As Chrysalis holds her wife one night, Twilight just can't seem to doze off. The semi-newlyweds have cuddled their way into dreams many times but tonight, Twilight finds herself unable to rest. The alicorn dwells on a mare who held her like this before, when she was only a filly, chasing away the nightmares when her parents weren't around. She can still remember her sweet, sad singing- but what was that tune again...?

After failing to retrieve the Elements of Harmony, Chrysalis decided to revive the clones that she created. She doesn't understand why she did this, but now she has to deal with the consequences of keeping a bunch of evil, immature, backstabbing and annoying clones around.

Thankfully, she might just have a solution.

Change... It always happened, no matter what anyone or anything tried to do about it, for good or bad change was a given. Still... Chrysalis had almost managed to change the fate of her hive to her whims, she had stood at the cusp of greatness and failed to grasp it.
Instead the Queen of Changelings had suffered a catastrophic blow.
She and her brood were blasted far away into the desolate badlands.
She had failed to change just as her mother before her...

But change did not play favorites. And Chrysalis still had a part to play.

As she lay broken and beaten within an inch of her life fighting for what little of it she had left, something in the sky shook in agony and shock, as an entity not meant for this world crashed into it. Something very old and alien. Something kind and wise. Something terrible and awe inspiring.
Something blue and something changed...

And the universe would never be the same...

Chrysalis has been inexplicably spared the wrath of Discord and the Princesses, although frankly, she'd really rather have preferred the stone! Now burdened with an awful, dreadful, wicked curse that... gah, fills her with love and joy any time she tries to think a vengeful thought! And worse! Now she's been roped into pretending to be Applejack of all ponies on some errand to the middle of nowhere with a filly named Diamond Tiara and some lovely wretched mare named Cherry Jubilee.

Not that she'll fail at all in this. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Plus, it beats getting lost in the woods in winter.

Princess Celestia needs a break. After a thousand years of non-stop hard work with no break, Celestia decides that she needs one. Now. Of course, a Princess can't have breaks, so she goes to Queen Chrysalis for help.

Beyond the mirror of opposite-Equestria, Thorax is tyrannical and bloodthirsty. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the hive when he decides to crown himself king.
