Dark clouds formed in the night sky and loomed over the town of Ponyville as the Pegasus filly Scootaloo walks down the cold, lonely, and quiet streets. She wanted to make it back to the clubhouse before it started to rain. She didn't want to sleep there tonight, but Sweetie Belle was off with her parents and Applebloom was in Appleoosa with Applejack and the rest of her family for the week. She had no other choice but to spend another night alone.

Scootaloo could see the clubhouse in the distance as she felt drops of rain hit her nose.

"Please don't start raining yet, I'm almost there." She begged as she looked up into the clouds.

The rain however began to pour down hard on the town and the sky was then lit up by a flash of white lightning and powerful crack of thunder. Scootaloo yelped in terror and began running to the sanctuary of the clubhouse. She has always had a fear of thunder and Lightning. she never knew why it scared her, she was a Pegasus and she figured she shouldn't be afraid of such a silly thing as Thunder and Lightning. However she was scared of it ever since she was a foal. Back then she always had someone by her side to comfort her during the storm, but now she has no one beside her.

When she finally arrived at the clubhouse, she burst through the and shook herself dry now that she was protected from the wet. She lit a small lantern she kept on a nearby table and gave the clubhouse a nice small glow. She then went over to the corner of the room and opened up her saddlebags she kept there. She took a small picture of her being held by a mare and a stallion.

"I miss you, mom and dad," Scootaloo said as tears form in her eyes as her voice began to get louder and louder and the tears flowed even more. "You said you would always be there for me, WHY AREN'T YOU HERE NOW!?"

Scootaloo brought her head into the ground and wailed as she pounded the ground with her hoof. Unbeknownst to her a familiar cyan Pegasus mare was flying over and had seen her through the window. The mare immediately flew to the clubhouse and went inside. She saw the filly laying on the ground crying and called out to her.

"Scootaloo!"

Scootaloo immediately recognized the voice and quickly regained her composure.

"R-Rainbow Dash! W-what are you doing out here?" Scootaloo asked curiously but nervously

Rainbow went over to her and said, "Well I was on my way back to my house, but the better question is why are you out here alone, in the middle of a storm?"

Scootaloo gulped and began to rub the back of her neck. She didn't want any one know why she was out here especially her idol and surrogate older sister. She began to sweat a little bit as she tried to come up with a lie.

"Oh well I was just here so I could try to think of some crusading ideas to do when Applebloom and Sweetie Belle came back." She said while wearing a grin on her face and chuckling nervously.

Rainbow Dash however wasn't buying it, not for a second. She raised an eyebrow at the filly and gave her a look of disapproval.

"Scootaloo, I know your lying to me, and lying is not cool." Rainbow set in a soft yet stern tone of voice. "Now tell me the truth, why are you out here? Why aren't you at home, your parents have got to be worried sick."

Scootaloo immediately tensed up when she heard the word parents. Rainbow noticed this and stepped a little closer to her.

"Come on, Scootaloo tell me why your out here all alone." She said softly hoping the filly would talk to her.

Scootaloo tensed even more when she heard the words all alone. She shook her head violently not wanting to tell Rainbow the truth. She tried to keep her composure as hard as she could, even though she was ready to break down and cry once more.

Rainbow couldn't help but feel worried that the little filly was hiding something from her. She could tell she wanted to cry but she didn't know why. Using her wing to gently rub the little filly's back, Rainbow talked to her as gently as possible.

"Scootaloo, listen to me, I told you that I would be your big sister figure. But being that big sister figure means that I have to help you when you need it. I can't help you if won't tell me whats wrong. So please, tell me whats wrong, let me help you."

Scootaloo was amazed that normally tough Pegasus mare she looked up to was talking as gently as she was. She didn't know what to say to it. Her voice sounded so soft and caring right now just like her mother and fathers voice. Her soft and gentle side made Scootaloo tremble before the emotional wall she was building since Rainbow arrived was completely destroyed. She wrapped her forelegs around Rainbow's waist and cried out the painful truth of why she was out here alone.

"My parents are dead Rainbow Dash! They were flying home one day from Manehatten when a storm came and killed them. I've been sleeping out here ever since. I sometimes sleep at Sweetie Belle and Applebloom's houses but most of the time I'm out here all alone."

Scootaloo buried her head in Rainbow's soft chest fur and let her tears flow free. She pounded on the cyan mare's chest with her hoof as Rainbow sat there wide eyed and jaw hanging open. She couldn't believe what she was just told, but based on how Scootaloo's acting right now it was the honest truth. Snapping back to reality Rainbow looked down at the still crying filly. She said nothing and wrapped her forelegs and gently rubbed up and down her back with one of her hooves. She figured it was best to let Scootaloo let it all out right now before going any further into the subject.

After five minutes of crying Scootaloo finally took her head out of Rainbow's chest fur. She looked up up and saw her surrogate older sister giving her the gentlest of smiles. She returned the smile with a small one of her own. Rainbow gently rubbed Scootaloo's back with her wing as she began to speak once more.

"Scootaloo, why didn't you tell anypony about your parents. More importantly, why didn't you tell me?" She asked as gently as possible.

Scootaloo looked down in shame and said, "because I was scared to tell anypony, I didn't tell you because I didn't know what you would say."

Rainbow nodded her head in understanding, and couldn't help but feel sad for the little filly. She didn't show it but she was actually very upset and hurt as well. She was very close with Scootaloo's parents. When she was a filly and her own mother and father were busy, Scootaloo's parents would foalsit her. They would feed her, play with her, and they even helped her fly. When she was ever sad or missed her own parent's when they were away, they were there to cheer her up. They were the most kind and caring people she had ever known and she considered them her second family.

"Rainbow Dash, are you alright?" Scootaloo asked breaking rainbow out of memories and back to reality.

"Huh, oh yeah, I'm fine," Rainbow said quickly "So how long have you been out here?"

Scootaloo looked down sadly as tears began to formed in her eyes once more. However she quickly brushed them away with her hoof before speaking.

"Three weeks," She said sadly as a combination of thunder and lightning erupted in the sky. Scootaloo yelped in terror and held rainbow tightly.

Rainbow gently rubbed Scootaloo's back with her wind and said softly, "Easy, kiddo, It's just the storm. Come on, I'll let you stay at my house tonight and we'll talk more in the morning."

A huge smile grew on Scootaloo's face as tears formed in her eyes once more.

"Really, I can stay with you tonight?" She asked happily.

"Don't tell me you thought I would just leave you here by yourself in this kind of weather." Rainbow said with a smile on her face.

Scootaloo immediately hugged Rainbow's waist once again as she let her tears flow freely.

"Oh, thank you, Rainbow Dash! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She cried happily as Rainbow wrapped a foreleg around small body.

"Your welcome, Scoots'," Rainbow said happily "grab your stuff and let's get going."

Scootaloo grabbed her saddlebags and put her picture of parents back inside. She closed the bags and put them on her back before going over to Rainbow who bent down to let her get onto her back. Once Scootaloo was on her back, Rainbow blew out the candle in the lantern before going over over to the door and spreading her wings.

"Hang on tight, kiddo." She said to the filly on her back. She took to the air and began the journey home as Scootaloo held onto her neck.

Arriving at her cloud home, Rainbow Dash immediately went inside. She bent down to let Scootaloo get off of her back. As Scootaloo took off her saddlebags She shook herself dry before looking at the soaking wet filly beside her. Scootaloo was shivering from being cold and wet which made Rainbow concerned, she didn't want her to catch a cold.

"Hang on, Scoots, I'll be right back with a towel." She said gently so she could help her get dry.

Rainbow flew upstairs to the bathroom and grabbed a spare towel from one the bottom cabinets. She returned downstairs to the little filly and helped dry her off. She then wrapped the towel around her to give her a little bit of warmth. After a moment Scootaloo stopped shivering as he felt her body warm up. She let out a happy sigh and gave the cyan mare in front of her a thankful smile.

"Thank you, Rainbow Dash." She said softly while still smiling.

Rainbow gave the little filly a smile of her own and said, "hey, what kind of pony would I be if I didn't try to help you?"

The two shared a giggle until Rainbow heard Scootaloo's stomach rumble and then her own.

"Sounds like we both could use something to eat." Rainbow said to Scootaloo with a smirk on her face. "Alright kiddo, I'm gonna go make us some dinner. It's gonna be a little while until its ready though, so how about you go upstairs and take a nice warm bath. Dinner should be ready by the time your done."

Scootaloo smiled and said, "Alright, Rainbow." She then rushed up to the cyan mare and wrapped her forelegs around her waist. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here tonight. I hate sleeping inside the clubhouse. It gets cold at night and I get kind of scared when I'm all alone."

Rainbow gave her a sad smile and returned the hug. "It's not a problem scoots I couldn't just leave you out there especially in a storm. Now go take a bath while I make us some dinner." She said happily

Scootaloo nodded her head and went up the stairs. Rainbow watched the little filly leave the living room before going to the kitchen while thinking to herself.

When Scootaloo found the bathroom she went inside and closed the door. She threw threw the wet towel she was wearing in a basket and grabbed a fresh one. Once she set it in a safe place, she turned the faucets on the bath tub and let it fill with warm water. Once it was the perfect level for her, she very carefully entered the tub. She shivered a little as the warm water came in contact with her cold body, but she soon relaxed as the cold melted away like ice. She sat in the bath tub for a few minutes and let herself warm up. She had never been more thankful for Rainbow Dash finding her.

However, while she was grateful for Rainbow Dash letting her stay the night with her. She wished she was at her house with her parents there with her. She teared up a little bit at the thought of her parents, she missed them so much. She let her tears flow free and cried quietly for a few minutes. Once she pulled herself together, she quickly washed her body as well as her mane and tail. Once she was clean she drained the bathtub and dried herself off. While she was drying, she heard a knock on the bathroom door as well as Rainbow Dash's voice.

"Scootaloo, is everything okay in there? Dinners ready and you've been in there a while."

"Yeah, I'm alright, I'll be down in a minute." Scootaloo replied.

Once she finished drying herself off, she threw her towel into the basket with the other one before going downstairs.

When she arrived in the kitchen she could smell a very familiar and delicious aroma.

Rainbow Dash walked up to her and said, "Your dinners on the table, kiddo, It's daffodil soup. Fluttershy gave me the recipe."

Scootaloo quickly hoped into the chair and stared at the delicious meal. Daffodil soup was one of her favorite meals. Her mother had made for her a lot. Scootaloo took a spoonful of the soup and sipped it into her mouth. The warm liquid flowed down her throat like a gentle river and the second it was gone Scootaloo went back for more. Rainbow saw the little filly devouring the soup and chuckled.

"Look's like a certain little filly was hungry." she said with a smile on her face,

Scootaloo giggled a little bit and nodded her head.

"I love daffodil soup." She said happily.

Once Rainbow Dash sat down the two ate their dinner in silence with smiles on their faces. Once they were finished Scootaloo asked for a glass of water and Rainbow went a made one for her. She drank the water and wiped the liquid from her mouth with her hoof. Rainbow looked at her for a moment before Scootaloo spoke up.

"Are you okay, Rainbow Dash?" she asked curiously

Rainbow nodded her head and replied, "yeah, I'm fine, kiddo, I've also been thinking about something while I was making dinner and you were taking a bath."

Scootaloo tilted her head a little bit and looked at Rainbow in confusion.

"I'm not sure what I'm going to do with you Scootaloo," Rainbow began, " but I decided to let you stay with me until I figure something out."

Scootaloo eyes went wide before a few tears started to go down her face.

"Really I can stay with you!?" She said happily

Rainbow gave her a smirk and said, "You did say you hated sleeping in that clubhouse. You didn't think I was just going to let you go back there tomorrow did you?"

Scootaloo immediately jumped onto Rainbow Dash's lap and wrapped her foreleg and wrapped her forelegs around her as tears of joy streamed down her face.

"Thank You! Thank you so much, Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo cried happily

Rainbow wrapped her forelegs around the little filly and rubbed her side with one of her hooves.

"Your welcome, Scootaloo." She said softly as she gave the filly a gentle smile.

Scootaloo let out a tired yawn and rested her head on Rainbow's chest.

"Alright, scoots, time to get some shut eye." Rainbow said

"Aww, can't we stay up and do something awesome?" Scootaloo asked as she gave Rainbow a puppy dog face.

Rainbow shook her and ruffled Scootaloo's mane before saying, "Sorry, kiddo, I have weather duty tomorrow and you have school tomorrow. Besides you've had enough of a long day. "

Scootaloo nodded her head before getting off of Rainbow's lap. She grabbed her saddlebags she left at the door and trotted upstairs with Rainbow right beside her. She followed the cyan mare to the guest room and went inside. Before she got into the bed, she took out a little stuffed rabbit out of her saddlebag. She slept with it every night since her parents gave it to her when she was four years old. She didn't really care if anyone knew if she still slept with a stuffed animal it was the one thing she still had besides her scooter that reminded her of her parents.

Scootaloo put the rabbit on the bed and climbed up into it. She got under the covers as Rainbow came over to her and tucked her in.

"Alright, scoots I'm right next door if you need me, sweet dreams." Rainbow said gently as she began to leave the room.

"Rainbow wait!" Scootaloo called out making the mare stop in her tracks and turn around.

"What's up?" Rainbow asked curiously.

Scootaloo began to blush a little bit as she rubbed the back of her neck before speaking.

"Um...I know this is kind of weird to ask, but can you give me a goodnight kiss. My mom did it for me every night, it helps me sleep."

Rainbow gave the filly a soft smile and went over to her. She leaned over and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead before looking into her eyes.

"Just because I'm awesome doesn't mean I can't have a soft side." She said gently before giving Scootaloo a small nuzzle making the little filly giggle. "Alright kiddo, sweet dreams I'll see you in the morning."

Scootaloo let out one more tired yawn and grabbed her stuffed rabbit beside her. She snuggled into the warm blankets and cuddled the doll.

"Goodnight Rainbow Dash." She said softly before falling asleep.

Rainbow gave the filly one last gentle smile before closing the door. She then went into her room and closed the door. She wanted to read a book but instead she just got under the covers and laid her head on the pillow. Small tears formed in her eyes as she began thinking about Scootaloo's parents. Ever since Scootaloo told her they were dead, she wanted to break down and cry. However she didn't want to worry the little filly and upset her anymore than she already was. Now she was all alone as she began to let her tears flow free. Scootaloo's parents were the nicest, most caring people she had ever known. They had treated her like she was their own daughter. Now they were gone, she never had the chance to thank them for helping take care of her or helping her fly. She never had the chance to say goodbye. With all the pain of knowing she would never see them again, Rainbow quietly cried herself to sleep.

The light of the morning sun began to shine through the windows of Rainbow Dash's soft cloud home. Rainbow Dash began to wake in her bed as she sat up in the bed and stretched for a moment. She then got out of the bed and stretched her entire body before leaving the room. In the hallway, Rainbow began to make her way to the guest room to wake Scootaloo only to see the Little filly leave the room on her own and meet her in the hallway.

"Hey there Scoots, did you sleep well last night?" Rainbow asked with a smile on her face.

Scootaloo returned the smile with one of her own before saying, "I sure did Rainbow Dash, how about you?"

Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck nervously before responding, "Uh yeah, slept like a little filly. Now let's go have some breakfast before I take you to school."

Scootaloo nodded her head before going downstairs. Rainbow followed her with a look of sadness. She didn't want to lie to her surrogate little sister, but she didn't want to worry her by saying she had cried herself to sleep last night. When she arrived at the kitchen she made herself and Scootaloo a bowl of cereal. The two ate quietly as Rainbow thought about she would do today. She decided to take Scootaloo to School first then quickly get done with weather duty and then go find her friends to talk with them about Scootaloo.

When they were finished with their breakfast Rainbow took the bowls and washed them before returning to the little filly staying with her.

"Alright, Scoots, let's get going." Rainbow said before bending down to let Scootaloo get onto her back. Scootaloo climbed onto Rainbow's back and grabbed her neck. Rainbow went outside and flew down to Ponyville. When they arrived at the School, Rainbow let Scootaloo off her back and smiled at her.

"Alright, kiddo, I'll come and get you after School." Rainbow said to the little filly.

Scootaloo smiled at her and waved goodbye before going into the schoolhouse. When she was out of sight, Rainbow took to the sky to quickly do her weather duty. It took a little while, but once she was finished, she began making her way to twilight's library to talk to the unicorn. As she flew, she couldn't help but feel something bothering her in the back of her mind. However she couldn't figure out what the thought was. She eventually forgot about the thought when she arrived at Twilight's library. She went inside and looked around only to see that the entire place was empty.

"Twilight, are you here!?" Rainbow called out as her voice echoed across the walls.

As the echo faded into silence, A young lavender unicorn mare came down the steps. It was the mare Rainbow was looking for, Twilight Sparkle.

"Hi, Rainbow, are you here for the next story in the Daring Do series?" She asked sweetly and politely

Rainbow shook her head in response before saying, "No, I came here because I didn't know who to talk to first."

Twilight had a look of confusion on her face.

"about what?" she asked curiously

Rainbow let out a long sigh before saying, "I came to talk to you about Scootaloo. I just found out yesterday that her parents died."

Twilight gasped in shock and let her mouth hang open as Rainbow began to tear up at the thought of Scootaloo's parents. She quickly brushed them away before continuing to speak.

"Her parents died a few weeks ago and she's been living on her own. She's been staying in that clubhouse she and hr friend use and has occasionally stayed with either Applejack or Rarity for a night or two. Neither of them knows that she's homeless. I found her last night sitting in that clubhouse scared and alone while trying to weather out that storm we had."

Twilight listened to Rainbows story intently before asking in a curious tone of voice, "What happened after you found her?"

Rainbow gave her a sad smile and said, "She told me about her parents and I comforted her for a little while before taking her home with me. I then decided to let her stay with me so she didn't have to stay in that clubhouse anymore."

Twilight smiled softly and said, "That's wonderful Rainbow, I'm proud of you."

Rainbow blushed a little and said, "Thanks Twilight."

The sweet moment however was quickly ended as Rainbow closed her eyes and looked down in sadness. Twilight noticed this and went over to her.

She gently place a hoof on Rainbow's shoulder and asked gently, "What the matter?"

Rainbow felt small tears form in her eyes as she let out a shaky sigh before speaking.

"I was very close with Scootaloo's parents when I was a little filly. Even though my own parents were awesome, Scootaloo's parents took care of me when they weren't around and they treated me as if I was there own filly. When Scootaloo told me about them dying I went to my own room after putting her to bed and cried all night. I feel bad because I still want to cry but I shouldn't because Scootaloo is the one who deserves to cry. She was their daughter not me."

Twilight wrapped a gentle foreleg around her friend and pulled her close. She gave her a soft smile and said,

"Rainbow, don't feel bad. It's okay to cry about losing them. Even though they weren't your parents they still loved and cared about you like they were your own. It's okay to cry because you miss them like Scootaloo does."

Rainbow couldn't hold it in anymore. She laid her head down on her friends shoulder and cried quietly for what felt like an hour. Twilight pulled her into a hug and gently rubbed her back as she cried. After a little while, Rainbow stopped crying and wiped her eyes with her hoof as Twilight levitated a tissue to her.

"Thanks, Twilight, I needed to get that out." Rainbow sniffled as she blew her nose.

"Your welcome, Rainbow," Twilight replied gently." I know you will do the same for Scootaloo when she needs to cry."

Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck a little bit as she began to speak once more.

"Actually Twilight that was another reason I came here. You see, I don't know what to do with Scootaloo. I have been thinking about adopting her and becoming her guardian, but I don't know if I can."

Twilight looked at her and asked, "Why not?"

"I don't know if I'll be good enough to raise a little filly. What if I screw up and something bad happens to her? It would be all my fault." Rainbow said sadly as fresh tears formed in her eyes. "Some big sister I am."

Twilight had frown on her face as she gently lifted Rainbow's chin to look her in the eyes. She then began to speak to her in a gentle yet stern tone of voice.

"Rainbow Dash, you listen to me now. I don't ever want to hear you doubt yourself like that again. That's not the Rainbow Dash that I know and love. You and I both know you can take care of Scootaloo. After it can't be easy for her to think about her parents right now. You and I both know that you are the one mare that would be there for her. You would be the one to comfort her and help her get through this terrible time in her young life? You've been her big sister figure for almost a year. Your just doubting yourself even though you know in your heart you want to do the right thing. You love and care for Scootaloo just as much as you love and cared for both your parents and hers. Yes taking care of her won't be easy, but I promise you, there's nothing that you wont be able to handle. Besides, myself and the rest of our friends will be there to help you when you need it."

Twilight then gave Rainbow the softest of smiles before speaking again."Listen to your heart, Rainbow you know that your doing the right thing."

Rainbow listened to Twilight's every word. However before she could say anything her mind was plagued with the thought from earlier. It was the one she had before she came to Twilight. The thought began to change and form into something else. It had became a memory, a very important memory that Rainbow had long forgotten.

"You both wanted to see me?" A young filly Rainbow Dash asked a young mare and stallion.

The couple smiled at the little filly and the stallion eventually said, "Yes we did Rainbow. We wanted to tell you some good news."

Rainbow looked at them in curiosity as the mare smiled at her softly. " Rainbow, Dear, I'm going to have a baby."

Rainbow cheered in excitement before hugging the young couple.

"Yay! Where is it!?" She asked excitedly

The couple chuckled as the mare said, "It's in my tummy Sweetie."

Rainbow looked at her curiously before asking, "How did it get there, did you eat it?"

The stallion couldn't help but let out a hearty roll of laughter at the innocence of the young filly.

"No she didn't eat it Rainbow. Your parents will tell you why it's there when your a little older."

Rainbow crossed her little forelgs and pouted.

"I wanna know now!" She complained.

"Sorry Kiddo." The stallion said with a chuckle before giving the young filly a gentle serious look "But I do want you to promise us one thing Rainbow."

Rainbow looked at them with curiosity as the mare talked to her in the gentlest of voices.

"Rainbow, sweetie, Your getting old enough to be able to take care of yourself like any young mare. You have become very close to us and we consider you family which is why we wanted you to promise us this. I want you to promise us that if anything ever happens to us you will take care of our baby as if she were your own little brother or sister. We know you two will be very close in the future and If anything ever did happen to us, I want to make sure our baby is being taken care of someone that we know and love."

Rainbow remained silent for a moment as she let what she was told sink into her mind. After a minute, Rainbow finally smiled before flying into the air.

"Alright, I promise!" she cheered before hugging the couple

Rainbow stared at the wall of the library with a blank expression on her face as the memory began to fade. Tears of guilt began to form in her eyes. How could she have forgotten the most important promise she had ever made to Scootaloo's parents? How could she let that one memory slip away? Rainbow began to tremble as Twilight shook her.

"Rainbow! Rainbow!" Twilight called out as Rainbow snapped out of her guilty state.

"Are you alright, you've been staring like that since I stopped talking to you." Twilight asked in concern

Rainbow shook her head and said, "Yeah I'm alright, just a little upset, but I know what I'm going to do now."

"What are you going to do?" Twilight asked with a smile on her face.

Rainbow finally smiled and said, "I'm going to do the right thing and become Scootaloo's guardian. Your right, Twilight, I'm her big sister and I shouldn't have doubted myself. I'm going to take care of her like any awesome big sister would."

Twilight gave her a hug and said, "I know you will be a great big sister Rainbow."

Rainbow returned the hug as the clock began to chime.

"I had better go get Scootaloo and take her home. I'll go sign the adoption papers tomorrow. I'm gonna wait until tonight to tell her the big news."

Rainbow flew out of the Library as Twilight followed her.

"See ya, Twilight, and thank you." Rainbow said happily before flying off with Twilight waving goodbye in the distance.

Rainbow flew to the school with a look of determination on her face as she spoke to herself while thinking about Scootaloo's parents.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna break my promise to you both."

Arriving at the School, Rainbow stood in front of it and waited patiently for Scootaloo. It wasn't long before a pile of colt and fillies exited the School with Cheerilee standing at the doorway waving goodbye. After about a moment, Scootaloo came out of the School and saw Rainbow Dash waving to her. She ran up to the cyan mare and smiled.

"Hey there Scoots, how was School?" Rainbow asked with a smile on her face.

"Oh, um it was alright." Scootaloo replied.

Rainbow didn't say anything but she could tell something was bothering Scootaloo. She could tell that she was upset about something. However Rainbow decided to talk to her tonight about what was bothering her. Right now she wanted to give her the best afternoon she could give.

"Hey Scoots how about we head to Sugarcube Corner for some ice cream." Rainbow said with a smirk on her face.

Scootaloo smiled and said, "That sounds awesome, thanks Rainbow Dash."

Rainbow picked up Scootaloo and placed her on her back before taking off. When they arrived at the sweet shop, she flew inside and went up to Pinkie Pie who was was working the counter. The hyper pony saw the two headed her way and she put a huge smile on her face.

"Hey Rainbow, hey Scootaloo. What are you guys doing here?" She asked happily

"Hey there Pinkie," Rainbow replied, "We're here to get some ice cream."

"Ooh, that sounds delicious, what can I make you?" Pinkie asked

Rainbow smiled at the little filly on her back and said, "Go ahead Scoots, you can order any flavor you want."

After both Rainbow and Scootaloo ordered their choices, Rainbow paid pinkie the bits she owed her and took the ice cream. The two went over to a table and Rainbow let Scootaloo of her back before the two sat down. Scootaloo got rocky road and Rainbow got peanut butter supreme which was vanilla ice cream topper with peanut butter and chocolate syrup. The two talked happily while eating her ice cream. Scootaloo told Rainbow about how she missed Applebloom and Sweetie Belle. She also admitted that she almost got into a fight with Diamond Tiara after she pushed her and called her a blank flank. However she said that she did the right thing and told Cheerilee because she didn't want to get in trouble with either Cheerilee or Rainbow Dash. Hearing this made Rainbow proud that Scootaloo knew to be the bigger mare. After they finished their ice cream, they talked to each other about whatever came to their minds until the sun was beginning to set.

"Alright, Kiddo, let's head home." Rainbow said before putting the filly on her back. "See you tomorrow, Pinkie." She said to the pink pony behind the counter who was waving goodbye.

Rainbow took off towards her house. By the time she arrived at her home, the sun was completely set. She went inside and let the small filly off of her back before looking at her.

"Alright Scoots, go take a bath while a make us some dinner." Rainbow said calmly before heading into the kitchen.

She looked back and saw Scootaloo head upstairs. When she was out of sight, Rainbow began making dinner for the two of them. As she cooked she began to worry a little bit about the decision she had made concerning Scootaloo. Could she really handle taking care of a little filly, could she be the big sister that she wants to be? Rainbows worries soon melted away when she began to think about the promise she made to Scootaloo's parents. She promised them she would take care of their little filly and she would. As the dinner rainbow made cooled, she heard something fly up next to her and rub her cheek.

"Hey there, Tank!" Rainbow said while giggling.

Rainbow nuzzled her pet tortoise lovingly until her face went red with embarrassment as she saw Scootaloo standing at the doorway giggling.

"Uh, hey there Scoots, come on lets eat dinner." Rainbow said as her face continued to be red.

The two ate quietly as Rainbow noticed a sad look on Scootaloo's face. That one expression brought up Rainbows worries from earlier in the day as Scootaloo finished her dinner and left the kitchen with a small tear escaping her eye. Rainbow quickly finished her dinner and went into the living room only to hear a door close. She quietly went upstairs to the guest room and put her ear to the door. On the other side, she could hear Scootaloo crying.

Knocking on the door, Rainbow asked worryingly, "Scootaloo, can I come in?"

"Y-yes" Scootaloo replied from the other side.

Rainbow slowly opened the door and saw Scootaloo sitting on the bed. She slowly trotted up to her and saw that her face was stained with tears.

She put a gentle hoof on the little filly's shoulder and asked, "Scootaloo, whats the matter, why are you crying?"

Scootaloo shook her head not wanting to answer the question. Rainbow looked at her with a worried expression on her face.

"Come on, please tell me." She said as gently as possible hoping Scootaloo would open up.

Scootaloo once again shook her head in response. Rainbow felt a small tear escape her cheek, she never like seeing those she cared about cry. Wiping the tear away Rainbow sat on the bed beside the little filly and rubbed her shoulder and began speaking to her as gently and sweetly as possible.

"Scootaloo, you can tell me anything. I told you before that I'm your big sister, and I want to help you. So please sweetie, tell me whats wrong, let me help you."

Scootaloo began to weep even more as Dash's voice rang through her ears. Her normal tough and cocky voice instead sounded sweet and motherly. It was a voice Scootaloo longed to hear as her sobs turned into outright crying.

"I-I m-miss them R-Rainbow Dash, I m-miss my mom and d-dad!" Scootaloo wailed as she buried her head into the blankets on the bed and pounded the mattress. "I n-never g-got to s-say I l-loved them o-one more t-time! I n-never got to s-say g-goodbye!"

Rainbow felt absolutely horrible for the little filly after hearing the words she just heard. Rainbow began to remember Twilight's words from earlier in the day. Only Rainbow Dash could be there to comfort Scootaloo and help her get through this painful time in her life. Without saying anything, Rainbow gently picked up Scootaloo and placed her on her lap before pulling her into a gentle and loving hug. She gently rocked the crying filly back in forth as she softly hushed her.

"Shhh....It's going to be alright, Scootaloo. Just let it all out...Shhh."

Scootaloo laid her head against Rainbows soft chest fur and cried while screaming for her parents, even though she knew they would never come. Rainbow continued to rock her while softly whispering in her ear that everything would be alright. Rainbow let the little filly cry as she thought about how she was acting right now. she wasn't acting like the tough Pegasus that Scootaloo idolized. She was showing her softer caring side that she had begun to show ever since she took Scootaloo in. Even though she was the Scootaloo's big sister she was showing the loving motherly side she never knew she had.

Scootaloo cried for about fifteen more minutes until she couldn't cry anymore. Rainbow gently brushed away her tears with her hoof as Scootaloo began to relax in her big sisters embrace. Her fur was warm and her heartbeat was calm and gentle just like her own mothers heart when she fell asleep in her lap and rested her head against her chest.

"Do you feel better, kiddo?" Rainbow asked sweetly with a soft smile on her face.

Scootaloo nodded her head head before looking down in sadness while saying, "I'm sorry you had to see me cry."

Rainbow frowned before saying, "Scootaloo, don't ever apologize for crying again. You miss your parents and your crying because you miss them. It's okay to cry and let it all out. It's not good for you to keep your emotions inside. I know you miss your parents, I miss them too."

Scootaloo looked at Rainbow in confusion.

"You knew my parents?"

Rainbow let out a long sigh before nodding her head and talking to Scootaloo.

"Yes I did, I knew them ever since I was a little filly. Before you were born, your parents were my foalsitters. They were the nicest people I had ever met. After you told me they died I was heartbroken. After I tucked you in last night, I went to my room and cried all night." Small tears began to escape Rainbows magenta eyes. "I never got to say goodbye to them either."
Rainbow brushed her tears away before speaking again. "But, I did promise them something, and it involves you Scootaloo."

"Me?" Scootaloo asked curiously while pointing a hoof at herself.

"Yes," Rainbow replied, "The last time I saw you parents, I made a promise to them. I promised that if anything happened to them, I would take care of their baby as if they were my own little brother or sister. I promised your parents I would take care of you Scootaloo, which is why I'm wanna tell you something awesome."

Scootaloo's mind began putting the pieces together as tears formed in her eyes once again and a small began to grow larger and larger on her face.

"Scootaloo, I'm gonna become your new guardian and become your real big sister." Rainbow said happily

Scootaloo said nothing and buried her head in Rainbow's chest fur once more while crying not tears of sadness, but tears of joy. She cried thank you over and over again as Rainbow wrapped her forelegs around her while wearing a huge smile on her face. The two stayed that way for about five minutes until Scootaloo let out a tired yawn.

Rainbow kissed her on the forehead before saying, "Alright, it's time for bed, little sis."

Rainbow gently tucked Scootaloo in and kissed her on the forehead before making her way out of the room.

"Rainbow wait!" Scootaloo quickly said with a scared look on her face.

"Whats the matter?" Rainbow asked curiously.

"Um..I'm scared of the dark." Scootaloo said sadly "I wanted to tell you last night, but I fell asleep before you left."

Rainbow gave her a soft smile and trotted back to her.

"Don't worry kiddo, I'm gonna tell you something. I was scared of the dark when I was a little filly. I would cry a lot when I had to go to sleep because I was scared. But I remember my mom used to sing me a lullaby that helped me get to sleep. Do you want me to sing it to you?"

Scootaloo nodded her head as Rainbow cleared her thought and began to sing a familiar lullaby.

"Hush now, quiet now"

"It's time to lay your sleepy head"

"Hush now, quiet now"

"It's time to go to bed"

Rainbow was about to continued singing until she Scootaloo fast asleep. Giggling a little, she gently kissed the little filly on the forehead.

"Sweet dreams, little sis." Rainbow said sweetly before leaving the room.

Scootaloo slept peacefully through the night with a happy smile on her face as Princess Luna's moon shined down upon her in a warm comforting glow.

It has been three weeks since Rainbow dash adopted Scootaloo. The cyan mare signed the papers only a day after she told the little filly the good news. Scootaloo couldn't be happier anymore than she is now. She is now adopted by the one Pegasus that she loves the most and she wouldn't have it any other way. However there was one more thing that both Rainbow and Scootaloo wanted to do before they started their new life.

Flying to a small hill outside Ponyville, Scootaloo pointed down to a grave at the top of the hill before tears started to form in her eyes. Rainbow flew down to base of the hill and let the little filly off of her back.

"Are you ready?" Rainbow asked the little filly gently.

Scootaloo nodded her head as a few small tears began to flow. She began making her way up the hill with Rainbow following close behind her. When the two arrived at the top of the hill and approached the grave and read what it said.

"Violet and Ace
Loyal friends and loving parents"

With a shaky sigh Scootaloo began to speak as she tried to hold back her tears while her voice and words were cracked and choked with emotions.

"Hi Mommy, Hi Daddy, It's me again. I wanted to come here to tell you how awesome things are. I've been adopted by Rainbow Dash. I love living with her; we talk, we play games, we laugh together, and she even said she'll teach me how to fly soon. My friends are also coming back from their vacation and I can't wait to start crusading for my cutie mark again. I'm doing good in school too, I'm really good at math and history now. I still get bullied by Diamond Tiara but I always tell Cheerilee and she gets in trouble. Yep, my new life is going great and I wanted to come by and tell you both everything that has happened to me."

Scootaloo couldn't take her emotional build up as she began to cry. Rainbow came over to her and sat down beside her before wrapping a wing around her. Scootaloo continued to cry as she began to speak once more to the grave.

"My new life is great but I wish you both were here. I miss you both every day and night and I just wanted to tell you both that I love you. You both always told me I will become a strong and beautiful mare when I grow up. I promise you both that I will become that strong and beautiful mare you want to see. I promise you both I will get my cutie mark and make you both proud."

Scootaloo began to cry even harder as Rainbow gently rubbed her side with her wing. With her voice becoming chocked with sadness Scootaloo cried out what she came here to say.

"G-goodbye M-mommy, goodbye D-daddy. I-I-I love you."

With nothing left to be said Scootaloo buried her head into Rainbows chest and cried quietly as Rainbow took a deep shaky breath and began to speak to the grave as well.

"I just wanted to say goodbye to you both as well. I'm so sorry that I forgot about my promise to you both. I promise that I will take care of Scootaloo. I love her and care about her deeply. I promise I will raise her with the same love and compassion that you both showed me when you foalsat me. I also wanted to say thank you for being my foalsitters I couldn't have asked for better ones."

As Rainbow began to softly cry, she said one more thing to the grave.

"Tell Mom and Dad I said hi and I love them both."

Rainbow then wrapped her forelegs and wings around Scootaloo and held her in a loving embrace as she continued to cry. A gentle and comforting wind began blowing against the two sisters as both began to smile with tears in their eyes. The wind made Scootaloo calm down as it gently flowed through her mane. The wind did the same for Rainbow Dash as she closed her eyes and let the wind blow against her.

"Bye Mommy, Bye Daddy." Scootaloo said softly as the gentle wind began to disappear.

Scootaloo then rested her head against he big sisters neck. She knew her parents would always be with her, and she knew that Rainbow Dash would always be with her as well.

"I love you, Rainbow Dash." Scootaloo said softly as she let out a sigh of happiness.

Rainbow closed her eyes and softly smiled as she kissed her little sisters forehead before responding to her in a soft and gentle voice.

"I love you too, Scootaloo."
