This story is a sequel to Before the Dawn

A year has passed since the fall of the Crystal Empire. While Celestia and the rest of the ponies of Equestria appear to have moved on, Princess Luna has not. She spends her evenings banishing nightmares of her subjects, especially those of her sister. In the meantime, she struggles to fight against the Nightmist that has managed to burrow its way deep into her heart. Resentment courses through her veins, and fear of rejection threatens to consume her.

When two strange creatures arrive on Equestria in the forms of Scorpan and Tirek, Luna assumes they mean no harm...at least until ponies begin dying. Surely the Elements of Harmony will be enough to defeat the evil, but Luna begins to wonder if her heart is strong enough to wield the elements any longer.

Equestria stands upon the brink of devastation, and it's up to Celestia and Luna to save the land.

But what happens when the savior turns into an even darker enemy?

A thousand years ago, Princess Celestia banished her sister to the moon, that much we know. What wasn’t known, and what Celestia kept secret was that before her banishment, Luna had given birth to a foal. Now a thousand years later, as Nightmare returns to Equestria to bring about Eternal Night.

Twilight Sparkle, protege of Princess Celestia, struggles against the tyranny of this ancient foe. But how will she be able to save herself and her friends when the truth of this ancient legend crashes down upon her? Twilight will have to confront herself...and her heritage.

Princess Luna has got into an argument with her older sister and goes to her private realm to vent. Meanwhile, in another realm, Prince Artemis has got into a similar situation with his brother. From what was a simple meeting between alicorns of the night quickly becomes anything but simple.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders have tried hundreds of ideas to gain their cutie marks. When "crocodile catcher" doesn't work out, they decide to invade Twilight Sparkle's library to see if they can find another spell to help them. What they discover is more than what they bargained for.

In place of their cutie marks, they lose their families instead.

With the aid of Princess Luna, the Cutie Mark Crusaders have to find a way to break the curse so they can bring normality back to Ponyville. But this won't just be a quest of mind. It'll be a quest of heart and soul that will make the Cutie Mark Crusaders really see who they are on the inside.

Unbeknownst to Celestia, Luna was with a foal when she was banished, forced to give birth in her lunar exile. Now, centuries later, she has come back, broken and somber, to re-take her rightful position as co-ruler of Equestria.

Her hopes to connect with her subjects fading, Luna finds a growing jealousy festering within herself as she fails to accept the past and make amends with her sister.

No matter the case, a goddess must never show her sorrow.
