It took me some time to find out that the story was still incomplete. Which is a good thing, because I wanted to criticize the lack of real ending. I must be tired for some reason :raritydespair:.

Still, I wanted to quickly talk about something:

“Calculating proofs for trigonometry is about as useful as raking leaves on a windy day.”

At first I thought "yes, that's what I was talking about". And then, I began considering the beauty of that comparison. It has little to do with the actual story (at least directly speaking) but I've just been fascinated by it.
On the first degree, this comparison is just saying "math are boring and useless". But actually, raking leaves on a windy day isn't as useless as it seems, or at least it isn't as senseless as it could seem.
- on a very practical level, there is a limited amount of leaves that can fall, even if the wind keep on blowing. Raking leaves on a windy day is, in that sense, more useful than plowing snow on a snowing day, which we have to do. It's not optimal, but there will be less leaves on the ground than if we had done nothing. To take that practical level to the comparison with mathematics, we tend to do again and again the same problems other people have solved before us with no concrete results. We are not helping anybody, it doesn't change anything in the wolrd, accomplish nothing but make us learn something we didn't want to learn and see no use for in the future.
- on an imagery level, someone raking leaves on a windy day is kind of depressing, representing the sisyphe's rock, the kind of job you have to do knowing you'll have to do it over and over again.
- on a psychological level, there is, instinctively, only two possibilities for someone to rake leaves on a windy day: being forced to do it, or having just given up and don't giving a **** about it. Quite a good description of school...

Finally, there is, for people like me, the possibility to see the fact of raking leaves on a windy day like a very positive task. To explain it in a nutshell, it's like drawing in sand and then raking it to begin once again. I think I would actually enjoy raking leaves on a windy day. Just the way I've been able to enjoy some of the challenges of school, mostly in mathematics.
So just like raking leaves on a windy day, solving mathematics problems can be just as boring and useless as it can be seen very positively.

In other words, I like that comparison...

For obvious reasons the pair were split up into different host families

Actually, it's not very obvious for me... I guess it has something to do with them being a boy and a girl, but... well, cutlural thing probably. Still, I would like to know what you had in mind.

And by the way... how did you choose the names Jigsaw and Berry?

Yes, it was because they were a boy and girl. Could you imagine the hi-jinks that could/would ensue?

Huh... I never knew something seemingly insignificant would spark something like that in you. Well, not necessarily true... it's just I didn't think I could do it. :twilightsheepish:

Aw puppy love is best love.
