In my normal stories Spike is a player seeking out his perfect pony. He has a group of guys to give him advice.

Oh if you read it you will see that while there is some heartache it is because of how Spike acts and he actually ends up extremely happy.
Considering that Spike is quite unique, character wise, it lets you write a lot of different situations for him. This one is a good, neigh perfect example.

Plus for some portion of that she really was either clueless or under the assumption he was a little kid crushing on his sister's friend. When his earnestness became real to her she was rather torn. Her grown up mind had been open and seeking which explains Obelisk. She needed a grown up. And they had way more in common.

Well... that shows a low emotional maturity level. Rarity wanted Spike to be happy, Spike was happy and had his head back together. He wanted to go to that wedding and liked how things went.
Life isn't perfect, and our emotions get battered. The mature folks, the smart and stable folks, the kind that make something of themselves learn to deal with a life that is bumpy and see when someone is dicking them intentionally and when life just happen that way.
It was adequate if I would give it anything. I would say the characterizing failed at much, but with the "alternate universe" tag, the characterization can be manipulated to however the author deems necessary to facilitate the idea presented. Regardless, a fair read at least. Not something I would read again nor would recommend, but not something I would advise people to avoid.
I would critique more, but the gist I would imagine has already been said.

The only issue that I have with this is that the paragraphs weren't separated well; you could have put in an extra line of space in between to make them much easier to read. Other than that, I got no problem with this plot~

Er, I don't think so. I was under the impression that Obelisk was not Aventurine's ex but a different dog all together. Of course technically, even if he was her ex, Spike still isn't cuckolding him as they would still have to be in a relationship. As it is, Aventurine isn't in a relationship with anyone (at that point).
If Spike was cuckolding Obelisk, he would be doing Rarity not Aventurine.
Blue? Spike's not blue ... he's purple/green. Unless he changed color and I missed it. Also, a few mis-capitalized letters here and there.
Uhm ... yeah. I dunno, it was a thing. A shipping I haven't seen before.
