As I understand it, the word spelling Pegasus comes from Latin, and Latin words ending in -us change to -i in the plural.
However, the myth actually comes from Greek, and Greek words in Latin follow different rules, with the Greek -os ending changing to -us, but taking the plural as -oi instead of -i.
So really it should be Pegasoi.
Except it gets worse.
Pegasus is an individual semi-deity's name. What the plural of Zeus or Jupiter? The proper term actually should be Pterippus, pluralized to Pterippoi.
But language evolves, so pegasi or pegasuses are both equally acceptable.
