That was not a bad start; not a bad start at all. There are maybe one or two grammar errors I can see (which aren't even worth pointing out) and the story moves along quickly. I'm excited to see how this will tie in with the Mane Six.
It's a mediocre start. I don't see why it's been rating bombed, but I'll favorite to read for later.
