We didn't start the fire.

This story is a sequel to I'm sorry, Sis: Scootaloo

Rarity is not having a very good day. First, her sister Sweetie Belle gets involved in a fire at Sweet Apple Acres with the other Cutie Mark Crusaders, spoiling Rarity's plans to spend time with Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Deciding to return Sweetie to their parents, Rarity makes a new plan for the evening.

What Rarity doesn't seem to realize is that she may be letting her anger get the best of her. As she continues to rage and blame Sweetie Belle for everything that goes wrong, the simple truth behind the whole sequence of events continues to elude her, and she is set on course to making a terrible mistake.

Hah. Skeeter, I beat you to it.

Knowing the author sure helps.

Can't wait to read this:pinkiehappy:

Well... I think this was... nice. It was a decent fic, but it lacked the emotion and oomph that ISS:Scootaloo had.

The emotions and descriptions were all over the place to me. The pyrophobia felt like a Deus Ex Machina to somehow make Sweetie the victim in the story. She still almost burned herself and her friends to death, but gets scot free cos... she's afraid of fire? Newsflash: everyone is afraid of fire if they're trapped in a burning building. I hated Rarity's parents with a passion, because they didn't care about Sweetie at all. I almost thought they were drunk or something. But the pyrophobia? I really can't bring myself to accept that as a thing in the story. If Sweetie was afraid of fire, she wouldn't have gone with the plan to set the CMC clubhouse on fire. She also put her friends and herself into mortal danger. Of course she was scared. Just like Scoots and AB were. They got punished too for the same exact thing.

But Sweetie is afraid of fire. Does that mean she doesn't deserve to be punished? I know that this fic doesn't need to end in a spanking like ISS:Scoots, but now it felt like there were no repercussions to what Sweetie did. If anything, now it felt like Sweetie was the good guy and Rarity was the bad one that needed to be punished. Even her CAT kept dissing her for it. Does this mean that RD was wrong in spanking Scootaloo? Because hey, she was in a fire too and was really scared. Hay, if the fic had ended with just a "You're still grounded for a week, little missy" "Oaaww... fiiiine." it would have been far better. Sweetie even says she deserves to be punished.

What I really didn't like was Sweetie Belle herself. She acted like a grumpy teenager, not like a schoolfilly. She was abusive. She tried to cajole Rarity into no telling their parents. She knew she wouldn't probably get into trouble with her parents. She manipulated her mother by her cutesy wutesy act and when she didn't get punsihed, she GLOATED to Rarity. If anything, this fic made me feel sorry for Rarity for having such an asshole of a sister. I couldn't help but think that even in the end, Sweetie was just crying crocodile tears to manipulate Rarity even more.

The fic had good stuff in it too, but out of the ISS series I found this by far the weakest. The narrative felt clumsy and sometimes tried to be 'artsy' with no payoff. I don't agree on the way several characters acted or even spoke. These are all only my opinions, but if this wasn't written by a friend, I'm not sure if I would have upvoted or just abstained. Sorry.

"You wouldn't understand me, since it's not like you give a damn anyway."

OOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! we got ourselves some back talk!:pinkiegasp:

>TFW inb4 Skeeter, but still not first comment

3688842 I think we've discussed most of your points already. She is not, however, getting off scot free. It'll be addressed in the epilogue. No, she doesn't need to be spanked, it's an inappropriate punishment for this particular event. I've gotta disagree on Sweetie Belle being something of an antagonist, but she was certainly very sour with Rarity (and for good reason).

Will we see another sequel with Applejack's side?

3688732 3689027

Well, that's what Skeeter gets for having the audacity to leave the FIMFic homepage.

3688961 To quote The Guy From Boston, 'SHE DESERVES A BACK HANDER!'

3689088 Absolutely. It's already been written, but the first draft has some major issues, so the whole thing is probably gonna be rewritten once I have the chance. I'm expecting it to be the strongest of the three fics, by far.

3689097

Strongest? Because of the strength of their sistership, is it?

3689106 Strength of their relationship, of Applejack's convictions, of their family, etc.

3689107

Nice. Hope you won't disappoint.

This was good. I never read any ISS stories you did before, but afterwards went back to ISS:Scootaloo. And almost cried.

Anyways, this story didn't have as much feeling as scootaloo. Still really good, but not as good as Scoots' and RD's connection.

Stay Awesome

RDD

3689113 I'll deliver as best as I can.

Doesn't need to read to know that he is going to love and fave this

3689321 Thanks! Warm and fuzzies are besties.

Like I said, I didn't need to read this to know I was going to love it...and I was right. This was heartwarming, sweet and very nice. I admit to tearing up at points while I was also enjoying the Sweetie Belle and Rarity moments

Wellp, that epilogue pretty much changed this whole fic to a clear upvote for me. Just wish it had been there from the start cos that's what the story needed.

In my opinion ofc.

3689483 'course it's your opinion. Who else would it belong to? :P

But I'm glad you liked it.

We need to have a fic someday following the events of this fic. And Either Rares becoming the legal guardian for Sweetie Belle and being a good one for her rather than Negligent, utterly indifferent ponies who don't care about her. Or get their parents to give the same level of care for Sweetie Belle that Rares was given.

This epilogue appeared as I was reading the first chapter.

While this one didn't have the same emotional punch that ISS: Scootaloo did, I still very much enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of the pyrophobia though. It was just sort of...there. Like, it appeared out of left field with no real set up.I kinda wish you had found some other way to pull off the non-corporal punishment theme of the fic.

I still enjoyed this fic though. I enjoyed the contrast to ISS: Scootaloo and liked that this one ended with a non-corporal punishment instead of a spanking. Both forms of punishment can be effective if used correctly.

Looking forward to ISS: Applebloom.

Well this is the good. Not as good as Scoots's story, but still excellent. I think probably because ISS: Scoots had more emotionally weight to it.

The tone here is different, I guess, due to the difference in the relationship. I do think the epilogue saved it. Not sure why it's tacked on as a separate chapter, but whatever.

I have a feeling Apple Bloom's punishment is going to be much like Scootaloo's

So.....no punishment? Just the lingering of possibilities? Rarity, never have foals of your own.

Beautiful story. I think Rarity dropped the ball in lacking a proper punishment of Sweetie Belle, but hey...next time there's a fire, she'll be ready to dispense the proper sentence.:raritystarry:

Okay...read the epilogue...three weeks grounding is most satisfactory. Rarity gets my parenting seal of approval. :duck:

Finally it's out! On ward to reading it:moustache:

*After reading it*
I love it so much!:scootangel:

Rarity!!! How could you hurt your own little sister?!? :twilightangry2: Poor Sweetie Belle. She's... She's just a little puppy! :applecry::fluttercry::pinkiesad2::raritycry:
I didn't expect Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents to be so understanding. :rainbowhuh:
Oh, well. At least Rarity got to meet Fancy Pants. Right? :trixieshiftright:
Man... Never thought I'd see Opal take Sweetie Belle's side. :ajsmug:
I'm glad Rarity stopped herself from making a big mistake. Otherwise, she'd have been as brutal to Sweetie Belle as the Joker was to Jason Todd:

3697191

Yes indeed. Though, if ya ask me, the 'understanding'ness from Rarity's parents is probably a greater harm to Sweetie Belle than anything else. Indifference is very harmful to a child :unsuresweetie:

Aw... Too bad for the grounding, Sweetie Belle. Still, you're as cute as ever.

3697202

I was a bit unclear on something. Is it "understanding" on their part, or just indifference? Or a bit of both?

Also, I agree with this sentiment. One of my parents was "understanding", and after a certain age I was never punished for anything. In the long run, that didn't work out too well for me.

3698131

Could be a bit of both, but indifference is really what I was shooting for. Nothing happened to Sweetie Belle, so her mother shrugged off the entire thing. Magnum showed more unease about the whole situation, but he follows his wife.

Sweetie Belle... I'm pretty sure I can remember her displaying signs of a fear of fire in her youth. How could I have forgotten?

Funny, that's exactly what I was terrified of for the longest time. This Sweetie Belle probably got it from setting a kitchen on fire, right?

3703369

Sweetie, set a kitchen on fire?

Surely not!

3699436

Okay then. That's certainly how it comes across. They seem as if they just don't care that much.

Well, in any case, awesome story! I also loved ISS: Scootaloo. I'm eagerly awaiting the Applebloom story!

Amazingness. I fully agree with rarity on this. A spanking wouldn't seem right here but punishment was in order. Im really looking forward to ISS: Apple Bloom

Edit: This story was very good. Major feels.
This story is an accomplishment. Keep writing. You are getting better, and you were already very, very talented.

:flutterrage:HOW COULD RARITY SLAP AND GROUND SWEETIE'S ADORABLE FACE AFTER TREATING HER LIKE DIRT RIGHT AFTER SWEETIE GOT OUT OF A TERRIFYING FIRE! WHAT MAKES IT WORSE IS THAT SWEETIE IS TERRIFIED OF FIRE SO SHE ALREADY LEARNT HER LESSON RARITY SAID SO!!!

Okay now I'm done. I also hate Sweetie's parents now. Sweetie is an adorible, innocent, fluffy, marshmellow pony, and Fluttershy and Pinkie's partner in breaking universal laws by bing to adorible :pinkiehappy: :yay: :unsuresweetie:

I have to admit that Rarity has been growing on me for sometime now and I must say... bravo... this was almost as good as the first it was a terrific read and was touching in more than one way. I hope everything starts to go better for you and I can't wait to see more.

Thanks so much. Glad you liked it. Rarity's always been a fave of mine.

Very nice, a solid emotional and rational counterpoint to the preceding two companion pieces. Good job.:raritywink:

4067023 It's nothing official in the show or comics or whatever, I think, but I did know that I'd be facing the headcanon that they're married sooner or later. I choose to believe she's an... 'associate'.

3959443 Thanks! Just gotta do the third and final chapter, now.
