Equestria is dead. Using massive weapons of utter destruction, the Caribou have killed all but a handful of ponies, including Princess Twilight. But leaving the Princess of Magic alive was folly. After all, love conquers all. Even death.

Reminds me of the connection the Forsaken and Blood Elves have in World of Warcraft in a way.
This... Is... AWESOME! (To quote an, also awesome, pegasus.)
Ponyville prepares for WAR!
The description of the imperial knights reminds me of the fire nation troops from the Avatar the Last Airbender series...
Riddle me this: Where the hell is Discord? Given all that has happened, the unreformed version should have broken out and started causing chaos while the reformed version should have been at least helping them.
That scene with Rainbow and Spitfire, how sexy was that! Damn I said that about something else last chapter didn't I? Now I just sound like a broken record. I am curious as to why everyone seems to think that Spitfire would create a burst of fire instead of rainbows if she broke the sound barrier. The physics of the thing wouldn't be any different no matter what pony broke that speed, in other words, no matter who does it it'll still be a Sonic Rainboom. I could explain further why I think that, but I don't wish to bore anyone reading this.
I really want to see what Sweetie Belle can do, her voice must do something impressive if she carries no weapons.
4962150 I wondered that too, I can't help but think the Caribou found some way to incapitate him.

Given that Luna and Celestia apparently got turned into something between statues and semi-public sex-toys (Ew, by the way ) to lock them down, I guess it isn't totally impossible.
Awesome job taking down that airship Rainbow and Spitfire! Do I spy Ditzy/Twilight? I feel ya Applejack, I hope the Caribou are brought down too, and soon, and peace restored.

Maybe he's being a cunning bastard and waiting for his chance to strike.
Or he's playing the Caribou from the inside (how else would they successfully nullify Celestia and Luna into their predicament, since we know Discord is fully capable of doing so if he is bothered enough) and is planning on betraying them before they betray him.
4962488 or he's trapped as well. i mean, the caribou managed to trap celestia and luna, all without anythings help (supposedly), so maybe they got to him before he broke out?
Applejack of all ponies becoming a Countess is sort of funny (although it makes sense, what with the Apples pretty much making Ponyville in the first place) What happened to Granny Smith? Did she die of natural causes before Ponyville was massacred, was her body just too decrepit (even repaired to the before-death level--old is sort of hard to cure), could they not find the body, did she just flat-out not want to come back, or was there not enough left of her to animate?
Anyways, I very much like the chapter and everything we've learned in it. The Caribou are getting suspicious, but the pony military is already getting properly equipped. It also looks like the pegasus cities have made some technological progress of their own in the last 20 years. The promise of the battles to come is exciting. It's great to know that the public morale is still an important focus even with the massive war preparations, and we got a good grasp on how long the story has taken up to this point.
I figured the Sonic Rainboom would have military uses--it almost always does--but it's still great to see it blow up an airship. Also good to see that the undead can survive explosions. Although Spitfire managing to pull off the Rainboom is a surprise... did she figure that out while she was still alive, or is she capable of it now because of her powerful, magic-infused undead body? If the second, could any of the other pegasi possibly learn it?
Has Twilight gone and raised any more pony cities/towns? Also, how integrated are the bat-ponies in this story? One showed up in Trixie's band, but I somehow managed to completely avoid thinking about them after that. Did they die in pony cities along with everypony else, or did they have their own towns that were destroyed? Or that were hidden well enough in the mountains and caves to have avoided the Caribou's attention?
the first fall of equestria that isn't horrible

I'm not sure if they'd be able to trap Discord. He's more powerful than Celestia and Luna combined (why else would they need the Elements to imprison him?), and if he were imprisoned, I would expect him to escape shortly due to, well, chaos coming back and boosting his power.
Really great keep up the good work
Epic.

Silly Caribou, Humans Learned over 70 Years ago that Hydrogen is FAR TOO DANGEROUS for use in Airships; thanks to a little German Zeppelin called Hindenburg
This kinda seems like a mix of a 'It's all gonna be OK everypony' feeling and Fallout Equestria. Can't stop grinning - but that could be due to sleep deprivation...
I like that the ultimate goal here is to eventually return everyone to true living, breathing ponies again.

I have to agree with that sentiment. Its quite the goal...and Twilight could make it happen, so long as she doesnt lose her path in this task.
I like this story a lot, and that is why I had to point this out...
I noticed you repeat the same word in the same sentence in many of your descriptions. I wouldn't have said anything except this happened more than a couple times this chapter. Try mixing it up a bit.
Keep up the great story.

Rainbooms are apparently Magic + Speed.
So stuff happens.

Oh hey, you're here too.
I really have to say, letting the living ponies fight is a really bad idea.
Had to revisit this masterpiece for a 3rd read, it's a keeper...

I’m on my second read right now.
