Friendship is complicated. At least, Adagio thinks so. Adagio's only friend at the university she's attending is a previous enemy of hers. Sunset Shimmer and Adagio have become good friends in their time at university, but Sunset's relationship with her boyfriend keeps her from spending time with Adagio as much as they would like. However, one night, this all changes. Sunset's world falls down in front of Adagio's eyes and she's the only one who can help her friend. Twilight always thought that being able to send the Princess her letters instantaneously through Spike's fire breath was the best thing in the world. Instant correspondence with her mentor and secret crush could never be a bad thing, right? Unfortunately, Twilight has a habit of writing her secrets down on flammable materials. Now her secret's out, so what's a panicky unicorn to do? Panic, obviously!

The Gala was fun. Sure, there was a cake to the face, her best dress ruined, an entire night that was brought to an end by a stampede of terrified animals, but it was at least fun.

Though, admittedly, nothing really quite worked out the way she'd hoped. But Rarity was a strong, capable woman- she could take all of this in stride and still be happy. Just... so much for love and romance.

One night a year, on the Eve of the Summer Sun Celebration, Princess Celestia is sad, at least according to Twilight's observations. She has a plan, a boardgame, and is determined to try to cheer up her mentor.

At the end of the Grand Galloping Gala, Princess Celestia has invited Twilight Sparkle to her personal chambers so that she could tell her a secret that she has kept from her for a very long time. The excited, love struck Twilight Sparkle eagerly awaits the arrival of her mentor and the confession that she felt was appropriate to make in such an intimate setting. The secret that is revealed is not at all what Twilight was expecting.

Hearts and Hooves Day fast approaches. For Twilight, her friends are shocked to learn she's never had a date. For Celestia, Luna reminds her that she's not had a date in, well, a time period she would rather not get in to. Luna conspires to push the two princesses together. Will a so-called "practice date" turn into something more?

Now with a sneaky little interquel in the form of Celestia Wants To Do Naughty Things To Twilight Sparkle. A mature treat for those who like that!

Being an alicorn is wonderful... except when it isn't. There are plenty of things that put a damper on limitless vistas of possibility afforded by such a long life: Court, mortal needs and expectations, the occasional decade of ennui.

And the dreams, of course. Agelessness comes with its own special kind of dreaming. Celestia finds that her own "Inner Court" is a bit too literal, and it--and she--are troubled at the prospect of a near-immortal Twilight Sparkle.

If only she could articulate exactly why that was.

Part of the Monophysite Quartet, which also includes Celestia Isn't Real, Have You Considered My Servant, Twilight?, and The Esoteric Rites of Darkness. All four stories have a common origin point in an old story idea I called "Monophysite" and touch on who or what Celestia really is in some way. They are otherwise unrelated.

It's taken months to get to this moment. Months of planning, testing, and tearing her mane out. This is one time she can't afford to fail.

Today is the day. It's cold, her nose is runny, and she's scared out of her wits, but she's finally going to do it. She's finally going to tell the Princess how she feels.

But when a new love in the form of an old student is presented can Celestia let go of her sad past and take hold of a happier future?

And will the events happening around her be enough to make her realize that happiness has always been within her grasp.
