LDSocrates

Just another writer that aims to entertain. Nothing to see here, move along. Though yes, I am very feminist. Don't like it? That's nice.

Gilda wasn't always a bully. She was always antisocial and had a bit of a mean streak, but not a bully exactly. She was quite the opposite when she first moved to a city full of ponies when she was a teen, or "dinner" as she would have called them in ages past. After a while she resigned herself to exile in her temporary home, just waiting to cross the sea again. A certain annoying, gutsy, and possibly a bit insane mare changed that. We all know how their story ended; this is the day it started.

I'm aware this was probably done to death way back in the days of yore when Season 1 hadn't even finished, but I had a tiny idea to put my own little spin on it, so I figured I might as well get it out there and give it my best while I'm at it.

Whoo, story time! :derpytongue2:

its seems you have the rare knowledge of everyone leave each other the buck alone

I thought this was great. Wished Gilda got more development in the show.

Sorry for not letting you see it in advance, sure it broke your heart. :rainbowwild:

3028821
A simple, simple rule that seems to elude so many people. :facehoof:

3028835
Thank you! :pinkiehappy: And I agree, but at the same time don't? Because if they did it in the show, they still couldn't take many risks with it due to Hasbro looking over their shoulder, so she could never be as good a character in canon as she has the potential to be... if that makes any sense? :derpyderp2:

3029094
Y? Y u do dis to me? :fluttercry:

I like this story.

3028835
Ditto.

It occurred to me as I finished this up that some people could read some sort of message about vegetarianism/veganism or something of that nature.

Actually I thought it was more about girls who starve themselves due to body image issues. But if makes you feel any better I didn't take as a deliberate message from the author.

Enjoyed this!

:heart: This is such a well-done presequel to the Griffon brush-off.

;-; Makes me happy and sad.

3029123
Because you left me with the bill last night! :flutterrage:

3029133 3029162
Glad! Love it when my work entertains people.

3029139
Actually, good friend of mine who pre-read it also read it as a piece about body positivity. Still, body positivity is a topic less likely to attract self-righteous jerks than veganism (ultra vegans and anti vegans both), so decided to defuse that berserk button before it got pushed. :twilightsheepish: Though may get rid of the author's note, if it seems like it isn't needed and no trouble starts.

3029186
Thank ye very, very much! :pinkiehappy: Yeah, when it was done, I found it kind of funny and I found it kind of sad (anyone else who reads this: you're welcome for being reminded of that song), but not enough to warrant either Comedy or Sad especially. So I split the difference and kept it Slice of Life. Glad you... enjoyed it and were saddened by it? No easy way to say "I'm glad I made you sad" when you're a writer. :twilightoops:

:rainbowlaugh: I understand the sentiment (but I'm a lousy writer :derpyderp2:), it just shows quality.

But honestly I was sadden if I consider this presequel, to the never-touched-again Gilda segment (tGBO episode), it always leaves me a bit bittersweet. I hope you plan to one day make more Gilda fics. Yet I'm already reading just more of your amazing work. Glitter! I love where you develop and how you develop them.

What an excellent story!

3029094 its surprising but sadly true :rainbowdetermined2:

3029328
I'm sure you're not that bad. :rainbowlaugh: And I might in the future, if I get another good idea for her. I keep finding myself returning to predator/prey relationships in my stories, though usually with changelings and to a less direct extent dragons, so it's possible. Also, glad you like All That Glitters! Always been proud of that one. :raritystarry:

3029382
Thank ye! :pinkiehappy: Not doing as well as I'd hoped (but don't all stories?), but glad people who've read it are all liking it. :twilightsheepish:

3029688
Eh, it's surprising if you're not a cynic like me. :rainbowwild:

Awesomeness.

Gilda looked the mare in the eye and cocked an eyebrow. “Because you’re ponies, and prey has to stick together against their predators?”

That statement brings a whole new perspective on the scene where RD sided with the other elements.

Good work on this, and don't be afraid of doing things that were done to death before. If it's original in any way it can be worth taking a look at.

3029884
Happy ye think so.

3030715
Best part about writing? Seeing people come up with clever stuff you didn't even intend. I mean, wow, that is a brilliant parallel right there! :raritystarry:

Good one

yay new Socrates story. :pinkiecrazy:

RD: Hmmm.... I like this.

And then Rainbow Dash was a carnivore.
:rainbowwild::pinkiehappy::derpytongue2::trollestia::yay:

“You’re really not getting this whole ‘I eat meat’ thing, are you?” Gilda asked back, getting back on all fours. “I don’t eat ponies, but I do eat other animals that are almost as smart, some of which can talk. I get mad about the ponies here, but I really don’t blame them for hating me for it.”

“Well, I do,” Dash said with finality. “I’m not a biologist or anything, but griffons kind of need to eat meat, don’t they?”

She let out a raspy sigh, her gaze lowering. “Well, yeah, but–”

The next question I expected was "And do griffons need to eat smart, talking animals' meat?" Rainbow Dash being okay with that part (without explanations) was a bit surprising.

3031911
Thank ye.

3032103
Oh god he's back, lock the doors! :pinkiegasp:

3033769
Pfeh, yeah, RD would totally ask for a bite every now and then. :rainbowlaugh:

3034848
Well, in the show it's established even freaking beavers have some form of translatable communication, so I think it's safe to say that un-intelligent meat is not a thing that can be found. It's a common fridge logic problem in shows where all the animals talk, though normally side-stepped by making fish non thinking (which I find to be a bit of a cop-out).

3034901
Yes, that's a perfectly reasonable explanation (and one I expected). I just thought it should be more explicit.

3034901

Oh please, as if doors are any barrier for a wizard. :ajsmug:

Simple, good read, well written and accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish.

Oh noes! Why is this over already? :pinkiegasp:

Sure, this has been done a couple of times but almost never this good...
I really loved it. Is there any (even the slightest) chance you are going to continue/ write a sequel to this? :fluttershysad:

3035079
Hm... yeah, I see what you mean. Not sure how I'd insert that dialogue without interrupting the flow, though.

3035848
Oh, right, doors only work on aliens. :facehoof: *Signs joke*

3038930
Thank ye. And thanks for taking a chance on another piece of mine!

3040085
Well, not sure it's never been done this good. :twilightblush: And... maybe? I mean, I have other, much more popular and well done stories that I need to update first, and one to even finish. I might come back to it some other time, but for now I'm focusing on my other stories.

3047718

Well that joke was old and terrible. As punishment you should read my newly featured story. :pinkiehappy:

3047718

well... nothing i can do about it but pass the time by reading your other stories and giving a watch... and ask one more time to peeeritty peelease not discontinue this :pinkiesad2:

There are humans who, due to one medical disorder or another, require a high-protein diet to stay healthy. Vegetarianism is virtually impossible for such individuals. I suffer from such a condition, and when I was first diagnosed, I asked my philosophy teacher about the morality involved--was it okay for me to eat meat, if my health required that I do so? He wasn't able to give me a good answer.

I'm in remission now, so for the moment I can eat whatever I want. But it wasn't until after I went into remission that I found a real answer to my question. I learned that the Dalai Lama suffers from hepatitis, and that his doctors insist that he eat meat to stay healthy. On alternating days, he eats meat, and on the other days, his diet is entirely vegetarian. He found his compromise, and made peace with his condition.

I guess what I'm saying is, thank you for this story.

A very nice story, and yet there's an element of tragedy, for here we can see what Gilda will lose. Also, "Gilda von Falke" is a great full name for her, one I may steal borrow for my own purposes. With your permission, of course.

3222626
I'm not surprised that such a condition exists, but in truth I didn't know that it did. :rainbowderp: My condolences for having to go through that against your will, and I hope you continue to get better.

3248139
I suppose you could justify it as a tragedy, yeah. :duck: And sure, go ahead; just let me know what story so I could maybe give it a read, okay? :pinkiehappy:

83 likes and 0 dislikes? That's an academy record.

This is a very, very well done short.

Wow. I knew Rainbow Dash had guts, I just didn't expect her to go against them like that. To be honest I had never really considered the carnivores of equestria. I just figured that the bestial hunters didn't think enough to care and that there was some kind of dumb animal for the sentient carnivores. This fic has also given me a bit more empathy for vegetarians.

*Grins and applauds* Bravo.

Followed.

Fun fact: Horses can, and often do, eat meat.

Have you ever considered submitting this story to Equestria Daily? You can find out how to do so here. Where did you get the cover art?

What I do: Fucks feminism in the pussy, loves this story

“A completely awesome mare? Yeah, I knew that,” she snickered, rubbing her hoof on her chest and examining it. Her smug look fell and eyes went wide when

her stomach let out a very low, angry squelch

, her cheeks turning green. “Uh, be right back.”

Is it psychosomatic or are the ponies here biologically quite different from horses? A bite of meat wouldn't give any issue to an horse ^^;;

Nice origin story tale of Gilda and Rainbow meet
