4158801 Good thought. The spell actually had a matrix that is closed in itself. Once active, it has only a certain ammount of ernegy before running out of proverbial juice and undoing itself. Once it is on and running, there are no means for spells on the same thaumaturgical level or below to elongate its duration. Only higher tier magic would do be able to do that. Call it a precaution.
