How about making the best dress or learning the most magic? Those are Twilight's and Rarity's talents, and I bet the other ponies would have a hard time with it.

It's actually not that far-fetched that Applejack could be real competition against Dash in a flying race, even if her win was pretty much a technicality. It just depends on how you think that wing spell works.
Personally, since they're magical wings, I think they tie in directly to each individual pony's personal traits, based on personality plus physical and magical capabilities. So it makes sense that Applejack's magic wings would give her racing abilities comparable to Rainbow Dash, since they're on similar levels in other forms of athleticism. That's why Rarity's butterfly wings were geared toward beauty and grace, because she's not a huge athlete in any case. So I like the fact that you gave AJ dragonfly wings. And then looking at Rarity again, it seems like because the wings are magical, they pretty much grant the automatic ability to use them effectively, so it's actually not that important that AJ had never flown before.
If its caring for animals then it must be caring for pets.

Rainbow Is going to win the Magic competition by working in Pegasus magic into the competition
Fluttershy is going to surprise everyone at the dressmaking competition with a design she was gonna try during her brief stint as a model.
Twilight will make the best party by placing the party room in a time warp so that can last longer
and Pinkie would care for the animals the best as she has practice with the Twins.
Definitely the best chapter so far. Rarity and Gummy especially were pretty funny, and the dead mouse was a slightly morbid sort of amusing. Although I'm not sure how much it was a genuinely fair competition, since so much of that depended on who got which pet each round.
Gummy is pretty cute when Pinkie dresses him up, though, so him winning the grooming round makes sense.
Maybe feeding Winona is why Applejack keeps pigs? I don't know, maybe they buy that sort of pet food from griffons or such, and just don't ask too many questions about how it's made.

It's sorta surprising AJ's Apple pie would really count for much. Seems like there'd be enough to last for just a fraction of the ponies, then she'd be out of food to offer.
Seems like Twilight won mostly because of her music. I wonder if she knows a spell.
