Chapter 1

Dark clouds formed in the night sky and loomed over the town of Ponyville as the Pegasus filly Scootaloo walks down the cold, lonely, and quiet streets. She wanted to make it back to the clubhouse before it started to rain. She didn't want to sleep there tonight, but Sweetie Belle was off with her parents and Applebloom was in Appleoosa with Applejack and the rest of her family for the week. She had no other choice but to spend another night alone.

Scootaloo could see the clubhouse in the distance as she felt drops of rain hit her nose.

"Please don't start raining yet, I'm almost there." She begged as she looked up into the clouds.

The rain however began to pour down hard on the town and the sky was then lit up by a flash of white lightning and powerful crack of thunder. Scootaloo yelped in terror and began running to the sanctuary of the clubhouse. She has always had a fear of thunder and Lightning. she never knew why it scared her, she was a Pegasus and she figured she shouldn't be afraid of such a silly thing as Thunder and Lightning. However she was scared of it ever since she was a foal. Back then she always had someone by her side to comfort her during the storm, but now she has no one beside her.

When she finally arrived at the clubhouse, she burst through the and shook herself dry now that she was protected from the wet. She lit a small lantern she kept on a nearby table and gave the clubhouse a nice small glow. She then went over to the corner of the room and opened up her saddlebags she kept there. She took a small picture of her being held by a mare and a stallion.

"I miss you, mom and dad," Scootaloo said as tears form in her eyes as her voice began to get louder and louder and the tears flowed even more. "You said you would always be there for me, WHY AREN'T YOU HERE NOW!?"

Scootaloo brought her head into the ground and wailed as she pounded the ground with her hoof. Unbeknownst to her a familiar cyan Pegasus mare was flying over and had seen her through the window. The mare immediately flew to the clubhouse and went inside. She saw the filly laying on the ground crying and called out to her.

"Scootaloo!"

Scootaloo immediately recognized the voice and quickly regained her composure.

"R-Rainbow Dash! W-what are you doing out here?" Scootaloo asked curiously but nervously

Rainbow went over to her and said, "Well I was on my way back to my house, but the better question is why are you out here alone, in the middle of a storm?"

Scootaloo gulped and began to rub the back of her neck. She didn't want any one know why she was out here especially her idol and surrogate older sister. She began to sweat a little bit as she tried to come up with a lie.

"Oh well I was just here so I could try to think of some crusading ideas to do when Applebloom and Sweetie Belle came back." She said while wearing a grin on her face and chuckling nervously.

Rainbow Dash however wasn't buying it, not for a second. She raised an eyebrow at the filly and gave her a look of disapproval.

"Scootaloo, I know your lying to me, and lying is not cool." Rainbow set in a soft yet stern tone of voice. "Now tell me the truth, why are you out here? Why aren't you at home, your parents have got to be worried sick."

Scootaloo immediately tensed up when she heard the word parents. Rainbow noticed this and stepped a little closer to her.

"Come on, Scootaloo tell me why your out here all alone." She said softly hoping the filly would talk to her.

Scootaloo tensed even more when she heard the words all alone. She shook her head violently not wanting to tell Rainbow the truth. She tried to keep her composure as hard as she could, even though she was ready to break down and cry once more.

Rainbow couldn't help but feel worried that the little filly was hiding something from her. She could tell she wanted to cry but she didn't know why. Using her wing to gently rub the little filly's back, Rainbow talked to her as gently as possible.

"Scootaloo, listen to me, I told you that I would be your big sister figure. But being that big sister figure means that I have to help you when you need it. I can't help you if won't tell me whats wrong. So please, tell me whats wrong, let me help you."

Scootaloo was amazed that normally tough Pegasus mare she looked up to was talking as gently as she was. She didn't know what to say to it. Her voice sounded so soft and caring right now just like her mother and fathers voice. Her soft and gentle side made Scootaloo tremble before the emotional wall she was building since Rainbow arrived was completely destroyed. She wrapped her forelegs around Rainbow's waist and cried out the painful truth of why she was out here alone.

"My parents are dead Rainbow Dash! They were flying home one day from Manehatten when a storm came and killed them. I've been sleeping out here ever since. I sometimes sleep at Sweetie Belle and Applebloom's houses but most of the time I'm out here all alone."

Scootaloo buried her head in Rainbow's soft chest fur and let her tears flow free. She pounded on the cyan mare's chest with her hoof as Rainbow sat there wide eyed and jaw hanging open. She couldn't believe what she was just told, but based on how Scootaloo's acting right now it was the honest truth. Snapping back to reality Rainbow looked down at the still crying filly. She said nothing and wrapped her forelegs and gently rubbed up and down her back with one of her hooves. She figured it was best to let Scootaloo let it all out right now before going any further into the subject.

After five minutes of crying Scootaloo finally took her head out of Rainbow's chest fur. She looked up up and saw her surrogate older sister giving her the gentlest of smiles. She returned the smile with a small one of her own. Rainbow gently rubbed Scootaloo's back with her wing as she began to speak once more.

"Scootaloo, why didn't you tell anypony about your parents. More importantly, why didn't you tell me?" She asked as gently as possible.

Scootaloo looked down in shame and said, "because I was scared to tell anypony, I didn't tell you because I didn't know what you would say."

Rainbow nodded her head in understanding, and couldn't help but feel sad for the little filly. She didn't show it but she was actually very upset and hurt as well. She was very close with Scootaloo's parents. When she was a filly and her own mother and father were busy, Scootaloo's parents would foalsit her. They would feed her, play with her, and they even helped her fly. When she was ever sad or missed her own parent's when they were away, they were there to cheer her up. They were the most kind and caring people she had ever known and she considered them her second family.

"Rainbow Dash, are you alright?" Scootaloo asked breaking rainbow out of memories and back to reality.

"Huh, oh yeah, I'm fine," Rainbow said quickly "So how long have you been out here?"

Scootaloo looked down sadly as tears began to formed in her eyes once more. However she quickly brushed them away with her hoof before speaking.

"Three weeks," She said sadly as a combination of thunder and lightning erupted in the sky. Scootaloo yelped in terror and held rainbow tightly.

Rainbow gently rubbed Scootaloo's back with her wind and said softly, "Easy, kiddo, It's just the storm. Come on, I'll let you stay at my house tonight and we'll talk more in the morning."

A huge smile grew on Scootaloo's face as tears formed in her eyes once more.

"Really, I can stay with you tonight?" She asked happily.

"Don't tell me you thought I would just leave you here by yourself in this kind of weather." Rainbow said with a smile on her face.

Scootaloo immediately hugged Rainbow's waist once again as she let her tears flow freely.

"Oh, thank you, Rainbow Dash! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She cried happily as Rainbow wrapped a foreleg around small body.

"Your welcome, Scoots'," Rainbow said happily "grab your stuff and let's get going."

Scootaloo grabbed her saddlebags and put her picture of parents back inside. She closed the bags and put them on her back before going over to Rainbow who bent down to let her get onto her back. Once Scootaloo was on her back, Rainbow blew out the candle in the lantern before going over over to the door and spreading her wings.

"Hang on tight, kiddo." She said to the filly on her back. She took to the air and began the journey home as Scootaloo held onto her neck.
