This story is a sequel to Dexter's Lab: Equestria

He was so sure Nightmare Moon wasn't real. He was so sure all the stories about Nightmare Moon were merely fabrications meant to induce fear in the ponies of Equestria, and insure their loyalty to the alicorns upon the throne. In fact, he was so sure Nightmare Moon didn't exist, he built a time machine to go back 1000 years and prove it.

Needless to say, this time-travelling colt genius bit off more than he could chew.

Now the 8-yr-old must survive the chaos of Nightmare Moon's uprising, forging unexpected alliances while learning to trust in the word of others. But unfortunately for him, Nightmare Moon isn't the only surprise in store for this colt.

This fic is a side-story to Dexter's Lab: Equestria. As requested by you readers, this story will be expand upon darker themes surrounding Luna's original descent into Nightmare Moon and the following events. - But expect a twist or two. This story was made separate to Dexter's Lab: Equestria because of it's darker themes and atmosphere. Reading of Dexter's Lab: Equestria (to chapter 11) is not required to enjoy this story, however it is strongly recommended as it will explain a lot (especially if you've never seen the Dexter's Lab TV show.)

Twilight Sparkle broke time when she got her cutie mark. Now Twilight and Sparkle are sisters from another time. Twilight is hailed as the potentially greatest light magician of all time, and already has a reputation as a hero by the time she goes to Ponyville. This isn't her story, not primarily.

Sparkle is an orphan - her dark magic killed her parents. She lives with her brother in Canterlot's industrial sector because they can't afford anything better. She can't leave either. She's a natural dark mage; while Sparkle won't go mad like Sombra, her reputation is hardly any better. Worse, the law doesn't see her as a good pony.

The fact that the dead don't stay dead around her, or that Thorn - Spike's double - is an undead, soul-eating abomination, are other matters altogether.

(Also has some Slice-of-Life, but fimfiction tags won't let me put it with Adventure.)

But when something goes wrong with casting, Twilight finds herself turned into a Draconequus and unable to control her new chaos magic. They know the tales of the three pony tribes and how their strife brought the Windigoes upon them, and how the Fires of Friendship saved them from their frozen fates. For countless generations the tale has been told, but how has it changed over those years?

Or is any of it true in the first place?

In my time I've seen a Human give a filly pounds upon pounds of gold, and the same one turn greedy ponies into gold. The only one I ever have seen 'face-to-face' was in my earlier years, he helped me repair my wagon when it broke down in Everfree Forest, by fix I mean a whole new one appeared not ten feet away, and the only thing the Human asked for in return was a spindle....
