ch. 37 search

Matrix and Angela were running down the streets. After searching for about an hour, they had caught wind that a hitmonlee had been seen recently, and from the description of how it was acting along with one pony mentioning that it was wearing an armband, the two easily deduced that it had to be Ben.

Eventually they found him. He had been quite a distance from the center almost to the point of being at the exact opposite side of town. At first they were excited because of who he was with. They had found him talking to an umbreon.

Before they could reach the two of them, the umbreon tried attacking Ben. Though it seemed to purposely miss him the first time, when he still tried to get near them, the umbreon attacked again, this time aiming for him.

“Woah woah hey! Break it up! What’s going on?”

“Do either of you know this pokemon?”

“Yeah, why?” Matrix asked.

“You need to do something about him. He apparently can’t comprehend that there’s more than one female umbreon in the world.”

Angela facepawed. “What did Ben do?”

“Well at first, I heard him calling out the name Lea. I presumed he was trying to catch the attention of someone else until he grabbed me and distinctly called me that. I told him he had the wrong pokemon and told him to look elsewhere, but he insisted. Then I presume you saw me try to use an attack to convince him to leave. When he still persisted, I attacked again, aiming to hit him, but you two came and interviened.”

“Ben! what do you have to say for yourself?!” Angela yelled at him.

“I thought it was her… a-and when she talked, she sounded like Lea too…”

“You’re delusional! you’re just hearing what you want to hear.” The umbreon said.

“Well he is right.” Matrix spoke up. “You do have similar voices. You even have a similar scent. But other than that, you have a different personality and obvious don’t recognise any of us. Besides, I don’t think Ire would just put Lea back on the streets alone for us to find, or let her go so she could find us. I’m sorry for the trouble we caused.”

“It’s fine.” The umbreon told him. “Just promise you won’t let this happen again. I’ve got enough on to deal with right now.”

“Fine, we promise.” Angela said. “But maybe we can help with whatever you’re having problems with.”

“I’m looking for a unicorn mare. She goes by the name of Rage Spell.”

“Sorry, I don’t think I’ve heard of her. But maybe she’ll turn up at our poke center.”

“You run a poke center?” Umbreon said, lifting an eyebrow.

“Well, sort of.” Matrix told her. “It’s as close as we can get right now. You’re welcome to come and stay there while you look for this unicorn.”

The umbreon looked like she was about to accept, but then she glanced at Ben.

“Sorry, but if he’s going to be there, I’d rather not.”

“Well then, sorry we couldn’t be of any help. I’ll take Ben back home Angela. You should stay out and look for Lea.”

“Got it. Have a nice day Umbreon.”

“You too… I guess.”

Angela had tried looking everywhere she could think someone, or somepony, might hide. She even thought about looking some places that they were less likely to be. Eventually, she just ended up going to visit Bluegrass’ store.

Angela was greeted at the door by Bellossom. “Hi there! Welcome to Bluegrass’ Gardening Store! Can I help you?”

“Yeah, uh, do you know if she’s around?”

“Yes, she is. Let me get her.”

Angela could hear Bellossom talking to Bluegrass in the back before the pony herself walked out.

“Ah heard there was a customer who wanted mah- Oh! Angela, It’s you! Have ya found Lea yet?”

“Not yet.” Angela sighed. “All we found was a different umbreon who was angry at Ben trying to persist that she was Lea.”

“That doesn’t sound good.”

“It wasn’t, but we then agreed to help the umbreon find a mare she’s looking for.”

“What’s the mare’s name?” Bluegrass asked as she started to water some nearby plants.”

“I think it was something like Anger Spell or Fury Spell or maybe…”

“Rage Spell.” Bluegrass said as she dropped her watering can.

“Yeah! That was it! Bu- what’s wrong.”

“How can she know ‘bout Rage Spell? How can any of y’all know ‘bout her at all?”

“Why do you mean?”

“She disappeared years ago. She was a unicorn who would get angry easily and use her magic when that happened. Normally ponies ended up hurt. Then one day, she just vanished. No nearby town had seen her show up, so many just presumed she died. Most ponies just refuse to talk about her either because they forgot about her, or want to.”

“Well then, it seems someone is trying to find her again.”

“This is all your fault!” Ire yelled at Grumpig.

“You’re the one who wanted to do this to that umbreon.”

“Well, I didn’t want to have her escape! And she got out on your watch!”

“She won’t be able to find her friends. I’ll even bet that they’ve already seen her and don’t know it.”

“With their luck they did find her already and fixed her! Where’s Quarry?! I need him for something.”

“He’s gone.”

Ire spun around to look at Grumpig. “What do you mean he’s gone?! Gone where?!”

“He was a traitor. Last I checked, he was off to where Lea was living.”

Ire’s eyes widened. “He’ll tell them everything! About what we planned! They’ll just find that umbreon quicker!”

“He won’t. He can’t remember.” Grumpig gave a small shrug. “I got rid of his memories of the plan.”

The next second, Grumpig found herself pinned to the wall with Ire’s magic. “YOU WHAT?!”

“He was a threat.”

“HE… WAS… MY… HUSBAND!!!” Ire yelled, blasting Grumpig with a large bolt of magic at the end of her sentence.

When Grumpig recovered, she raised one arm as her pearls and eyes started to glow. However, before grumpig could do anything else, Ire blasted her again. “Don’t you dare try anything with my mind now too.” Then Ire’s eyes widened again. “Y-you used your powers to convince me to finish with Lea this morning! I didn’t want to do it in the end but you got me to do it anyway! You’ve been running the show since the start!”

Grumpig gave a low chuckle. “No, you were in control at the start, I just lived up to my title and tricked you into believing you never lost it.”

With that, Grumpig used an attack on Ire and escaped. leaving the unicorn to call after her. “I will find you again! And this time, I’ll be in control of you!”

“What’s he doing here?!” Ben asked when he saw Quarry in the tied up chair.

“Believe it or not, he came to tell us some helpful information about Ire and Grumpig.”

“Yeah right. If that were true, why is he still tied up”

“Okay, one, I can hear you!” Quarry said. “And two, I asked to be left tied up. Grumpig used some mind control on me before, why not do it again?”

“Mind control? Yeah right!” Ben rolled his eyes.

“Actually…” Matrix started. “Angela actually confirmed he was being at least partially controlled by Grumpig.”

“I’m still not trusting him.”

“That’s fine with me. But hey, can you check and see how Mightyena is doing and make sure he isn’t up to something?”

“You brought your pokemon here?!” Ben yelled before he ran off.

“So what have you been doing while we’ve been gone. Other than sitting around of course.”

Quarry gave a small laugh. “Not much, but while you’ve been gone, I thought of something else that might help you.”

“What would that be?”

“Grumpig had recently ‘enlisted’ the help of an earth stallion. I think he went by the name Specter.”

“That would explain why he was acting so strangely last time he came here.”

“He might know something I wouldn’t, so you might want to try and find him to see what he knows.”

“I’ll go do that. Can I trust you to tell Angela where I’m going.”

“I wouldn’t…”

“Then I am!” Matrix said with a large grin before he left the building.
