was asleep on the ground while the pokemon and changeling gave the closest thing to a high five as they could.

okay, someone asked for more, so here it is
oh btw, i found pokemon crystal online so i've been playing it alot recently
my team has Kya, who recently evolved into typhlosion (only because i want her to be able to learn swift) Vincent who's a kadabra (some of you might know what i'm referencing here) Rocky who's an onix that i traded in game for (name and all) Nyo my poliwhirl (Nyo is apparently japanese for poli or something like that) Zuma who's a shiny pichu, and Pri who is my very newly evolved togetic.
oh and i just have like two or three badges left
